Shockingly underweight model in TV ad

Has anyone seen the TV ad for Dylon (of all things)? - it features two female models, the first (with afro hair) is wearing a loose top / pant suit so it's hard to tell, but seems pretty thin, but the second, wearing red, is so so thin. Her arms just go in a straight line, no curve of any kind of muscle, she's bordering on skeletal, her face looks gaunt too.

I just saw the ad for the second time - by coincidence I'd just read an article (think it was on BBC news website) about how fashion houses have moved away from 'body positivity' and plus size models, and thin is back. The theory is this is partially influenced by all the Hollywood stars on Ozempic.

This is so unhealthy to put on TV as the kind of female beauty that everyone should aspire to. I really thought we'd moved past it now. Depressing.

Blimey people seem to have forgotten what a healthy weight looks like!

I saw on Facebook an old 80's video of my home town in the 80's and everyone under the age of approx 25 was this slim!

Even I, who grew up in the 80's, was surprised at how slim they all were. The teenagers looked so slim compared to nowadays.

I think nowadays we're so used to seeing overweight people that "normal" has changed.

Another76543 · 09/02/2025 22:19

Looks perfectly healthy to me. We have to remember that around 2 in 3 of the population are overweight or obese, so of course she looks slimmer than the average.

Heathershimmerwinner · 09/02/2025 22:19

People saying the lady in red is a normal weight need to get their eyes tested. She’s seriously underweight. You can see her bones. It’s unhealthy looking. No
wonder young girls have weight issues.

Bingo! That always gets said on MN threads about weight but not usually so quickly!

And the reason for that is because it's absolutely true.

And then of course someone will just mindlessly slap their keypad and come up with the word 'Bingo!' without giving any thought to the fact well over 60% of Brits are overweight or obese 🙄

mitogoshigg · 09/02/2025 22:19

She's no slimmer, in fact probably slightly bigger than my dd who has a bmi of 19, the difference is that this lady is taller so looks thinner

40andlovelife · 09/02/2025 22:20

She looks strong, healthy and is glowing,

Yes she is slim, how a model should be

SereneCapybara · 09/02/2025 22:20

I don't think she looks unhealthy. She is thin - but being thin is not in itself unhealthy (just as being a bit plump isn't.) She doesn't have that hideous starved look of an anorexic model where the elbow bones looked swollen because they were so wide in comparison with the arms. She doesn't have that skeletal face where the jaw bone protrudes because the cheeks are so sunken.

I'd never seen the ad, and might have noticed that she was tall and thin but not unhealthily so.

Gettingslimmer · 09/02/2025 22:21

So op; want to post a picture of yourself so we can decide if you look underweight, or overweight?

what if we find a female model abojt 25 bmi and start a thread about just how fat she is, all her rolls, how it’s “depressing” we need to look at that.or aspire to be that fat.

or do you think it’s only ok if it’s a slim woman.

are you jealous? Make you uncomfortable about your own size?

Blondiney · 09/02/2025 22:21

Willowy

Yes, when folks tell them this healthy woman is underweight. No wonder obesity is on the rise.

I’m a very similar build. Not under weight, normal BMI and I’ve had 2 daughters. Not sure about my baby but my eldest daughter is going to have my build 100%, it’s her genes and out of her control. You do realise comments like this are just as damaging to women?

SecondMrsTanqueray · 09/02/2025 22:22

Shockingly underweight? Come ON. She’s a perfectly normal looking woman.

muggart · 09/02/2025 22:23

It’s pretty hard to tell from the video, I had to slow it down to see her shoulders. I do think she’s skin and bones.

Pretty sure her name is Anja Leuenberger, if you want to look at her instagram. She’s very thin. Absolutely gorgeous though.

My BMI is 20 ish and she’s a hell of a lot thinner than me tbf. She looks great though (but then, she is a model!)

How can you know their bmi from an ad?

op, have you not learnt how much damage you can make by commenting other people’s bodies?

So if she’s taller than your DD she is thinner and her BMI will be lower, probably into the underweight category.

CheeryOtter · 09/02/2025 22:24

I'm a perfectly healthy BMI and my arms look like that. I don't think she looks unhealthy, her height accentuates her slim figure.

She looks healthier than the models in the snag tights adverts

Agreed. I think she looks strong and perfectly healthy. People's ideas are so skewed these days.

Do you seriously think we shouldn't be able to see a person's bones?

Should they all be hidden away behind a thick padding of fat?

You're right in saying 'no wonder young girls have weight issues' if this is what you believe.

It's perfectly healthy to be able to see a persons collarbone, shoulder blades and ribs if (like this woman) they're tall with a low percentage of body fat 🤷‍♂️

Models should be of any size to be honest if we want to feel represented by them. We are not all the same.

I guess you mean this one? I agree.

I've just watched this over twice - NO! It's different on TV, the same model in blue, but the one in red is different - interesting that they seem to have made two versions.

I can't find the TV one online, I wish I could post a screen shot.

Have you seen the health records of these women from snag ads ? How do you know if they’re not healthy ?

I honestly hate posts like this on here, as someone as thin as the woman in red. It was the same when there was a thread about a model and the op presuming she must be a teenager because she was thin. It's just bloody offensive. If people posted about how unhealthy a heavier model looked it wouldn't be acceptable. She doesn't look shockingly underweight at all, she looks naturally thin with long slender limbs, which some people naturally have!

If it’s any consolation, the vast majority of the replies think she looks naturally slender and totally normal

personally I think she is a stunning shape, so if you look like that I’m very jealous!

Many people now are overweight and we define that as normal because it has become the norm. It doesn't mean it's healthy. Young girls don't just have weight issues nowadays because of thin models but more the Kardashian look. In fact I think it's nice to see a woman in this advert who is slim and attractive and doesn't have lip flippers, bum fillers, contouring make up etc...
