How much a month do you spend on alcohol/cigs/vaping

I was just reading another thread of someone asking how much per month people spend on take aways.
I am ashamed to say I spend a fair amount per month on them. I really want to cut back, but justify it to myself by saying I don’t drink/ smoke/ or even go out very often, so don’t buy new clothes/ don’t get my nails done. The only thing I have to keep me going is a take away a couple of times a week, which is my “wind down” time. Maybe I’m still out spending what people do on the things I’ve mentioned though and it’s sort of a scape goat analogy, to justify my take away spending. So would be interesting to see how much people do spend on the above.

£0, but I drank and smoked before I had children.

Verv · 17/02/2025 14:06

I spend a stupid amount on smoking because its a stupid habit.
I can guarantee its more than you spend on takeaways so dont worry about it if its your only vice.

Nothing.

Sassybooklover · 17/02/2025 14:17

Never smoked. Husband and I have a bottle of wine between us on a Friday night. We either go out for lunch with our son or have a takeaway once a week, usually on a Saturday. I do have an eyebrow shape once per month and hair cut every 6-8 weeks, highlights 3 times per year and nails usually 2-3 times per year. I'm not particularly high maintenance! I'd like a manicure/pedicure more often, but it's not essential spending. Clothes wise, I usually buy in the sales and I love Vinted or eBay too!

Feelingstrange2 · 17/02/2025 14:20

Never smoked.
Never vaped
Don't drink much and have plenty in stock, from presents etc, so no need to buy but probably we drink £40 worth a month.

Andnowshesatoddler · 17/02/2025 14:21

As a household we probably spend £30 per week on a Saturday night takeaway, possibly another £10 per week or so on a meal deal/chippy type convenience type meal.
We've cut out our coffee shop spending almost completely and only have if we're out for the day now (we used to go for a drive to Starbucks etc as an activity) I'll say £10 per month.
Wow £170 per month 😲 and if I'm honest there's probably bits and bobs I don't notice.

ETA don't smoke or vape and very rarely drink id be surprised if we spend £40 a year on that.

AQuickDeathInTexas · 17/02/2025 14:24

£0, and £0 on takeaways as per the other thread.

cheezncrackers · 17/02/2025 14:25

Takeaways: £0
Alcohol: depends, but probably around £20
Cigarettes: £0
Vaping: £0

QueSyrahSyrah · 17/02/2025 14:26

Bearing in mind we have a baby so we don't currently go out of an evening, I'd say maybe £12-£15 a week on a couple of bottles of wine between me & DH.

We're both ex-smokers but treat ourselves to a vape, just at the weekends when we're having the wine. One £15 vape lasts us weeks between us.

InMyMNEra · 17/02/2025 14:26

I buy a bottle of wine a week. Sometimes it costs £7, other times I’ll splash out and spend 12 Grin

FastFood · 17/02/2025 14:30

Probably around £100 a month. I'm a social smoker, and I generally go out once a week.

Debtfreeme · 17/02/2025 14:31

0 but £174 on a gym/spa membership

sofio · 17/02/2025 14:34

don't smoke or vape and recently gave up
alcohol. When I think that I was spending roughly £35 a week on wine, that's going to be a huge saving! 😁

MummyInTheNecropolis · 17/02/2025 14:43

I spend about £5 per week on vaping and only drink when I go out, so maybe twice a month at around £30 a time. So I guess £80 a month. I don’t have takeaways but do eat out a couple of times a month.

ItWasntMyFault · 17/02/2025 14:44

I don't smoke or vape and don't really drink much either so I guess it would be less than £5 pw

LegoHouse274 · 17/02/2025 14:45

Never smoked or vaped.
DH and I rarely drink alcohol and we are gifted it faster than we drink it. Id say we typically spend only about £50 a year on alcohol for home tbh and even that's more for guests than ourselves.
Eating out and takeaways...maybe £100 a month? We don't do either frequently. Some months it will be a lot less but then if we are on holiday or something it will end up quite a lot more, so I'd say it balances out around that. That's for me, DH and two kids (third is a baby not weaned yet).

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/02/2025 14:45

£0 never smoked and don’t drink anymore (probably 3 drinks a year when out for a dinner).

takeaway wise they are so expensive now I probably get 1-2 a month.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/02/2025 14:48

Zero but I am an ex smoker and the cost was just getting stupid, I'm relieved to have quit but the temptation is real

BunnyLake · 17/02/2025 14:50

A big fat zero on alcohol, cigarettes, vapes. I rarely do takeaways now as there are a very limited choice where I am and I only consider it if I’m on my own for a night, as a treat. I can get my favourite order with a 1.5litre of pepsi and delivery charges for £15.00. I probably get them no more than three or four times a year.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 17/02/2025 14:51

Maybe £20 on a bottle or two of wine

That's it really

I've had to cut out the takeaways as plain can't afford them they're ridiculously expensive

How much do you spend op?

Normallynumb · 17/02/2025 14:58

I've vaped since quitting smoking 5 years ago
£4.50 per week on juice
£4.50 on coils per month
I use a vape mod
I used to spend £50 per week on cigarettes!

bobby81 · 17/02/2025 14:59

Maybe £8 a month for a bottle of wine.
I’ve never smoked or vaped.
Have 1-2 takeaways a month which costs around £30 a time.

Loveanewusername · 17/02/2025 14:59

I would imagine it’s actually more then I think …..

husband is probably more expensive than me , he’s gone out with his family this month and that was about £50 .

we tend to go out for a meal once a week and he will have a pint with his meal .

I might have one but I’m trying to lose weight so I tend to stick to cups of tea !

very very rarely drink at home , although husband tends to buy a bottle of whiskey every other month .

we don’t smoke or vape , but I would imagine that it’s not a complete reach for us to hit £100 a month on it 😬

Normallynumb · 17/02/2025 15:01

No takeaways lunches or meals out
No alcohol
£45 per month on hair cut and colour
£200 on my lovely dog
Clothes second hand on Vinted
