So you're dead

So you're sadly dead, you got hit by a bus, which was unfortunately on time for a fucking change, what song would you want at your funeral?

I think I'd want Little Wonders by Rob Thomas. I like to think I'd have something really funny and inappropriate but realistically some of my family would not find that funny.

Come Fly With Me, by Frank Sinatra.
Loved holidays with my late DH, and this always reminds me of getting to the airport and jetting off to somewhere gorgeous.

Processional Somewhere from West Side Story, moment for thought Going Missing by Maximo Park and Dancing Queen by ABBA for the end. Full spectrum of my eclectic taste 😁

TiredyMcTired · 23/01/2025 20:30

I’ve got a few, need to get this down in writing in a funeral plan. I said to DH that if I can’t have a huge marching band of bagpipes like the late queen did (loved that, it was so moving) which might be a tad difficult to arrange, then he’s to make sure that You’ll Never Walk Alone is played. Also on the list:
Amazing Grace
Pachelbel Canon
Sit Down - James
What a Wonderful World - Israel Kamakawiwo’ole
Nimrod
Let your love flow - Bellamy Brothers
Smile - Nat King Cole.
Insomnia - Faithless

Hopefully none of them will be required any time soon🤞🏻

My dad was an atheist but went to a friend's funeral and they played "I'm on the top of the world looking down on creation" by the carpenters. He said it was quite " toe tappy " and he liked the thought of looking down on the world regardless of god . So I had it played at his funeral and my mums and it's on my list too.

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 23/01/2025 20:39

I definitely want Galloping Home, (otherwise known as the theme to Black Beauty), as I arrive.
I change my mind quite frequently on what else to have, but currently I'm going with We Have All The Time In The World, as performed live by Elbow in the R2 Piano room.
My Dd will probably want some Abba too, possibly My Love, My Life.

helenmrees · 23/01/2025 21:02

I wanted Somewhere over the Rainbow, but the Priest cautioned against it asking 'What would happen if the wrong song was played and you got - Ding Dong the witch is dead.'

I don’t want a funeral.

What day do you put your bins out?

CyanMaker · 23/01/2025 23:38

Either Knockin' On Heaven's Door or Stairway To Heaven.

RavenofEngland · 23/01/2025 23:51

I’ve actually taken out a pure cremation plan so no funeral for me, but I would hope that when the time comes, my loved ones will have a party to commemorate my life. I don’t really have a favourite song. I’m quite fond of different genres of music and the music in my Apple library includes 80s, 90s rock, heavy metal and even some Disney Channel movie music. I think if I was having a traditional funeral, I might have The Greatest Show just for a laugh.

battgirlatheart · 24/01/2025 00:38

Copacabana complete with maracas and I’m in the mood for dancing!!

YouLookNiceJackie · 24/01/2025 00:42

My lovely grandmother died on Saturday, she would have been 98 in March. My mum and I have chosen Edelweiss (André Rieu version), What a wonderful world (Eva Cassidy) and Moon River because she loved to waltz up until she was about 92 🥰

keffie12 · 24/01/2025 00:44

Forever young Bob Dylan

Moosicmad · 24/01/2025 02:00

I'm having Spirit in the Sky, the Dr and the Medics version because I love the 80's.
Also fancy something wild like Highway to Hell and then either Proper Crimbo or Once Upon a Christmas Song, even if it's in the middle of Summer 😄

I know my ex husband would be happy to play that at mine!

What day do you put your bins out?

They used to have a particular advert on TV for (yet another) death savings plan, where the actor said something like 'my children can use the money for my funeral or, alternatively, they can use it for something else special instead, if they choose'.

I always used to wonder what they'd do about the small matter of disposing of the body, if they opted for the latter and spent all the cash going out on the razz. Would they just hire a van and yeet it into a skip at the council tip?!

Forever young Bob Dylan

I love that, but I'd definitely go for Johnny Cash's version.

Bob Dylan is an amazing songwriter... and that's all I'll say.

Smokebelch II (Beatless Mix) - Sabres of Paradise
Life on Mars - David Bowie
Cabaret - Liza Minelli

I'd never heard of Sabres of Paradise until the rumours/reports circulated of a secret playlist that was drawn up for all national radio stations of 'the saddest songs' to be played instead of anything happy or upbeat when the Queen died - and one of their songs (I forget the title - nothing about belching though!) was said to be the saddest song ever recorded.

I think it was in response to all the radio stations being caught on the hop when Diana died, and I remember even Virgin Radio switched to sombre classical music all day.

If such a list did exist, I don't recall it actually being used widely when the Queen did die. I suppose she wasn't that far short of 100 and I think she was naturally 'ready' to go by then, so not the same shock as when Diana left us at less than a third of the Queen's (eventual) age.
