Shockingly underweight model in TV ad

Has anyone seen the TV ad for Dylon (of all things)? - it features two female models, the first (with afro hair) is wearing a loose top / pant suit so it's hard to tell, but seems pretty thin, but the second, wearing red, is so so thin. Her arms just go in a straight line, no curve of any kind of muscle, she's bordering on skeletal, her face looks gaunt too.

I just saw the ad for the second time - by coincidence I'd just read an article (think it was on BBC news website) about how fashion houses have moved away from 'body positivity' and plus size models, and thin is back. The theory is this is partially influenced by all the Hollywood stars on Ozempic.

This is so unhealthy to put on TV as the kind of female beauty that everyone should aspire to. I really thought we'd moved past it now. Depressing.

What is your version of a slim woman? This one has hips, curves and not outstanding collarbones.

No this isn't the model I'm talking about. I agree this one looks slim but not necessarily underweight.

It's frustrating that people are commenting based on this, not the TV one.

Have you seen the health records of these women from snag ads ? How do you know if they’re not healthy ?

Have you seen some of their models? Each to their own, I’m all for body positivity but you can’t say it’s not unhealthy to be that over weight

It’s pretty hard to tell from the video, I had to slow it down to see her shoulders. I do think she’s skin and bones.

Pretty sure her name is Anja Leuenberger, if you want to look at her instagram. She’s very thin. Absolutely gorgeous though.

No she’s an actress called Bethany slater.

BunnyLake · 09/02/2025 22:30

She’s moving so fast I can barely tell but she just looks normal thin rather than emaciated thin to me. I used to be that thin naturally. .

You can only know if you’re healthy taking some tests. You can be overweight/ obese and have perfect records, same way for underweight people

It is normal.

Or at least it used to be until over 60% of the population got fat.

RoamingGnome · 09/02/2025 22:31

The model looks totally fine. The effect of Dylon on their clothes looks totally fake though.

Lentilweaver · 09/02/2025 22:31

Agree shes moving so fast you can barely obsess over her!

AnnaL94 · 09/02/2025 22:31

This is the model. Instagram @ anjaleuenberger

IMO she does look more on the unhealthy underweight side.

But this is Mumsnet, where the teeny tinies are celebrated.

EDIT. Screenshots are under review. Won’t let me post images.

Yes you’re supposed to be able to see bones. It’s shocking some people. This poster, thinks they should be covered in fat.

But this is the reality for lots of women who are naturally thin? Why shouldn’t they be celebrated?

Dontlletmedownbruce · 09/02/2025 22:32

She is slim that's for sure. It makes a contrast to the usual overweight women on ads. It's diversity if anything

Kendodd · 09/02/2025 22:32

I don't think she look unhealthily thin, I think she looks great. I wish I was tall and slim like that.

MsCactus · 09/02/2025 22:33

I was underweight when I was a teen and I looked a lot worse than her (BMI 16, was desperate to put on weight but struggled). She actually looks like the low side of healthy weight to me - maybe a 18.5 or so BMI. She looks quite thin, but not unhealthy.

Unhealthy thin is when your hair falls out and your bones jut out horribly everywhere. There's a few celebs that fit this description

Exactly. That’s why we Need women of different sizes as models

and that’s why we shouldn’t comment other people’s bodies.

MaltaMam · 09/02/2025 22:33

Uh, my 16 yo has a BMI of 24.
Is she overweight?

Lentilweaver · 09/02/2025 22:33

Ah yes, acceptable to call slim people teeny tinies but obese women are " real" women.

how dare we , eh? We should be slagging slim women off.

oh wait. Nope.

Agapornis · 09/02/2025 22:34

Dylon reduced their dye range from 54 colours to a mere 17, to produce this?! Urgh.

Neither of the women are unhealthy. You can judge from the breast size that the black woman is perfectly average. The guy doesn't exactly have an average body either under that green t-shirt!

24 is classed as healthy weight, so no?
