Shockingly underweight model in TV ad

Has anyone seen the TV ad for Dylon (of all things)? - it features two female models, the first (with afro hair) is wearing a loose top / pant suit so it's hard to tell, but seems pretty thin, but the second, wearing red, is so so thin. Her arms just go in a straight line, no curve of any kind of muscle, she's bordering on skeletal, her face looks gaunt too.

I just saw the ad for the second time - by coincidence I'd just read an article (think it was on BBC news website) about how fashion houses have moved away from 'body positivity' and plus size models, and thin is back. The theory is this is partially influenced by all the Hollywood stars on Ozempic.

This is so unhealthy to put on TV as the kind of female beauty that everyone should aspire to. I really thought we'd moved past it now. Depressing.

I just watched the ad and she doesn’t look unhealthily thin to me. Her body looks very similar to mine and I’m not underweight just lowest side of healthy BMI range.

shockeditellyou · 09/02/2025 21:41

Both of them look a perfectly healthy weight to me!

The woman in red looks skeletal to me. Can’t tell about the woman with the Afro.

SpringChickenGiblets · 09/02/2025 21:42

Behave. They’re a perfectly normal weight, people have forgotten what a healthy weight is.

AtlasPine · 09/02/2025 21:44

They look fine to me. Nothing wrong with using slimmer models, same as using bigger ones. We need to see all sizes on tv really.

Britneyfan · 09/02/2025 21:46

I definitely agree the woman in red looks worryingly underweight. Think the woman with the Afro is a normal weight although slim, but hard to tell for sure due to her clothes being less revealing.

Ikeameatballs · 09/02/2025 21:46

The woman in red is very slender but doesn’t look unhealthy.

Gloriainextremis · 09/02/2025 21:48

If I've seen that ad once I've seen it fifty times and I'm getting rather fed up of it now.

Surfacelevel · 09/02/2025 21:48

I have to agree with pp's, they look fine to me too

Ddakji · 09/02/2025 21:49

You’re joking. The woman in red is skin and bone and don’t forget the camera puts in weight so she’ll be even thinner in real life. She is skeletal. And yes, I’m perfectly capable of knowing what a healthy weight looks like.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 09/02/2025 21:50

She's slim and strong looking - toned. She moves like a dancer.

MrsPernicious · 09/02/2025 21:50

What is your version of a slim woman? This one has hips, curves and not outstanding collarbones.

Maybe it's just me but she doesn't stand still long enough for me to see her properly anyway

This.

Doggymummar · 09/02/2025 21:51

Not at all skeletal. She looks strong and healthy 💪.

ThePoshUns · 09/02/2025 21:51

She's tall and slim. We've forgotten what that looks like these days.

Meecrowahvey · 09/02/2025 21:53

She looks fine. I think we're just used to fat people on tv all the time now.

Friendproblem123 · 09/02/2025 21:54

They’re both slim, but definitely not skeletal. No doubt someone will start quoting that the average uk size is 16, it always crops up on these threads.
size 16 is hefty. Just because it’s average doesn’t change the fact.

My BMI is 20 ish and she’s a hell of a lot thinner than me tbf. She looks great though (but then, she is a model!)

mummytalking · 09/02/2025 21:55

The woman looks absolutely fine. Nowadays there is a far better representation of all types of sizes in adverts and surely that shouldn't exclude women on the much slimmer side. We wouldn't say in a thread 'don't you think that woman in X advert looks incredibly big with a huge face'. Think you have gone too far and 'skeleton gaunt face' is rather insulting. She's a person too.

soupyspoon · 09/02/2025 21:55

She isnt bony, I tried to pause the ad at various points but its difficult as she is moving very fast but couldnt see bony bits on her, she is just very slim. She is very tall by the looks of it

My beef is that no way will that dylon stuff get colours looking like that again

Bingo! That always gets said on MN threads about weight but not usually so quickly!

soupyspoon · 09/02/2025 21:56

Got a very Katherine Hepburn figure by the looks of it, angular
