So you're dead

So you're sadly dead, you got hit by a bus, which was unfortunately on time for a fucking change, what song would you want at your funeral?

I think I'd want Little Wonders by Rob Thomas. I like to think I'd have something really funny and inappropriate but realistically some of my family would not find that funny.

Ha Ha You're Dead- Green Day, I have told my family I will come back and haunt them if they burn me (terrified of fire) and if they don't play my song😂.

ilovesooty · 22/01/2025 00:32

Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen
Out of the Blue and into the Black by Neil Young and Crazy Horse
The Sound of Silence by Disturbed
Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves.

I have absolutely no idea. I would like a Victorian funeral with the glass hearse and black horses with feather plumes, though, and to stipulate that everyone had to wear black (and veils). I'm not going to put it in my will, though, as I doubt everyone would love it as much as I would have done.

I don’t want a funeral. I want to go straight from being pronounced to the crematorium. Instead of the expense of a funeral I’d rather my family take my ashes home and have a holiday there.

Zonder · 22/01/2025 00:38

Parting Glass by the Pogues.

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs7 · 22/01/2025 00:39

I was Glad - Hubert Parry.
Love Bade Me Welcome- Vaughan Williams.
How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place- Brahms

Preciousmoments18 · 22/01/2025 00:44

A mixture of spiritual (traditional hymns) & contemplative music & possibly a song by Edith Piaf.

I've been to funerals where the choices were supposedly chosen to make people laugh. One was bordering on embarrassing as people watched relatively young children sobbing as the curtain closed. It just felt wrong & fwiw nobody laughed.

EdithBond · 22/01/2025 00:45

Grateful Dead - Friend of the Devil
The Trammps - Disco Inferno
Motorhead - Life’s a Bitch
Rozalla - Everybody’s Free
Sinéad O’Connor - This is to Mother You
Gipsy Kings - A Mi Manera

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 22/01/2025 00:51

Gosh, don't we get more than one?

On the way in - Sit Down by James
On the way out - Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds

And they'd have to fit a version of You Are My Sunshine in there somewhere, it's become something of a family tradition.

Edit to throw one more in: Every Day is a Winding Road by Sheryl Crow.

Abouttoblow · 22/01/2025 00:53

Insomnia - Faithless
All of my family and friends have been instructed.

Rebel Rebel by David Bowie or My way.

We had my way for my dads funeral, also he wanted the Godfather theme tune it made everyone laugh which he also did in life.

BobbyBiscuits · 22/01/2025 00:55

Love spreads by the stone roses. ❤️
But I wouldn't really care that much. I just think if I'm gone then that's it. And I'm cool with that.

My mum has all these hymns and very old school songs in different languages she says she wants. I'm just thinking, I hope I'm not too traumatised to both find and recognise them all! But she clearly feels strongly about it as she always mentions where her funeral songs list is kept.
So I would definitely honour it!

For me, I'm not really bothered tbh. As long as they don't play Gary Glitter or some terrible cheesy ballad shit like Adele 🤣

Originalmemberr · 22/01/2025 00:57

I don't want a funeral but if family wanted to go ahead I've made a note on my phone of the songs I'd like:

Sleep instead of tear drops, Del Amitri
All too well, Taylor Swift (my favourite song, although Haunted by TS may be more appropriate!)
Supermarket flowers, Ed Sheeran
You’ll never walk alone, Gerry and the Pacemakers

Not necessarily in that order!

IncessantNameChanger · 22/01/2025 00:58

Felling hot hot hot or ring of fire by Johny Cash

MaloryJones · 22/01/2025 01:01

Entry Song Lord of the Dance

Middle Song Moonlight Shadow or Arms of An Angel

Final Song Time to say Goodbye or I'll Find my Way Home or, just because, Fire.

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 22/01/2025 01:03

In my life by the Beatles for my husband and children.
I absolutely love Psalm 23 so would like that to be read.
husband has suggested I have “you’re dead” theme from What We do in the Shadows. To be honest it would be my style

Dita73 · 22/01/2025 01:03

If you don’t know me by now

joking!

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 22/01/2025 01:04

Oh and DH would have Sad Captains by Elbow.

ThatLimeCat · 22/01/2025 01:08

Sex Pistols cover of My Way. It would be really funny

isitmeamithedrama · 22/01/2025 01:09

I don't think anyone will come to mine but
Precious memories by JJ Cale if I have one.

TheHappyHippy · 22/01/2025 01:13

As my coffin is disappearing behind the crematorium curtains, I'm going to have "Three Wheels on my Wagon"

Boiledbeetle · 22/01/2025 01:16

I'm another one who doesn't want a funeral, but if I did I'd go for cremation and I'd want:
Tell me it's not True from the musical Blood Brothers as I'm brought in

Forever Autumn by Justin Hayward in the middle of the no doubt long and heartfelt eulogies about me 😉

Fire by Arthur Brown as the curtain closes.
