Labour North West needs looking at - not before time. This is quite a damning article.

For God's sake. Utterly disgusting.

Had chance to read that in peace, now. Vile. How nice of Gwynn to make such a heartfelt non-apology, though. I bet everyone concerned feels so much less distressed by his admission that he has all the empathy of a slug.

DuncinToffee · 10/02/2025 21:12

Vile indeed, glad he got sacked.

Did anyone see the short clip on the news re King Charles out in Cornwall with Sir Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner?
Interesting.

I saw that, was about sustainable housing I think

I saw that, the reporter was waffling on about how the King and Government members being seen together was outrageous (even though it was diarised before the election apparently).

Newsnight was a bit Hmm I'm not sure how VD kept her composure. The badly thought out assisted dying bill is dying, so they are resorting to desperate measures, and, the person they had on to say why it shouldn't pass appeared to have not read the bill, and be drunk. That wasn't really impartial but I understood when I realised it was a reform supporter.

Chris Philp was pathetic and still saying Rwanda was the holy grail- ffs, grow up, move on, it was a shit plan and a big contributing factor to why they lost. Zero growth and reflection from this one.

Quite.

Never fails to astonish me how elected officials are prepared to put the most revolting comments into online groups. How can they not understand that anything they say or commit to 'paper' will be (rightly) scrutinised.
Arrogance or stupidity? Either way it renders them unfit to hold office.

Its a version of Thats Not My Brexit. They can cling to it - despite all the evidence that it was unworkable and costly - because it was never tested.

bombastix · 11/02/2025 09:06

If you want to see why the Conservative Party is doomed all you need to see is the latest interview by Kemi Badenoch where she reveals herself further as an entirely non serious and crude person.

Why the Conservatives elected her I will never know. Her media manner is atrocious. She acts like some "I speak as I find" yokel.

Farage will absolutely mince her.

BIossomtoes · 11/02/2025 09:35

I think the chances of Badenoch leading the Tories into the next election are becoming increasingly remote, she’s achieving precisely nothing - no policies, refusing to do media, incompetent in PMQs. As the leader of the opposition she’s not presenting any opposition at all.

Why do they keep wheeling Tim Montgomery out on Newsnight? Surely to God they could find someone half intelligent and articulate to represent the right?

bombastix · 11/02/2025 09:47

Tim M now works for Reform as their media management. Don't like his manner but ultimately he is the future.

It's pretty obvious that a lot of voters are fed up with Labour and the Conservatives. But the latter seem absolutely terminal. It has to be the Conservative membership because they keep choosing the worst candidate. Why could they not see that Badenoch, "tough" as she may appear, is actually a waste of space?

Dominic Cummings said that about her. Her reputation in the parliamentary party was bad. They did not like her. She was not popular with her cabinet colleagues. She achieved very little from a position of significant responsibility in the last government.

The Conservatives have gone fully ideological. I do not believe a Conservative who cared about competence or delivery would have voted for her. A fool who likes tough language over actual work would.

DuncinToffee · 11/02/2025 09:53

Badenoch is bending the knee to Leon, supporting a doge style approach for the UK

Montgomery admitted last night that Reform's immigration policies are pure nonsense

I am quite happy for the Tories to continue on their death spiral. Their current situation is 100% of their own choosing with the added delicious irony that they were warned incessantly that this would be the price of trying to drink from the cup of Brexit.

They did not choose ... wisely.

I am suspecting all the "Reform-Tory" merger guff is really just powered by desperate Tories who still haven't got the backbone to dump the right wing stance and admit they failed. Because it makes zero sense for Reform who are gathering Tory votes just being Reform to risk associating themselves with the proven loserfest that is the Conservative and Unionist Party of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

But he’s awful! Much as I detest Reform, if they’re really going to make regular appearances on Newsnight why don’t they put up someone credible like Yusuf?

bombastix · 11/02/2025 10:05

Disagree on Yusuf! He is not credible though he is more personable

DuncinToffee · 11/02/2025 10:10

You’re right. None of them are credible.

Elodie09 · 11/02/2025 12:10

I am still trying to fathom how it is that
Nigel Farage pops up on the
news and on TV so frequently. They have 5 MPs.
How many parties has he belonged to now.
I have been reading the article which was in the Guardian a few years back reviewing Michael Crick's book about him.The book was called " One party after another the disruptive life of Nigel Farage."

bombastix · 11/02/2025 12:19

Farage will grow and grow and grow as long both major parties in the UK do not deal with immigration. This is legal immigration. The figures are not discussed.

They need to be. There needs desperately to be a plan to change training and education to support better paid jobs and a visa system to support those that cannot be managed in the next five years. This is the only way the figures will come down and immigration will look like a sensible idea rather than now. Currently we are just underwriting our immediate labour problems with no clear plan. That is not what other countries do. We need to wise up.

I do not care about the performances by the Home Office.

All Farage will need to do at the next election will be to go on about the migration figures. Labour are toast unless they can show a clear plan about migration figures. Reversing most of what the Conservatives did since 2019 would be a good start.
