How much a month do you spend on alcohol/cigs/vaping

I was just reading another thread of someone asking how much per month people spend on take aways.
I am ashamed to say I spend a fair amount per month on them. I really want to cut back, but justify it to myself by saying I don’t drink/ smoke/ or even go out very often, so don’t buy new clothes/ don’t get my nails done. The only thing I have to keep me going is a take away a couple of times a week, which is my “wind down” time. Maybe I’m still out spending what people do on the things I’ve mentioned though and it’s sort of a scape goat analogy, to justify my take away spending. So would be interesting to see how much people do spend on the above.

£0

I don’t drink or smoke.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 17/02/2025 16:01

£0 on an average month. About once a year I'll spend about £15 on alcohol.

Lentilweaver · 17/02/2025 16:02

Zero.

LadyKenya · 17/02/2025 16:05

£0. I was never a big drinker, and would buy the odd bottle of wine on a Friday, years ago, but they would never get drunk. I last had a drink when I was on holiday, last year.

mindutopia · 17/02/2025 16:09

£0 but I can spend a good amount on herbal tea. I am currently not permitted to buy anymore. 😬

Before I stopped drinking though, I think I worked out it was something like £375 a month. I’ve supposedly saved about £10,000 since then. Not sure where it’s gone to. Probably on tea. 😂

Nat6999 · 17/02/2025 16:11

I spend £50 a month on juice & coils, I mix juices so 2 bottles last me approx 3 weeks & I change my coil about once a week depending on how fast my juice burns the coil out. I buy premium juices that cost upwards of £10 for 100ml, so after adding 3 nic shots, have 130ml of juice.

Almost one year smoke free, best thing I did and wish I had quite soon, before quitting a packet per week at £16, more if night out. Probably buy ten bottle of wine per month at £7 each. Not out and about as much as I used to be maybe one Saturday out food and drinks at £100. Maybe the pub once a week at 2 x glass of wine £14. Used to get takeaway every Fri but upped my gym classes so felt less inclined to get Chinese, kinda went off of it to so now probably an Indian takeaway once a month and do enjoy it / look forward to it more having it less frequently, £20. Generally tried to a be a lot more frugal in 2024 as was trying to increase my savings. I do have an expensive gym membership though but I'm there a lot.

RoundLid · 17/02/2025 16:18

Alcohol- about £200
Takeaways- Maybe one a fortnight but they are expensive so maybe £200 total a month
Fags and vapes- 0

pearbottomjeans · 17/02/2025 16:19

£0 but hundreds on chocolate and takeaways!

MeanderingGently · 17/02/2025 16:21

Nothing. I don't drink alcohol and I've never smoked.

2ndtimefinances · 17/02/2025 16:22

Restaurant meal alone (inc soft drinks) was £125 (4 adults) BYO place - took own wine/beer £12 (actually 8 adults but split between my partner & his Ex)
Where I live it is more than £7 for a glass of wine when out so if you have 2 nights out you are spending at least £50 even if you switch to soft drinks
No takeaways for me, they just make me feel rubbish & a meal for 2 from Indian or Chinese is now £40 - I buy enough takeaway for my adult DC who is Autistic with Arfid & other conditions.
No vapes/smoking
No beauty stuff apart from haircut - don't even wear makeup
I will have a drink at home 1/2 nights (see above re adult DC, I spend alot of time at home) a week so probably £10 per week maximum

kaos2 · 17/02/2025 16:23

Zero . Thsnk goodness!

sanityisamyth · 17/02/2025 16:27

I often get given bottles of wine or gin. Can't remember the last time I bought a bottle.

Newmumburnout · 17/02/2025 16:35

£0

Plantatreetoday · 17/02/2025 16:38

We never get takeaways
We don’t smoke or vape
We only buy some wine for Christmas and New Year. A few bottles for the table if our sons fancy a glass. Plus one bottle of Aldis own Baileys.

We don’t buy coffees when out as they’re not as good as we can make at home 😁, so if we’re out for the day we have a flask. We also make sandwiches for excursions too ( I think we were poor for so long as students so we have never shaken off the habit )

We generally only eat out for birthdays ……. but not always

Whoarethoseguys · 17/02/2025 16:40

user593 · 17/02/2025 14:06

£0, but I drank and smoked before I had children.

£0

itsgettingweird · 17/02/2025 16:41

Don't drink.

Do they take always other than maybe twice a year?!

Use to smoke.

Now spend £10 a month vaping and just almost down to 0 nicotine so hopefully that'll be nothing soon - not bad from 20 a day 👀

Take flask of coffee with me but go out for coffee once a month with friends. Maybe £10.

Don't really go out - maybe spend £100 a year on cinema, panto etc.

emanresu24 · 17/02/2025 16:42

I don't drink alcohol, smoke or vape, but I do eat out for lunch sometimes and get takeaways and grocery deliveries from Uber so it might be the same as a smoker?

I don't get any beauty treatments, but our pets cost almost £200 a month so maybe that's the same expense as those that do nails, waxing and brows etc?

AdoraBell · 17/02/2025 16:47

For us no vaping or smoking. We only have wine in home with meals but not every day. So usually 1 or 2 bottles of wine per month. About £20 per month.

aspidernamedfluffy · 17/02/2025 16:47

£30pm cigarettes
£0 on alcohol (tee-total)
Around £20pm on takeaways (depending on what I have).
Don't have my nails/waxing or any other beauty treatments and very rarely go out (the last time was the beginning of December, the next time will be in May).

Gymbunny2025 · 17/02/2025 16:48

Debtfreeme · 17/02/2025 14:31

0 but £174 on a gym/spa membership

Ha ha same! Spend a bit more on gym family membership though, maybe I should feel less guilty about it

DH does spend something on beer but I've no idea how much.

Lollzi86 · 17/02/2025 16:48

0 on smoking/vaping or takeaways. But horribly just looked up average on alcohol (I only drink socially I.e not at home) and it’s about 275 a month 😳

AdoraBell · 17/02/2025 16:55

Also, no takeaway as we are rural. Our habit is coffee. Local place only charge us £2 per coffee because we’re regulars. When you to the nearest town we spend about £6 on coffees, for both of us. Luckily we both prefer simple coffee rather than fancy options. We’ve stopped buying cake and pastries because of the price increases.

inchargeofnothing · 17/02/2025 16:56

Nothing on cigarettes or capes as I don't do this. Probably on average a bottle of wine a week or a few glasses or cocktails a week if out so anything between £7-£30. A meal out twice a month and a takeaway 2-3 times a month - £175-300

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 17/02/2025 17:01

£200 on wine.
