So you're dead

So you're sadly dead, you got hit by a bus, which was unfortunately on time for a fucking change, what song would you want at your funeral?

I think I'd want Little Wonders by Rob Thomas. I like to think I'd have something really funny and inappropriate but realistically some of my family would not find that funny.

Half the world away Oasis and I want Lord of the Dance

AllEndeavour · 22/01/2025 06:09

I was always under the impression funerals were for the loved ones benefit, rather than the deceased.i hope my family members have them when they pass.

I'd like Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles

Sorry to dent the spell, but for those of you who genuinely don't want a funeral, have you considered donating your body to science. I have considered doing so, but then I don't think my children would like that - although they would probably be proud of me if I did decide to do that - but then if I could afford it, I would also really like a woodland burial, especially if I could be put in something like a hessian pod, and then have a tree planted on top of me. I expect that unfortunately, that sort of funeral is way out of my price range...

Read the thread, at least two of us are doing that.

Didntstop · 22/01/2025 06:21

Mine will be Superstar by Love Inc. it will be an ode to my son. I don't think I I'm having a funeral though. Both of my parents opted for direct cremation and I was against it at the time but I get it now.

keepgoingbackagain · 22/01/2025 06:23

Mine is also here comes the sun by the Beatles. I want my family to have my funeral and then move on with their lives, I think that song is a nice way to symbolise that.

This was my debate with my terminally ill dad. He understood my pov but ultimately, he couldn't control the illness ravaging his body, but he could control this. Privately he said he didn't want distant family members who he didn't care for attending, drinking tea and eating sandwiches and putting themselves front and centre.

What helped enormously was the amount of people who admired him and said they respected his choice, and thought it fitting of him as he was always his own man and true to himself.

All the time in the worldLouis Armstrong. and Time to say goodbye - Andrei Bochelli

handsdownthebest · 22/01/2025 06:51

Mine is Titanium by Sia.

RedRiverShore5 · 22/01/2025 06:51

Every Grain of Sand, Bob Dylan
Closing Time, Leonard Cohen

LemonBossy · 22/01/2025 06:55

I had a big think about this overnight 😂
I actually had a Spotify list of my funeral songs but when I had a relisten they were all much too somber 🥲

My new idea is Kirsty McCall's Days, and I'm toying with Divine Comedy's Charmed Life or Tonight We Fly.
And also Neil Hannon singing Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. Fuck it, let them weep 😂😂

Although I actually don't want a funeral either.

HarryGrotter · 22/01/2025 06:57

I’m having wherever you will go by the calling and the show must go on by Queen

Bigboysmademedoit · 22/01/2025 06:58

You’re Dead - Norma Tanega.

Oodlesandoodlesofnoodles · 22/01/2025 07:00

The Day Thou Gavest Lord Has Ended
Thine be the Glory

Just the classics! I do like the baby City Rollers montage at the end of Love Actually, though.

You'll Never Walk Alone, Gerry and the Pacemakers

I love this song but…

hearing this would give certain members of my family the rage 😡 since they’re ‘blues.’

I don’t give a shit about the foottie so I’d have a good laugh while singing along in my new ghostly voice.

On the way out I’d have ‘I’m walking on sunshine’
and encourage everyone to have good dance before heading to the pub to raise a pint or two.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 21/01/2025 23:08

I don't want 'songs'. I want beautiful music and hymns.
Nimrod by Elgar. Maybe ' I know that my redeemer liveth' from the messiah.

Oh lovely choices. I'd have 'Comfort Ye' leading into a nice rousing 'Every Valley' with instructions to everyone to attempt to sing along...

@Moier Flowers I'm so sorry x

LlynTegid · 22/01/2025 07:04

It may not surprise you that I would want a good Welsh hymn, Guide Me o Thou Great Redeemer.

Keepkondoing · 22/01/2025 07:07

JustBec · 21/01/2025 23:34

Go Now by The Moody Blues.

we had this at my mums funeral, she lived the moody blues and this is such a beautiful song. I can’t listen to it without crying now though.

KvotheTheBloodless · 22/01/2025 07:10

Another One Bites The Dust by Queen.

Or Wanted Dead or Alive.

Something inappropriate that'll make people laugh.

Farewell by Apocalyptica

I was about to say the same!

LemonBossy · 22/01/2025 07:21

@Keepkondoing

See this is the problem, after experiencing both of my parents' funerals, I want to be careful not to choose music that my loved ones are likely to encounter in their everyday lives.

RetroTotty · 22/01/2025 07:21

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 22/01/2025 05:47

And what will you do there ? 😁

She'll get high......

RetroTotty · 22/01/2025 07:24

Farewell, Farewell - Fairport Convention
Shiny Happy People - REM

NooNakedJacuzziness · 22/01/2025 07:26

My dad had a direct cremation and we were told we couldn't choose the music but that something classical would be played.

I want the Rainbow Connection if I do have one

HoraceCope · 22/01/2025 07:30

Wow
kate bush

Globules · 22/01/2025 07:32

DD already knows all this:

I want Mozart's requiem mass as I come in.

I then want Rabbithole by Camelphat as the crem curtains close and my coffin goes down...perfectly timed with the line in the song

"We're going in now, deeper down and round we go"

And my wake will have my 40th birthday party Spotify playlist of 90s tunes in the background.
