Someone dropped out of a cricket team and my foster son got picked to play cricket in his place tomorrow. First game of the season.

mathanxiety · 19/04/2025 00:14

Baby turtles !!

We're having the kind of day that precedes a massive thunderstorm - unseasonably warm and humid and cloudy, with a lot of wind.

DD and I are heading off to the church tonight for Good Friday ceremonies and trying to figure out what to wear as the heavens are supposed to open while we're there.

We bought our Easter groceries and managed to find space for them in the freezer and fridge.

They dug up the hole in the street that they dug amd filled a few weeks ago. There were lots men in hi viz involved in the dig and the refilling. I think they're going to return to the hole after Easter as they filled it roughly with dirt, with no effort made to repave it. There are large traffic barricades with winking lights to keep cars from driving into it but I've still seen a few near misses.

MyrtleLion · 19/04/2025 10:36

DH is roasting lamb with garlic. The house smells of heaven!

He also bought me an Easter egg for the very first time (Lindt Dark chocolate and truffles). DSD has secured a part time job so we had prosecco last night to celebrate and he brought out Easter eggs for everyone. He has Twirl, she has peppermint aero.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/04/2025 11:34

Awake here since 1:15am and it's now almost 3:30am. 😔
Baby has a cold which was why I woke up and then started scrolling and checking email, read one re Havoc's sport causing a two hour trip down the rabbit hole. Have now set alarm for 7 and am going to try and get back to sleep. There's a wind storm atm. I can hear a lot of blowing. 🌬️

MissConductUS · 19/04/2025 18:47

Baby turtles !!

I had no idea that the turtle picture was going to be such a hit! I'll be on the lookout for more as spring arrives. Math, you seem to live in an area with perpetual road work.

Mytrle, I'm envious of your roasting lamb smell. DH has potatoes au gratin in the oven, but they don't smell like much. I've taken the shrimp out of the freezer to defrost for tomorrow.

Havoc, what sport does little Havoc play? You mentioned an alpha male coach earlier, which made me think of Rugby.

It's quite warm here today, but cloudy.

DD has gotten a notice of jury duty delinquency in the mail. She got called for jury duty here about a month ago, and I emailed her the notice, so I assumed she had notified them that she has moved out of state. I hope she gets this sorted before it turns serious.

He had a great game and got 2 wickets. Very pleased with himself.

Just finished putting the dc's Easter baskets together with choc and toys and made up little bundles with a few chocolates in coloured tissue paper tied with ribbon. My plan is a little trail of choc eggs/bundles from bedroom to baskets in living room for dc to wake up to, then sneak out after breakfast to put the remaining bundles in the garden and say, Oh, I just thought of something! Why don't we check the garden and see if the EB left any more treats?! 🐰😊🤞

bizzey · 20/04/2025 00:32

Ohh @caringcarer how wonderful for your ds .

@Mumtobabyhavoc ...I just don't know how you have the energy sometimes !! 🐇🐇🐇🐣🐤🐥🐰!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/04/2025 08:31

Happy Easter UK friends! 🐰

I hope everyone has some good food and a lovely day today. 😊

It was raining pretty badly around 9pm, so my plan to put some treats from EB in the garden is off. I've spent about an hour and a half vacuuming, then putting the dc's Easter baskets out and placing little bundles of chocolates and chocolate eggs here and there inside for them to find. I placed a chocolate egg and a pair of bunny ears for each by the bedroom door and new plan 💡 is to say, Oh! EB has been here and wants you to wear bunny ears to help you find some treats!
I also put together a little gift bag for a friend coming by to join us for dinner.
Now back in bed and already thinking about the latte I'll make in about 7 hours... night night. 🥱

DandyDandylion · 20/04/2025 09:33

Slightly different Easter this morning as now ds is 16 he asked if he could be the Easter bunny and have me join dd in the hunt. So I got packed off to bed early and he apparently had great fun hiding eggs.
I thought dd was getting a bit old for it all and she has been laying in bed till gone 9am all holiday. But no, I was woken up early to hunt eggs with her. I’m sure he will still eat his share.
Happy Easter everyone.

MissConductUS · 20/04/2025 16:48

Happy Easter to one and all. It's a lovely spring day in New York. I went to the early service at church (9:00) and we're preparing to go to my brother's house for the day. It's about a 40 minute drive and north of us, so a bit more rural and a lovely trip through the mountains.

We're bringing shrimp with cocktail sauce and fresh lemons, brie cheese and French bread rounds, sourdough bread, blueberry crumb cake with whipped cream and potatoes au gratin. I made the cake last night and I'll bring the heavy cream with me and whip it at my brother's house. One of my nephews will be joining us.

Hi, @DandyDandylion that sounds so lovely!
Miss, your dinner sounds like it will be amazing!

Baby was the first one awake and saw bunny ears and chocolate and got really excited and was pointing and motioning for me to look. 😍 The discovery of treats down the hall, into the living room and play area went over well. 😅 Breakfast was blueberry pancakes with more blueberries, strawberries and sliced banana on the side, some whipped cream with a bit of sugar and vanilla and, of course, maple syrup. 🇨🇦 I was on my 2nd latte by that point! 😂 I made simple bellinis for my mum and I, just peach-mango juice with a touch of sparkling on top. In acrylic tumblers. 😣🤫 Haven't used good glasses/the gorgeous champagne flutes that I love in a few years for obvious reasons. 👼👼 (refer to my user name) I think my pieces aren't even replaceable now! 😱 😢
... now I've checked again and googled and I might find them on Etsy/Ebay/Replacements and are still expensive. 😫 They're the Waterford snowflake ones, coloured, a new one was released each year, I missed '17 lilac I think it was, and haven't purchased since. Buying the whole set at once was $$$$$ and it was nice to get a lovely glass each Christmas. Anyway, ... 🥱

Happy Easter to all celebrating!
We are having a chilly and drippy day here. I'm sure many an egg hunt took place in muddy conditions.

DD and I went to Mass and just about squeezed into a pew. The church was jam packed - about 1500 of a congregation, with lots of people standing and extra folding chairs everywhere they could be placed.

We're having a slow roasted shoulder of pork that I roasted yesterday along with potato gratin, asparagus, and green beans.

Umanresources · 21/04/2025 11:57

We had a lovely Easter Sunday. DD and I hunted for Sherlock Holmes, rather than eggs, although we all bought each other eggs as well! One of my friends used to say that when her sons were small they thought that Easter eggs were flat on one side, as she used to eat the back half of them herself! 😐 @MyrtleLion did you manage to play a game over the holiday?

OH made a Thomasins Myers recipe of smashed Jersey Royals with wild garlic stuffed chicken breast. We had green vegetables rather than a watercress salad, as Ocado had none of that. DD and I didn't manage to eat it all. I think we should have had half a breast each, it was incredibly filling but very delicious.
Rainy day today, DD is on her way to Lisbon, to stay with her brother and his family for just over a week. OH and I may go somewhere for a change of scenery for me. I've not been anywhere exciting since before the pandemic, apart from hospital, doctors or opticians.

Uman, meal sounds and looks delicious. What a nice day it was! I hope you do go for a nice local trip! It ca be so refreshing. 😀

The weather cleared up yesterday so dc and I got outside for a bit of exploring and play which was very nice. I began dinner prep around 3 and slowly cooking after 4. Friend arrived just after 5.
We had salmon and prawns baked with pesto; pan-fried lamb chops finished under the broiler with feta and sun-dried tomatoes, roasted potatoes with rosemary, roasted garlic asparagus and boiled corn on the cob.
Dessert was almond coffee cake with whipped cream and strawberries. I was so happy dc ate a bit of everything. Havoc had an impressive amount of chocolate, so I was especially happy a proper dinner was eaten and I kept pushing water to prevent tummy issues and it seemed to work. 😅

Easter Monday here, still a holiday for many, and I'm planning on colouring eggs with dc as we never managed that on Saturday for Sunday's breakfast, so we'll do that this morning.

I completely forgot! Ordered now to arrive tomorrow. DH has no accounts to work on yet and I'm unemployed so we can do it tomorrow.

So sad, but lovely that he managed to celebrate Easter. RIP 😔❤️

DandyDandylion · 21/04/2025 19:06

I imagine there will be lots of people in Rome for Easter who will now also be able to pay their respects. It feels quite apt to go after the main day but during the Easter period.
The forecast here was awful but we managed a walk between showers. We just got home and it turned into a thunder and lightning storm. Yesterday was glorious so we drove over to Baka lake. Had a walk up into the hills amongst the baby lambs. Then sat with lunch watching all the day trippers falling off their hired paddle boards.

Deathraystare · 21/04/2025 19:17

@MyrtleLion

Sorry to hear about not getting the job. I reckon there will be a better one on the horizon!

It sounds like a number of you had a good easter. I don't really celebrate as there is onl me. I was going to get a couple of easter eggs but forgot but did buy 2 Cadbury creme eggs and had them on the Saturday! A few of us at work realised the Big Sainsbury's was not open on Sunday (Duh!) so I had to get stuff from the tiny Tesco down the road. I nearly went to see if the launderette was open but went today. Unfortunately everyone plus his dog was in there (well, not literally) and I was worried about the time as I could not get to wash stuff straight away and I had to work an hour earlier than normal. So I will go down tomorrow instead after my work morning.

I seem to have a problem at the moment with constipation (TMI I know!). I will have to pop to the chemist tomorrow. I didn't used to have a problem but now when I do I remember my Mum who always had problems (and died of bowel cancer). I must get more fibre down myself. In particular I think eat more apples. I often forget to do this. I am a bit stuck at the moment with food as relying on microwave as do not have cooker. I need to up the vegs too. For a pescitarean I have a crap diet at the moment. Still trying to find accommodation though.

I was remembering my Ukrainian firned over Easter and how she loved Easter more than Christmas (I think the Poles and Russians do too). Her family used to paint eggs.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/04/2025 21:03

Dandy, I love a good thunderstorm. 🌩️

Must sign off on taxes today, 🙄 so heading to accountant after a quick lunch.
Had a quick and successful shop at Winners this morning: next size shoes for baby (likely mid-summer), sports item for Havoc, a nice large coffee mug for me (I'm finally admitting I want large) 😂, new exercise bands, a hair dryer (first in years/if you have curly hair you know); hand cream to add to a gift bag, Tupperware (!) bowls w lids and two pairs of sun glasses for baby. All for under $200! It was a very good shop. 🤓

Do you have anything like this in the UK?

www.winners.ca/en/how

MissConductUS · 23/04/2025 00:33

Dandy, I struggle with getting enough fiber too. I try to eat some fresh fruit everyday and also take fiber capsules.

Havoc, Winners looks fab. The closest thing we have would be TJ Maxx.

I received the first batch of resumes to review for my replacement when I retire. I’m not planning on going until September, but my boss is worried about how long it might take to find someone.

When we went to my brothers house for Easter I noticed that he had the exact same LVP flooring in his kitchen as we put in when we remodeled ours.

The sun was out, and so were the turtles. Look at the baby!

Miss, they're affiliated. The loyalty card is TJMaxx.

mathanxiety · 23/04/2025 03:55

Lovely weather here today. The trees are really starting to turn green and there are lots of blossoming trees. Sadly, there's also a good deal of pollen, but we're well stocked with antihistamines.

HildaTablet · 23/04/2025 11:08

We have TJ Maxx here but it’s called TK Maxx for obscure reasons I don’t quite understand. DH is utterly in thrall to it. He seems to find all sorts of amazing menswear bargains, particularly jackets and trousers - it’s less good for womenswear ime but I’ve certainly had some excellent homewear bargains from there.

Unfortunately the range and quality has plummeted since Brexit, in my view. The shoe selection in particular is now dismal.
