Flight radar - storm Eowyn version

As the title says - I am in the red zone and still some flights attempting and some managing to land. Just watched one diverted from Glasgow to MAN. One manage to land at Edinburgh whilst one right behind it looks to be diverted- another flight from Italy due to land in Edinburgh in 2 mins but can't yet find the plane. Wild that these are still scheduled and some still not cancelled throughout the highest forecast winds of the day. Must be very scary being on these planes! My house in Edinburgh already sounds like the roof is about to be lifted off!

One has just managed to take off too (Ryanair again) to Budapest.

It's relatively quiet here in between frequent mammoth gusts so if they time it right I reckon they will get down. Glad I'm not on board though!

No luck. I wonder if they will try again

It actually said arrived at one point so they must have been so close 🙈. Hard to tell where they are now headed!

Newcastle perhaps?

I was watching it - it got to 2000 ft and aborted landing. Assume it's given up now!

HobnobsChoice · 24/01/2025 10:06

Is Ryanair still flying because they don't want to have to give refunds unless they have to?
Wind's picking up a bit at Manchester. There's a live stream and there's a bit of wobble as some planes are descending but it's still fairly calm

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 10:07

Saying arriving in 11 mins so looks like it is to be Newcastle! Not too from home at least.

Cologne!!

Bluelagoondrmr · 24/01/2025 10:07

Edinburgh is diverting to....Cologne!

Bluelagoondrmr · 24/01/2025 10:08

I wonder if anyone has passports.

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 10:08

Oh wait - it's going to Cologne!! 😬 what a shame!

Ryan air make you fly with passports now. Perhaps this is why!

I'd love to know why they picked Cologne. Presumably it's the nearest airport that's not affected by the storm with capacity to take them, but it seems so random.

I hope they get time to spend a day in the (very lovely) city before going to Edinburgh or back to London, but sadly I fear it will be spent hanging around the airport waiting to find out what's going to happen and when.

JamesGetIn · 24/01/2025 10:16

Aw feel for them 😬 so close too. Had practically landed.

user989 · 24/01/2025 10:19

Sorry for my ignorance but why would they not just go back to stansted? Is it just to do with space?

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 10:19

Yes they probably won't allow them out of airside although I do hope they get a nice hotel . And yes I imagine they will get them moving again quicker from there as most uk airports will have huge backlogs from cancelled and diverted flight to deal with!

There are only two hotels actually at the airport and even then you'd have to go through immigration. So it is a good thing Ryanair insist on passports even for internal flights.

There are loads of hotels in the vicinity, but I suppose it depends how much notice you'd get about the departure time.

During a storm last year a lot of flights were diverted to Cologne. It I remember correctly it was Edinburgh flights as well.

Bjorkdidit · 24/01/2025 10:46

FR still says diverted to Cologne, but it's turned again and might be heading back to London!

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 10:49

Yes, it definitely looked to be heading for mainland Europe but they seem to have changed their mind!

It's one of their big hubs. They took a lot of diverted flights there the last time as well.

It's a big airport so lots of capacity and good transport links.

Plus with it being one of their big hubs they've capacity to do lots of shuffling with planes and crew to get people moving again quickly.

Chersfrozenface · 24/01/2025 10:51

Looks like it's heading back to Stansted.
