As the title says - I am in the red zone and still some flights attempting and some managing to land. Just watched one diverted from Glasgow to MAN. One manage to land at Edinburgh whilst one right behind it looks to be diverted- another flight from Italy due to land in Edinburgh in 2 mins but can't yet find the plane. Wild that these are still scheduled and some still not cancelled throughout the highest forecast winds of the day. Must be very scary being on these planes! My house in Edinburgh already sounds like the roof is about to be lifted off!

The flights into MAN are rattling in so fast.

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 08:54

Ryan air flight from Stansted to Edinburgh has just taken off 😬

Glasgow still managing to take off too. Think I'd have headed home rather than board a plane in Glasgow this morning

Thanks for the reminder, I only ever see these flights after the fact. Why the heck is the Amsterdam to New York flight flying into a headwind over central Scotland right now 🙈 you'd think they would fly west further south to avoid the storm for a bit?

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 09:06

Who knows 🙈 also just been a helicopter up looking like landing in to Edinburgh. Cannot imagine how that would feel!

OP posts:
liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 09:09

Actually it's not landed - can now hear it buzzing over near my house!

Just seen a Tel Aviv to Fort Lauderdale flight currently near the UK is being diverted to JFK. Assuming because of the blizzards in Florida. Man I'd be furious with that 2,000km detour!

Moltenpink · 24/01/2025 09:13

I live right by Manchester airport, the wind isn’t too bad here right now.

Username12284949 · 24/01/2025 09:14

I was watching too. Seems to have only been Ryanair flights landing/taking off from Edinburgh? Everything else showing as cancelled. KLM not long took off from Glasgow.

Username12284949 · 24/01/2025 09:16

KLM is showing as cancelled must have been a glitch last time I clicked on it in flight radar it was showing as in the air!

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 09:18

Ryan air pilots must be built different! Watching with interest at the STN - EDI. Must be going for it as it's bypassed Manchester. The gusts do seem to have calmed slightly atm so hopefully it stays that way tip ors safely on the ground.

The helicopter looks to belong to network rail!

I definitely saw that plane in the air a couple of times. It was showing as at 11000 feet. Wonder if it went back?

It's the later flight that is cancelled. This was a delayed earlier flight and it's en route

Bratislava to Edinburgh was diverted a wee while ago to Stanstead.

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 09:25

Oh I assumed that was going to Manchester. Long way to try and get home with public transport all off!

Stansted is a Ryanair base.

Other airlines might well fly passengers on to Edinburgh once the winds die down and a plane and crew are available.

Ryanair, though?

blobby10 · 24/01/2025 09:34

Just had a look at some of the arrival times for the transatlantic flights and they are SO early!! Many are over an hour early Grin

Snapespeare · 24/01/2025 09:34

I was meant to be flying STN to EDI this afternoon with Ryanair. Flight was cancelled late last night. Refund already on its way for the flight and preparing to do battle for parking at Stansted and car hire (have insurance, doubt it will be covered..)

Missing a family birthday - so consider this to be divine intervention and secretly thanking the weather gods that I don't have to sit in a room with my children's father for six hours.

liveforsummer · 24/01/2025 09:35

Stansted to Edinburgh has turned around when nearly there!

Looks like the equivalent of a hand break turn!

Calochortus · 24/01/2025 09:36

Stansted to Edinburgh has turned around, it never even attempted to land.

Maybe just circling actually. They do sometimes hold in that area!

Looks like it is having a think

Calochortus · 24/01/2025 09:37

Oh you’re right it’s circling.
