How much money would change your life?

This is my fave game to play with DP but he's asleep!

At 39, £500k would change my life significantly. I'd be able to :

•pay mine and my sister's mortgage off

•go to university and retrain as a midwife

•have my teeth straightened and made beautiful

•give us a nice nest egg to sit on

28, to be honest 100k would make a huge impact, I could pay off my debts and have money for a deposit

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 04/02/2025 22:58

I think about £150k. I could pay off the mortgage and not have to work for a year or two.

Lighttodark · 04/02/2025 22:59

300k

sometimesmovingforwards · 04/02/2025 23:00

£1m

poorbuthappy1 · 04/02/2025 23:00

£2k. I could pass my test and buy a cheap car

Meadowfinch · 04/02/2025 23:02

£50k I could retire tomorrow. Have the last couple of things finished on the house, pay ds'last year of school fees, and pay off my mortgage.

Instead, I'll have to work another 18 months.

Badbacklife · 04/02/2025 23:02

30, 300k, could pay off debts, buy a house outright, get a car and have some money left for a decent chunk in savings and a holiday.

overthinkersanonnymus · 04/02/2025 23:03

It's crazy that money that would change our lives, are some peoples actual salaries.

£300k would see me right, nearly perfectly.

dreams

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 04/02/2025 23:06

£250k would pay off my mortgage and give me a year or two off work to have a big adventure.

milkywaygalaxy · 04/02/2025 23:08

500k, we'd be able to pay off debts, buy a house. We'd love another baby but can't afford to rent anywhere bigger and our 2 DD's share a room as it is so it just isn't ever going to happen I don't think.

MabelsBeats · 04/02/2025 23:09

I think £1M might do it. I could give up work I think on that, if invested wisely.

Maybe £1.5M, just to be sure! 😂

Seagullsandclouds · 04/02/2025 23:13

If I could borrow 500k interest free for five and a half years, that would be perfect. I’d happily pay it back at the end.

stresssd · 04/02/2025 23:14

I'd take 600 for the divorce fee

jocktamsonsbairn · 04/02/2025 23:17

£60k to
Pay off mortgage and debt.
Then I could live off my salary.

Probably £500k to really change my life and let me retire. I'm done.

I wish I could send it to you! Been there!

Crispynoodle · 04/02/2025 23:22

Hmmmm well 28k would pay the mortgage off. I recently tracked down an old pension which gave me 15k just enough to do 5 windows, the garden and a bit for savings. Apart from that we need nothing we've completely renovated the house except the bits above. I honestly can't think of why I need more

Overthestar · 04/02/2025 23:24

£1.2 million. I'd buy a nicer house
£5 million. Even nicer house with change to do it up and not work again

In London.

Fouradayistoomuch · 04/02/2025 23:25

500k please. That would allow us to build our extensions so we had plenty of space.

Ooooo tell us your plan? What's happening in 5 years?

£1million! It’s a lot I know. Any amount is lovely, but being able to give up work (my husband too) would be truly life changing. Every month I hope for the big win on the bonds.

HomeworkMonitor · 04/02/2025 23:26

£300k is enough to pay my mortgage off, pump my pension and set me up for a lovely mortgage-free decade to retirement

wobblyweasel · 04/02/2025 23:27

£500k would be a significant amount to change our lives for the better. Pay debts off, buy a small cottage and a car. To completely change our lives about £2/3 million 🤗

PerkyGreenCat · 04/02/2025 23:28

A crazy life changing amount would be £280,000. That would pay off my debts, buy a flat outright, and give me 6 months of wages I could put into savings for emergencies so I'd never be in debt again.

With the money saved on rent, I'd be living like a bloody queen! I'd have have hobbies that aren't free/low cost, I'd go on holiday abroad every year, days out, trips to the theatre.

A less dramatic but still life changing amount would be £30,000.

I’ve just bought some premium bonds, it was all I could afford (£700), but I don’t think it’s enough. When I checked, it said you need loads in to get a decent win. I don’t really understand how it works.
