How much a month do you spend on alcohol/cigs/vaping

I was just reading another thread of someone asking how much per month people spend on take aways.
I am ashamed to say I spend a fair amount per month on them. I really want to cut back, but justify it to myself by saying I don’t drink/ smoke/ or even go out very often, so don’t buy new clothes/ don’t get my nails done. The only thing I have to keep me going is a take away a couple of times a week, which is my “wind down” time. Maybe I’m still out spending what people do on the things I’ve mentioned though and it’s sort of a scape goat analogy, to justify my take away spending. So would be interesting to see how much people do spend on the above.

Cigs/vaping, nothing.
Alcohol, I'm not tee-total, but pretty close. Probably about £20 a year, if that.
Have a takeaway about once every six months.

Bit more of a sucker for coffees. Probably 2 or 3 a month.

LaPalmaLlama · 17/02/2025 17:12

Prob about 300 on wine for the two of us including in restaurants/bars where the mark up is pretty steep. I also drink wine at home, whereas DH doesn't really.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/02/2025 17:16

About £15-20/month on a couple of bottle of wine.

Takeaways are a birthday treat, so maybe £50 x 4 times a year

GabbySolisX · 17/02/2025 17:38

I wish I was rural too tbh so I wouldn’t have a choice either! It’s such an easy thing to do, after a long day thinking il hop on uber eats and treat myself. But do feel a lot of shame when I see how much I’ve spent at the end of the month.

appreciate the honest answers! Still think I am the minority though who spends this much on take outs and the money could be better spent.

& I definitely can’t use “I don’t smoke or drink” as a cop out anymore 😂 as this thread has made me come to realise I outspend the ones who do!

About £170 on tobacco and vaping, then probs around £70 on wine, rum & gin (not including if I go out). Spend more on eating out but rarely have takeaways

Pigeonqueen · 17/02/2025 17:49

Nothing.

But we spent around £40-£100 a week on eating out / lunch out and about etc. And I’m addicted to chocolate and eat a whole share bar of Galaxy every single day 🙈🙈 (and have done for as long as I can remember).

Clarice99 · 17/02/2025 17:49

£0 on smoking/vaping. £0 alcohol - teetotal.

Takeaway - not often, probably about two or three times a year. I've never used Uber eats (and never will). The takeaway food is always from the same place, and DH will go and collect it.

NanaPurple · 17/02/2025 17:55

About £5 on vaping a week. Use flavourless (not smelly either). Seriously saves money as I was spending over £10 a day on tobacco. Don't drink alcohol anymore, did enough in my youth. Don't eat out any more after I became very ill after an Indian takeaway. Sounds pretty boring!!

lifeisacat · 17/02/2025 18:01

£0

henlake7 · 17/02/2025 18:09

£0 on cigs/vaping, alcohol or eating out/takeaways.

I spend about £50 a month on kombucha though....that's my tipple of choice with dinner!

Everyst · 17/02/2025 18:12
  1. I am free
Topseyt123 · 17/02/2025 18:12

I rarely drink at all now and have never smoked or vaped. We get a takeaway of fish and chips once a week on a Saturday. So not a huge amount, though chips for the whole family isn't a cheap meal.

My elderly mother was a very heavy smoker for well over 60 years. When helping her do her shopping as her health and mobility declined I realised she was spending around £200 a week on cigarettes, so around £800 per month!!!

She vapes now (and uses nicotine patches) as a serious bout of pneumonia came close to killing her about 3 years ago and something had to give. Her vape supplies are £12 per week. So a very big difference.

Upstartled · 17/02/2025 18:13

A month? About £10 for a bottle of wine.

SallyWD · 17/02/2025 18:15

I probably buy about one bottle of wine every six weeks so that's £5 per month. Are we including drinking outside the house? A few glasses of wine per month when I go out for dinner.

hopsalong · 17/02/2025 18:16

Honestly? Don't smoke or vape (heavy smoker when younger), but I spend about £50 a week on takeaways, and about £100 a week on wine. (We aren't massive drinkers, but we share a bottle of wine 4-5 nights a week and we only like decent wine, so I rarely buy bottles that are under £20.)

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 17/02/2025 18:18

When I used to smoke it was around £25 every 3 days! Bonkers when I think of how much I spent!

We buy 1-2 bottles of wine a week so spend 15-25 pounds.

Take aways are very rare but we do eat out occasionally so 100-200 a month.

My eyebrows, nails and bikini wax are around £100 a month.
My gym and PT is £180 a month.

Epli · 17/02/2025 18:19

Vape/Cigs - £0
Alcohol - I am pregnant now so less, but when I am drinking probably £100-150/month

anonny55 · 17/02/2025 18:22

£0 don't do any of the 3 above. DH on the other hand spends roughly £15 a day on a box of cigarettes!!🫣

anonny55 · 17/02/2025 18:24

Takeaways - around £100
Beauty treatments - £80
Clothes shopping - around £200

madamweb · 17/02/2025 18:29

£0

Never smoked or vaped

I stopped drinking alcohol when pregnant and just never missed it

Both me and DP vape and spend £10 a week each on vape juice.
Neither of us drink alcohol and we will go to the cinema or out for a meal once every 8-10 weeks but we do bloody love a takeaway.
We have one almost every single week.
I’ve also felt ashamed looking on my bank statements seeing how much I spend on food every month.
We’ve started doing a weekly food shop with planned meals and that’s really helped us cut down.
We still probably get a takeaway every week but it’s a maximum of 1 now rather than “maybe 2 or 3”.
The most we’ve spent on a Chinese for just us 2 was £70 😂 it was amazing!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 17/02/2025 18:33

Don't drink, so £0
Don't smoke, £0
Live rurally, so no takeaways (they're cold before you get them home and nobody delivers out here).

Just don't ask me how much I spend on cake though.

FcukTheDay · 17/02/2025 18:37

40 pounds a month on vaping. Down from 16.50 a day on cigarettes! 0 on alcohol and don't really buy takeaways anymore as they was becoming cold and horrible. The quality really slipped where we are.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 17/02/2025 18:53

Don't smoke or vape.

Alcohol, varies. Maybe £10 a week, give or take? Was gifted loads at Xmas so can't see me needing to buy any now till next xmas 😆

rach7979 · 17/02/2025 19:06

Vaping £20 a month
Alcohol £10 every other week
Nails £48 a month
Hair £52 every three months
Takeaways varies- last month £140 because we had two Indians and a Chinese this month zero so far
Clothes buy as and when mix of sales, Vinted and eBay.
