I pity the jurors on that case Sad

I hope that the jurors been discharged for life now.

Notonthestairs · 27/01/2025 18:48

Oh my goodness that BBC article. Unimaginable. Those poor children.

bombastix · 27/01/2025 18:49

@PandoraSox obviously not. Clearly not the offenders Elon Musk was looking for

dontcallmelen · 27/01/2025 18:49

Have a lovely time with your friend Blossom spending time with good friends is a balm to the soul
I went to my oldest friend’s sons 40th birthday party at the weekend, my granddaughter’s played with her granddaughter’s watching the cycle of life & how much our lives have been entwined over the years warmed my heart.

Hopefully. I hope they are supported with access to counselling if needed.

I am glad a jury didn't have to sit through the Rudakubana trial.

PandoraSox · 27/01/2025 18:54

I'm really sorry everyone, I should have put a trigger warning on that post.

countrygirl99 · 27/01/2025 18:58

The last thing I did in my last job was go into Google for my employers 440+ sites individually to turn off AI updates as it was updating with absolutely ridiculous opening times. E.g. teeny bank branch in small market town open 24/7, bigger branch but in a shopping centre not accessible overnight open 8pm to 6am, another branch open 22 hours a day but closed for 2 hours at lunchtime. Unsurprisingly I don't have much faith in AI.

Araminta1003 · 27/01/2025 19:01

That is seriously sickening @PandoraSox, complete monsters.

Will there will be multiple MN threads about this horrific case?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2dxj570n21o

Fucking hell. But sadly nothing surprises me since I found out that FIL was gagged and raped by his grandfather when he was 8.

pointythings · 27/01/2025 19:05

I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of people asking the people on these threads who are thinking of leaving to please stay. This is one of the few remaining civilised corners of MN, it would be awful to lose it. I think we will all end up being very, very selective in where we post or even what we look at, but we can batten down the hatches and share political discourse, civil disagreements and the usual assortment of flowers, dogs, cats and sundry tax contributions.

pointythings · 27/01/2025 19:06

MN has deleted the thread about the UK becoming a US state.

bombastix · 27/01/2025 19:18

Oh no (oh yes!)

PandoraSox · 27/01/2025 19:23

Oh, it was a hairy hand?

God, that's horrific. Your poor FIL.

Llttledrummergirl · 27/01/2025 19:32

They've managed to remove an awful, anti semitic thread in 10 minutes. Maybe someone is listening.

DuncinToffee · 27/01/2025 19:40

Lord Heseltine is still going strong

"The creation of the EU Single Market was Margaret Thatcher's greatest achievements"

"I am appalled by Brexit"

"I don't believe for an instant that we should accept the verdict of a pack of lies, in order to persuade people to sever our relations with Europe"

Just on the AIBU threads, I do not generally go there at all. I feel MN needs a pop up to the effect of this quote “Every person in a country needs to become their own sort of intelligence analyst – being critical in assessing the source of information, being literate enough to understand when something could potentially be fake, and looking for several sources to confirm.”

Some other countries are appointing bodies to remind people of disinformation/their role in not becoming a “misinformer”, a bit like the Information Commissioner here for data protection.
I haven;’t looked into the new legislation coming in shortly, but I think we absolutely need a body to overlook this.

PickAChew · 27/01/2025 19:41

Oh I bloody hope so. Unfortunately, I think the response depends heavily upon who is on duty at the time.

There are some vile, nasty, depraved people in this world with no care for how much they ruin young lives. My spidey senses tell me that the Scottish case won't be reigniting the baying for more inquiries into grooming gangs.

countrygirl99 · 27/01/2025 19:43

PandoraSox · 27/01/2025 19:25

God, that's horrific. Your poor FIL.

He didn't tell a soul for nearly 80 years until wearing a mask during covid pushed him too far. He ended up paying someone to shop for him because he just couldn't cope with having his face covered.

Araminta1003 · 27/01/2025 20:18

That is heartbreaking @countrygirl99

Evenstar · 27/01/2025 20:24

I think AIBU in general is a very bad thing, it just encourages people to pile on to anyone who expresses an opinion that they disagree with. I have had some very harsh words on a thread tonight where I expressed concern for a child rather than joining in with a pile on about a useless man who hadn’t looked after his sick DP and young DC. It wasn’t even clear they shared a household at first.

Evenstar · 27/01/2025 20:25

I also think AIBU in general attracts people who only want an argument and a lot of trolls.

Evenstar · 27/01/2025 20:26

Very sorry to hear about your FIL @countrygirl99 how distressing for you all to hear that as a family

ilovesooty · 27/01/2025 20:47

Piggywaspushed · 27/01/2025 17:06

I famously have never actually been deleted! True fact.

I've been deleted three times - two of them on matters relating to animal abuse. Not bad going in 17 years.

pointythings · 27/01/2025 20:48

I think I've been deleted about half a dozen times in 15 years - most of those have been in the last 5 though. I'm a bit cannier about how I word things now.
