One-Nil for the birds. 😂

MissConductUS · 20/05/2025 20:47

Math, our warm weather has departed too. Does your Dcat go outside or is he or she indoors only? We don't let ours out. They do get a lot of time on the deck if the weather is nice.

Hilda, my bird feeder, which is in so many of my kitchen pictures, is also squirrel proof, and they do hate it. Most of them have given up, but once in a while one tries it on again, only to give up in frustration.

I don't have a hummingbird feeder, but do see them coming around on my deck when I have flowers blooming.

We're coming up on DD's one year wedding anniversary. I can't believe it's been a year.

It was sunny but cool today, so not too many turtles out.

Had a waste of a morning today 😕.

A lady was supposed to come at 10 AM for an ID check on D's and me for his PIP stuff.
As we put the claim in during lockdown they didn't do any face to face or home visits .

So 5 years later they are getting around to them !

Originally she said 10-12 but I said I needed a bit of a smaller bracket .

So she said she would come at 10 .
I said fine .

She only phoned me on Friday late to organise this .

She wanted yesterday but I said no as I couldn't do it.

Well she didn't turn up 😡.

ds was twitching, not able to settle while waiting..and to be fair so was I !

You just never know when to go to the toilet 😀😀😂..

I phoned at 11.45 .

She had forgotten to write it down 😡😡😡😤..

She wanted to come tomorrow...
Nooo ...some of us are not available 24/7 .

So she is coming next week .

Still ...
At least the kitchen is spotless now 😂😂😂...

I bought a new thing to clean the kitchen floor with .

It is the spray mop thing .

I only got the cheeper version and 2nd hand as in box is another damaged so it only cost me £10.49 .

But it is really handy for just freshening up the floor of an evening instead of having to get a big mop and bucket out.

Good for toilet and bathroom.

By the way...do have much contact /dealings DD 's in - laws since the wedding !!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/05/2025 22:47

Oh, yes! How did it all go down with the PiL??? Nosy neighbours here want to know ! 🤓 Miss.
And, Hello Turtles! 😁

Bizzey, I tend to do a tidy when I am expecting people as well. 😂

Had Havoc to an activity this morning. We were early so had a nice neighbourhood walk beforehand. Stopped got bagels, challah, a b&w cookie and a sugar cookie, smoked salmon and cream cheese on the way home.
Guess what I made and ate two of? 😋

Had dc out for a nice walk around an urban lake, went to playground, started raining, but then 🌈
Got home, hot bath for all, then eggs with asparagus and avocado on toasted challah. 😋
And, shared the last piece of almond pound cake with raspberries and vanilla froyo. Double 😋

Meant to add a couple of pics from last night's walk. People often tend to the grass area in front of their homes between the sidewalk and road, which is city property. It makes neighbourhoods very quaint. 😊

It is if it is not used for parking your van! My |Aunt's road was particularly bad for that!

MissConductUS · 21/05/2025 14:17

My peonies are blooming! The two black cat sculptures were a Mother's Day gift from DS. We had two black cats when he was growing up.

I planted them when we moved in in 2003.

Love the double rainbow, Havoc!

I have done the household accounts for the year and we are spending less - not surprising since I lost my job. Also planning for the holiday in June and plugging away at job applications.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/05/2025 17:19

Myrtle, the rainbow lasted a very long time, too!!
Miss, I love peonies.

Umanresources · 21/05/2025 17:54

Miss your peonies are gorgeous.I had some lovely peonies in a pot in the back garden but I’m not sure what happened to them!

Havoc My mint julep cups arrived today. I’ve just got lemonade in them today. Tomorrow I might have a go at making my gin julep.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/05/2025 18:07

Oh Uman that's great! A very fun day! Do you have any mint for your lemonade? It's quite lovely to pop a sprig into it. I'll be waiting for your gin cocktail news.
The Preakness was last Saturday and it was a fantastic race. I didn't get things together in time to make proper snacks and mock-tales, but the Belmont is June 7 and I'm planning on getting into the New York spirit for that. We should do a virtual international party on our thread... 🤔😀🤗

The Belmont Jewel is the official drink.

My back pain has got me down too much 😢.

I have booked an appointment with a Chiropractor later on .

Bit worried that they had an appointment 😟..
But she said they always keep this time slot for emergencies 🤷‍♀️.

Fingers crossed.

Don't know anything about this place but prices seem to be the same as everywhere else 🤞🤞!

I need the GP on board to get the medication if needed ...
But I think I am beyond a few core exercises that he has told me to do !!

mathanxiety · 22/05/2025 17:43

Dcat is indoors only, MissC. I live on a main street and she would end up as roadkill. We also have coyotes rambling around, and lots of hawks. Thanks to last year's cicadas and a fairly mild winter, the bunny and squirrel populations are larger than normal, and this has attracted the notice of the birds of prey. But they're always a danger to cats regardless.

Your peonies look lovely! I haven't seen any blooming yet around here. We seem to be stuck in a cool weather pattern. It's often the case in spring thanks to the Lake.

bizzey very frustrating to wait and have a no-show. Hoping you can feel some improvement after the chiropractor.

havoc fantastic rainbows!

I was awoken far too early this morning by the chirping of one of the smoke detectors. I got up and removed the offending battery, then got back into bed but couldn't fall back to sleep. Feeling a little sluggish now but must soldier on. I think I'll need a mug of tea before the end of the afternoon.

bizzey · 22/05/2025 19:35

I am home .

Wondering if anyone else believes in the power of ..well it was ment to be !

I need my back better before our holiday to Italy ..

I managed to get an appointment today at last minute...

Chiropractor was Italian !
And has given me the name of the best pizzeria in Venice !!
😂😂...

I mean ..
Why are the chances 😮.

And the lovely Canadian receptionist has Italian parents ..

It is like fate has aligned the planet for me ...

Unfortunately...they did not provide the money tree to go with it 😟..

But ..🤷‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/05/2025 22:04

Bizzey, what caused your back pain? I think I posted before, but I get TPI for my pain.

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/17582-trigger-point-injection

Math, very smart to keep kitty indoors. It seems more common here than the UK/Europe. 🤔

Just having a decaf latte. Foamed the milk perfectly. Need to buy some regular coffee, though, or I won't survive mornings.

Trigger Point Injections (TPI): What They Are & Procedure

A trigger point injection (TPI) can help relieve myofascial pain, which is usually caused by a "knot" in your muscle (trigger point). TPIs are generally safe.

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/17582-trigger-point-injection

bizzey · 23/05/2025 00:37

@Mumtobabyhavoc ..I do wish those injections were more readily available to us !

My dad used to have them in a regular appointment for his RA .

Doubt they will give them to me .
But all I have said was ..
I need an injection !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/05/2025 07:05

Bizzey, It looks like you can pay privately, but damn expensive from what I can see. I get it for free from a GP pain specialist, but I believe some physios do it, dry needling at least, for a cost. Luckily, it's covered here in BC if done by a GP. I hope you get to the root of your issue and find relief soon.

sueelleker · 23/05/2025 08:46

Mumtobabyhavoc ; Is dry needling the same as acupuncture? My chiropractor does that to help with the shoulder I dislocated last year.

Deathraystare · 23/05/2025 15:13

@MissConductUS

OOh I love Peonies!

IN UK I used to buy them from Marks & Spencer. The one I got was "Bowl of Beauty" A pink stunner. Of course that was when I had a garden (sob!).

Deathraystare · 23/05/2025 15:17

Met with my friends last night (the book club ones) to see a free theatre production. Very good. It is also a book apparently. Marriage Material which is about the life of a family of Sikhs. Beforehand we went to Farmer J's for food which is where you can get cold bowls of salad or hot "Trays" of food. A percentage of money goes to farmers in Africa.

Had a delicious bow with salmon, avocado, red cabbage and other stuff. Also had a pink lemonade with herbs in it. Absolutely delish. I plan to go there tomorrow as well!!

MissConductUS · 23/05/2025 15:45

Math I'm glad your Dcat is indoors only. They're so much safer that way. We don't have many hawks here, but we have lots of owls. I hate it when the smoke detectors chirp like that. And it always happens in the middle of the night.

Bizzey, the injections your dad had for RA were more likely cortisone injections. I've had a few of those.

Deathray, I love peonies too! I wish I had planted more of them when we moved in.

The town arborist came out to look at the dead/dying oak tree yesterday. He said it's on county land, not town land. DH is trying to get someone from the county parks department to look at it.

The flowers on the deck are doing well considering how cloudy and chilly it's been. It's been raining on and off all week. My new zinnias are coming nicely. I used potting soil with a fertilizer already added in that planter.

Monday is a holiday here - Memorial Day.

@sueelleker acupuncture follows meridians along the body with certain areas responsible for certain functions. Dry needling focuses on the releasing actual trigger points, the knots, themselves. Trigger point therapy involves the use of freezing (lidocaine) and steroids to reduce pain and inflammation as well which us why a GP does it. Dry needling is trigger point without the drugs. Qualified physios can do it here. In both the needles are placed into the knots to release them.
