Aaand on a lighter note, before I turn in for the night, I wanted to share a little joke (and my jokes are generally atrocious, but heh!).
Leading up to the US election, during a discussion with my DP, he asked me what I thought the prognosis was for the near future....
I replied "The future's shite, the future's orange".

If anyone recalls the old tv ads for Orange phone packages it might, er, ring a bell Grin

Steve Bannon giving a speech at CPAC has just full on and knowingly given a Nazi salute.

We are all in trouble

heldinadream · 21/02/2025 07:21

Just watched the clip of Bannon. Clear as day.
And STILL people saying, nah, not a Nazi salute.
Every day something worse.

Exactly. How can anyone deny it? His facial expression after doing it says he obviously had done so.

BustingBaoBun · 21/02/2025 07:45

When will some republican senators rise up and say no this is not us?

TopPocketFind · 21/02/2025 08:30

Just saw the video, it is a Nazi salute

It absolutely is

CaveMum · 21/02/2025 08:40

Do Bannon and Musk still hate each other? I lose track.

Are they trying to out-do each other with the MAGA crowd?

Its chilling.

BustingBaoBun · 21/02/2025 08:41

Also just seen Musk totally off his tits with a chainsaw on stage. WTAF

Chainsaw gifted to him by the Argentinian president

At least Canada beat the USA 3-2 in the ice hockey match

Zonder · 21/02/2025 08:59

Anyone see BBC Question Time last night? Jan Halpern Hayes defending Trump - more gaslighting.

I thought Bannon and Loomer (?) were anti-Musk too. But I guess they've realised which way the Nazis crowd are going and decided to run to the front of the queue.

I'm also fearful of eugenics being brought in under the banner of "wellbeing" - not sure how they will square that with the anti-abortion hypocrites but I'm sure they will find a way.

Trump may not get the spoils of Ukraine's beautiful earth for his treasure chest.
(Would be a shame karma if this really is the case...)

Most citizens are still not affected by what's happening... yet. Give it a few months and more people will see their lives and bank balances being negatively impacted.

But how many will follow the leader and blame Biden ?

Remember there are a not inconsiderable number of people who swallowed the Tories line that everything was shit because of the Labour government of 2010-2024.

Labour are doing the same now.

The truth is some things are/were shit because of Conservatives/Biden/Labour but some are due to economic crash/covid/Ukraine war/climate change etc.

Looking at it objectively is hard, especially if you have strong party allegiances and the US is very polarised at the moment.

I wonder if the price of eggs etc will start impacting the people's views on Trump, (as for Biden)though I suspect the loyalists will blame the State/Biden/the Europeans/immigrants for it somehow.

Yes. Bannon nominally does. For a brief mad moment ppl were looking to Bannon to be a counterbalance to Musk crazy influence.

Was this the conference where Musk was waving a chainsaw around?

Meanwhile he's vying for Dad of the Year

This, taken from a thread on Metafilter, disturbed me more than I can describe:

"Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is finally in a position to implement his dream goal of sending millions of Americans to "wellness farms".
The Trump administration has long focused on relocating immigrants and American prisoners into domestic and international concentration camps and prisons, but now they are looking to expand it to much wider swath of American citizens with a variety of medical conditions, as well as African American children.

Medical conditions under consideration include:

  • Chronic illness
  • Autism
  • ADHD, and medication including Adderall and Ritalin
  • Asthma
  • Obesity
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Psoriasis
  • Mental illness such as depression and anxiety, and SSRI medication including Prozac and Zoloft

Instead of letting people have drugs that keep them healthy, Kennedy's "solution" looks very much like punishing them for perceived personal failures by putting people into labor camps, which he euphemistically calls "wellness farms." As Mother Jones reported in July, people would be relegated to these "farms," where they would be denied their prescription medications. They would also be barred from having cell phones, computers, or other means to contact the outside world. They would be put to work full-time, presumably for little or no pay, growing organic food. He claims this process would "reparent" supposedly broken people, again framing mental health issues as not a medical issue, but a personal failure."

Dear god.

With a spot of gallows humour, if they start interring people for being obese then there will be more people interred than not!

What ? And face the wrath of MAGA ?

I fear we will have to see the wheel turn first.

Yes, you're right, I was just thinking out loud really. Anyone who shows dissent will be targeted not only by Trump/Musk/Vance but also MAGAts

It's all those "forrin" chickens, with their Bird Flu...they just won't lay those damn republican eggs fast enough...🐥

I tend to think that we are given the illusion of choice with regards to democracy in the west, at least here and in the US.

I am adding this short clip of a comedian from the US (not recent) his message feels very pertinent right now. It is so much more relevant in the current climate......a few bits of naughty language, just so you are aware.
