Neighbour using radio to harass us

I'm going to preface this with that I know he is doing it to annoy us, the context is that we got cats this year and he hates them so much he shot at them with his shot gun. Police were involved and he hasn't shot his gun again (cats have stayed inside mostly and one occasionally goes out at night)

Since I reported him to the police he has put his radio on 8am-7pm every day and varying different levels. This doesn't sound that bad but I can hear it all through the house as he's put the speaker on the brick fireplace.

We live in a very quiet hamlet and you would expect peace and quiet here, it's just so upsetting. I thought it would be a lovely place to live and it's been awful.

I've reported to environmental health and I'm currently doing a diary, police spoke to him about harassment the other day and no change in the noise.

I'm sick to death of it, I was looking at other houses but the children don't want to move again, this was supposed to be our final move.

I actually hate him so much and it's really ridiculous, I know he's a massive misogynist and had bullied the lady next door to me. He has a history. I am going to ask the police again about how much the can do as they have somewhat accepted he is harassing me by doing this, I just feel helpless.

I am going to get someone in to soundproof the kitchen but as it's very bassey I'm not sure it will solve the issue.
Not sure why I'm typing this is just making me so stressed the incident with gun was last June so it's been going on so long.

I've nothing helpful to add but he sounds a bit psychotic.

devastatedagain · 26/01/2025 19:45

How old is he?

I'd be tempted to suggest plugging a drill in and placing it on a joint wall and then going out overnight but I guess thats a bit immature really.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 26/01/2025 19:45

I think he's a danger to women, I'm glad I reported him to the police so he's on their radar, but let's be honest until he shoots me they won't admit he's dangerous

He's just retired from the local council

Have you heard of gabber?

Find a play list online and set it off and leave for the afternoon.

mashingwachine · 26/01/2025 19:49

He has (had?) a gun Shock

Presumably that was dealt with by police. I don't think you will get far trying to have him done for harassment by having his radio on during the day. It's allowed and there is no crime to answer for as you cannot prove someone's reason for having a radio on.

I fucking knew you were gonna say he's retired.

Retired and bored.

Surely discharging a firearm at a cat is an offence? This is not a person that should have a shotgun licence.

Irridescantshimmmer · 26/01/2025 20:05

Your best bet is to make sure, what ever you do next is not going to cause numbnuts to complain to the council about you.

Loud music etc, etc because it will give him ' ammunition to complain about you' which will weaken your case with the local authority, having worked for them the stupid fool should know they can come after him.

He'll be 10 pence short of a shilling so will have lost a few marbles as from what you are saying, he has taken leave of his senses. Don't give him an excuse to drive you into the ground..........So stay positive.

Thank you I appreciate that, my work colleagues and brother were all" I'd have gone round there and punched him by now"

It's just not helpful.

I am maintaining the moral high ground whilst imagining running him over

I think I’d put on R.E.M “everybody hurts” on a loop or Morrissey

2dogsandabudgie · 26/01/2025 20:37

Are you sure it's a shotgun and not an air rifle, because I would have thought that was an offence and the police would have taken that seriously.

Did you actually see him aim and shoot at your cats?

Hey yes it was definitely a shotgun and I've talked to Firearms about him, they were very helpful and told me to report everything to 101, which is why I've reported the harassment.

He didn't hit the cat and lied to the police, and also his mate about what gun it was. So unless he does it again, they're just going to keep an eye on him through me reporting anything.

You need to play some Rammstein - LOUD! Make the floors and walls shake.

Years ago I had a family move in next door to me. Every single one of them had a stereo, so that was 6 stereos in the house. They each thought nothing of playing theirs at the same time as the others, from Elvis, to Jim Reeves to Madonna.

It never stopped. Morning, noon and most of the night. They would eventually fall asleep around 2.30 - 3,00am and silence ensued until around 7am when it would all start again.

It. Was. Insane! no amount of asking nicely or environmental health visits made any difference.

So, on went the Rammstein, at 3am , full volume against the walls. When the mother came to see me with the audacity to complain, I told her that unless they packed it in and behaved in a civilised and neighbourly manner, that this is what they would get, every night.

They stopped.

mashingwachine · 26/01/2025 20:46

He would not be allowed to keep his shotgun OP, had he been using it to try and kill your cat. There are very strict rules about gun ownership.

We had a neighbour who played True, by Spandau Ballet on repeat.

It drove me bonkers.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 26/01/2025 20:49

Well I don't know if he still has it to be honest as they won't share that information with me, perhaps that's why he plays the radio

On bin day, push his bins as far away from his house as possible. That’s the pettiest thing I can think of right now, sorry 🙈🤣
but seriously, I’m sorry your going though this.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 26/01/2025 20:52

There is a river nearby, maybe bin can go for a ride
