So you're dead

So you're sadly dead, you got hit by a bus, which was unfortunately on time for a fucking change, what song would you want at your funeral?

I think I'd want Little Wonders by Rob Thomas. I like to think I'd have something really funny and inappropriate but realistically some of my family would not find that funny.

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars as it does have a special meaning.

I would also be tempted with something ironic to amuse my dry sense of humour and give everyone a wee laugh before they leave my cremation e.g

Meat Loaf - Bat out of hell
Queen - Don't stop me now
Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire

Or Another Ones Bits The Dust - Queen Smile

Dead Now by Frightened Rabbit. My favourite lyric “I’m dead now can you hear the relief as life’s belligerent symphonies finally cease” 👌

They still play songs for direct cremations, they ask what they would have liked if it's not stated on the form

I didnt realise that, that's lovely I have some family who have chosen it

I really don't want a funeral at all

See I thought I felt like this but then I had two very close people die within a year. The funerals have been absolutely massive events in my life and I think about them at least weekly. I’d written them off as set piece social obligation type affairs but, but ….

I remember the event and all the feelings, conversations and emotions I felt during them very keenly. I even remember what I ate and drunk at the reception thing afterward, and the detail of every conversation I had.

I actually don’t know why people do this stuff BUT it is an almost universal human cultural practice to have rituals around death so I think it is probably important to mark people’s passing in some collective way like a funeral.

Free if We Want It - Nothing But Thieves
Like a Stone - Audioslave

Like a stone - one of my favourite songs ❤️

My songs would be:

1st song - Living in a Box by Living in a Box

2nd song - Cold as Ice by foreigner

3rd song - Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley

mybelovedghostandme · 22/01/2025 00:07

Anti hero by Taylor swift
And then as the crem curtains close I want the theme tune to Larry David's curb your enthusiasm

Jakadaal · 22/01/2025 00:09

I want to come into Ave Maria, as the curtains close I want Somewhere over the Rainbow or Fields of Gold then I want to have everyone leaving and dancing to Ain't no Stopping Us now. The reflection song will be As (the Stevie Wonder version)

Last Goodbye … oh yes, 1000x agree. Songwriting genius.

I don't want a funeral. Waste of money. My parents are gone and I'm single, so there's no point spending my niblings' inheritance and inconveniencing everyone to take time out to come. I think it's more important to spend time with people while they're still alive.

LBFseBrom · 22/01/2025 00:18

I used to say I wanted my ashes scattered over Hungerford Bridge to the tune of 'Waterloo Sunset'. Now I am 75 I really don't care what happens to my remains.

MadamePeriwinkle · 22/01/2025 00:19

Copacabana by Barry Manilow and All I Wanna Do by Sheryl Crow

CustardySergeant · 22/01/2025 00:20

There'll be no funeral for either me or my husband. We'll both be carted off to the crematorium and burned. No wake, no funeral, nothing.

The Mii Channel music - from the Wii.

Dave Edmunds' It Doesn't Really Matter
Bette Midler's version of This Ole House

BottomWibblyWob · 22/01/2025 00:25

In those circumstances it HAS to be This Charming Man

123dogdog · 22/01/2025 00:26

Off the top of my head I’m going to say Skye - Runrig, with Welcome to the Black Parade - MCR, Welcome to My Life - Simple Plan, and just for fun Spirit In The Sky - Gareth Gates with The Kumars (I just really enjoy that song 🤣)

not that I think there will be anyone to go to my funeral if I decide to live an average human life span but you never know 🤣

lcakethereforeIam · 22/01/2025 00:26

The Garden by Rush

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 22/01/2025 00:27

If I had died when I was younger would have chosen Forever Young by Bob Dylan or a cover version. Now Fields of Gold.
I also would like a New Orleans Jazz Band (as in James Bond film Live & Let Die opening sequence) - but suspect my DH would ignore that wish!

estornudar · 22/01/2025 00:30

Hips Don't Lie by Shakira

CulturalNomad · 22/01/2025 00:30

I won't be having a funeral, but the thought of people trying not to laugh while Sinatra's The Lady is a Tramp was playing makes me happy😇
