How much money would change your life?

overthinkersanonnymus · 04/02/2025 22:55

This is my fave game to play with DP but he's asleep!

At 39, £500k would change my life significantly. I'd be able to :

•pay mine and my sister's mortgage off

•go to university and retrain as a midwife

•have my teeth straightened and made beautiful

•give us a nice nest egg to sit on

£250k so I can retire in April (need the ni credit for this year Grin)

Moier · 04/02/2025 23:34

Well l got nearly 4 million pay out.. it's helped me with being left severely disabled in a way l bought a large bungalow and had it adapted ...it's got a pool.. l have a cleaner/ carer.
I helped my daughters with buying them an house etc.
I don't have to worry about money.
I was on benefits etc when l came home from hospital for a good number of years until the court decided how bad my injuries were and if they were long lasting.. until l got my pay out.
But you know what? I'd give it all up for it not to have happened.. for an ex to have not tried to murder me... by throwing me under a moving bus..to not have all the operations... to not be in pain.. to not need a wheelchair.. some health care l pay for.. some l use the NHS.
I give regular to charities.
For over 40 years I'm still in therapy. ( paid by me).

@NormasArse any single bond could be the lucky one. There is a long running premium bond thread if you haven’t yet joined it. Good luck 🤞

£260k would change my life. That is the salary after tax of my friend. He gets that EVERY YEAR. I earn £35k a year before tax

skintoldlady · 04/02/2025 23:35

£10k would be nice as would clear debts, £130k would clear debts, the mortgage and leave slack for a nice holiday or two but back in the real world, a couple of hundred quid for a nice not boring lidl foodshop and a full tank of petrol for the rest of the month.

The pp wanting the 600 quid for the divorce fee - some of the best money I've ever spent.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/02/2025 23:37

I reckon a million. Move to a house that’ll be perfect in retirement would probably cost me £350k taking into account equity etc. in current home, go part-time at work would eat up another £350k to maintain same income between now and retirement, that leaves £300k to top up pension/investments for the future, would retire at 60 rather than later. Have more disposable income pre-retirement to enhance lifestyle (due to no mortgage), as well as more free time now, and would retire with a decent pension pot.

might also spend a few quid on a financial advisor to help me utilise the million to allow me to retire earlier than 60 with a decent lifestyle!

Soonenough · 04/02/2025 23:38

Pointed out that £800 isn't going to cover my needs. I meant £800k😁

I’m so sorry you have been through all that. Of course health is more important than money but hopefully the payout makes life a bit more comfortable for you.

Gingernaut · 04/02/2025 23:38

£500k minimum

£1m if someone twisted my arm

New house, new career, training, pension and something tucked away for rainy days

overthinkersanonnymus · 04/02/2025 23:25

Ooooo tell us your plan? What's happening in 5 years?

Nothing hugely exciting. I’ll be able to access my pensions. I was very diligent, starting a pension at 16, and squirreled lots away, but can’t access it until 57.

My health is bad at the moment, and I could really do with downsizing my job to a less stressful one but can’t until I can access the money.

DrCoconut · 04/02/2025 23:43

I'd like to win a few k just to ease the daily financial stress of single parenthood to be honest. Enough to be a bit of a cash injection and sort things out that need it - decorating, yard etc. £250k would be utterly life changing. I could pay off my mortgage and buy a house for my oldest outright and still have change living here.

Moier · 04/02/2025 23:44

Yes definitely helped ..
Thankyou for your kind words 💐

Such a difficult question to answer. It depends on priorities right now.

£60k would let me live without a mortgage and debt free so I could live off my earnings. However, I still wouldn't have much of a pension and my mortgage is not my biggest outgoing.

There's maybe £20k of work I'd like done on my house, so that would put it to £80k, I'm a single parent trying to support one DC through university and another that hasn't got there yet, so that's maybe another £50k (?).

That wouldn't give me much on my pension, which is pitiful. At the moment, I'll never be able to retire, so being 50, that's maybe another £300k, so possibly £500k if I'm careful with it and don't want to splurge?

What the fuck do these people do for that type of salary?

Im on £30k a year and get shouted at for not putting into a pension. How?! How can I do that every month and be able to live month to month?

Pisses me right off lol.

£5000 would clear debts and enable me to properly start my business.
£200k would be truly life changing and I could be mortgage free and have enough money to replace my car.

ThePolarBearWhoLostHisCrown · 04/02/2025 23:50

£150k would pay off my mortgage so I could afford to live on my salary, plus allow me to replace all my windows, update my kitchen, buy a new car and have a little left over for a rainy day. It may not be life changing but it would give me peace of mind.

Peace of mind is life changing. That's what I'm looking for too with my imaginary money.

30k, I could clear my debt and have much more disposable income to go on a holiday or something. Haven’t been on holiday in a decade.

SnoopySantaPaws · 04/02/2025 23:58

poorbuthappy1 · 04/02/2025 23:00

£2k. I could pass my test and buy a cheap car

With the cost of Insurance, you better double that!!

Badbacklife · 04/02/2025 23:02

30, 300k, could pay off debts, buy a house outright, get a car and have some money left for a decent chunk in savings and a holiday.

You obviously don't live in the south east🤣🤣

Moveoverdarlin · 05/02/2025 00:00

£1 million please.

ToSecretGardensInMyMind · 05/02/2025 00:03

20k would be life changing but I'll take a few million if you're offering
