How much a month do you spend on alcohol/cigs/vaping

I was just reading another thread of someone asking how much per month people spend on take aways.
I am ashamed to say I spend a fair amount per month on them. I really want to cut back, but justify it to myself by saying I don’t drink/ smoke/ or even go out very often, so don’t buy new clothes/ don’t get my nails done. The only thing I have to keep me going is a take away a couple of times a week, which is my “wind down” time. Maybe I’m still out spending what people do on the things I’ve mentioned though and it’s sort of a scape goat analogy, to justify my take away spending. So would be interesting to see how much people do spend on the above.

Per week
£5 on wine via Naked Wines. Pay £20 a month
£10 on average on beer/spirits. Some weeks, its none and some weeks its £30
£20 on vapes but need to drop this
£0 cigs/tobacco

AsLivingArrows · 17/02/2025 15:03

I might buy the odd drink at a bar, but otherwise nothing. Maybe £10 - £15 a month on alcohol.

I spend about £10 a week on vaping, sometimes a bit more if I get a couple of disposables. I like it so I've got no intention of quitting.

TerroristToddler · 17/02/2025 15:03

£0 on alcohol (now only drink on special occasions - hate hangovers and don't see the point anymore!)
£0 on vaping/cigs (never smoked)

We're both trying to lose weight so £0 on takeaways since end of Dec. We do tend to pop out for lunch once a week though, so that's about £35 each time.

Moveoverdarlin · 17/02/2025 15:05

I spend £0 on fags, booze and vaping per week. At most would get a take-away twice a month.

GabbySolisX · 17/02/2025 15:07

I am spending a lot more on take aways and can’t justify it anymore by saying I don’t smoke or drink judging by the answers. If I did, it’d clearly be a hell of a lot cheaper than ordering food.

You're not going to get a clear picture on this thread because only frugal people will respond honestly Grin

We have a takeaway (or a "fakeaway", depending on what we fancy) once a fortnight which I think is fine, but I'd be ashamed to admit how much I spend on wine, and I'm too terrified to even find out how much I spend on takeaway coffees!

spagbol252 · 17/02/2025 15:11

Have never smoked.
We maybe have a supermarket dine in meal deal at the weekend, perhaps with a couple of other drinks- but have plenty here from Christmas.
Don't drink in the week- so perhaps £25 a week on alcohol and a meal deal ? Have a night out with my partner once a month ish.
Get my nails done every 3 weeks, hair every 4 weeks, and toes every 6 weeks x

Neededa · 17/02/2025 15:13

If it does make you feel any better, I am a smoker (which I regret massively but have not yet managed to give up despite trying several times) and spend hundreds of pounds a month. I can “afford” it but still hate spending so much.
Non frugal person answering honestly.

PermanentTemporary · 17/02/2025 15:14

Around £30 a month on wine.
Probably around £10 a month on takeaways, based on getting fish and chips every other month.
We spend a lot on actually eating out though - more like £200 a month I should think. And we go on holiday a fair bit. I feel lucky I've always hated smoking, I'd rather do other things with the money.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 17/02/2025 15:14

£0 - never smoked / vaped and had a glass of wine so rarely I just gave it up a couple of years back completely. Takeaways one a week, at about £25 on a Friday, for two.

RaraRachael · 17/02/2025 15:18

We have one takeaway per month as they're so expensive now so that's around £40 for Indian which is the most expensive.
Absolutely nothing on smoking or drinking as I do neither

InMyMNEra · 17/02/2025 15:19

And zero on cigarettes or takeaways

I gave up smoking and takeaways (went on a huge diet and lost 3 stone) nearly 20 years ago, and haven’t really ever eaten takeaway since. I think I could count on one hand the number of times I have

we eat out once a month or so

MounjaroOnMyMind · 17/02/2025 15:21

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/02/2025 14:48

Zero but I am an ex smoker and the cost was just getting stupid, I'm relieved to have quit but the temptation is real

How much have you saved, do you think?

Kkicr · 17/02/2025 15:31

0 of course. But I wonder what's more damaging to your own health. Occasionally drinking or occasionally smoking

Hoppinggreen · 17/02/2025 15:34

I don't smoke, never vaped.
Don't drink much, still working through the Christmas pressies though so maybe £10 a month on average or a bit more if I go out.
Didn't see the takeaways thread but I rarely get one, I can do better myself and often much quicker too

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/02/2025 15:36

@MounjaroOnMyMind

Oh Gosh I couldn't calculate! It's been about two years but the price just escalates - currently £17 I believe it is it wasn't when I stopped Shock

FriendlyWerewolf · 17/02/2025 15:39

Takeaways - probably somewhere between 50-100 every month
Don't smoke or vape
Alcohol - easily 100ish.

Butterfly292828 · 17/02/2025 15:41

Zilch, don’t drink or smoke

Augustus40 · 17/02/2025 15:47

Precisely nil here.

mrsm43s · 17/02/2025 15:48

About a tenner a week on wine.
More if we're going out or if we're hosting a dinner party.

Nothatgingerpirate · 17/02/2025 15:49

None.
Can't cope with both alcohol or cigarettes anymore, after 45.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2025 15:50

AQuickDeathInTexas · 17/02/2025 14:24

£0, and £0 on takeaways as per the other thread.

This. Absolutely nothing.

I relax with a good book, borrowed free from the local library.

fatandtrying · 17/02/2025 15:51

vaping about £10 a month as I get the juices and fil my vape up as disposables are just to expensive, £10 gets 5 juices, I don't drink and we don't have take aways anymore but I do spend about £300 a month on hair and other beauty treatments

edited for very dangerous miss spelling of vaping 😅

BigSilly · 17/02/2025 15:58

Nothing

notacooldad · 17/02/2025 16:00

Vaping and cigs -nothing.
Alcohol most months nothing
