Please don't go! I would miss you all. I may not post a lot on these threads, but I very much value your contributions.

Evenstar · 27/01/2025 16:34

I think there has been a mass exodus from Twitter of decent people on the left of politics and there are far right posters trawling the internet for places to start arguments instead. I spend a lot of time on Bluesky these days and their block function is completely effective as it prevents people seeing your posts as well. I actually think MN should have a block poster function and be moderating much more actively.

PandoraSox · 27/01/2025 16:35

I am happy to discuss the governments shortcomings, but the relentless doom-mongering is getting boring. Some of it is vicious and personal too (towards posters, not politicians).

prettybird · 27/01/2025 16:36

I've learnt to stop posting in certain topics. Scotsnet for example has become toxic at least for me Wink It started during Covid Sad Even though I continued to have a morbid curiosity as to what was being posted, I made myself sit on my hands and not be provoked into refuting some of the statements.

I'll now only post in the Scotsnet topic if it's specifically factual information that someone is asking about - eg where to park, how long it takes to get somewhere.

Elsewhere on MN, I try to restrict myself to these threads, the Ukraine thread, the Brexit thread (although there is one poster whose posts I always skim past and ignore even though he regularly tries to engage with me by tagging me Hmm wish there was a way to block particular posters ), the long running Trump threads not the recent bot/AI driven ones Wink and the Boot Camp threads.

PandoraSox · 27/01/2025 16:39

Blossom, if you are reading, ignore those bloody bullies on the other thread. Don't give em the satisfaction.

Oh that's interesting.

In some cases it started way before the election and those posters have just ramped it up ever since. I'm not going anywhere. I don't want to give posters like that what they want. I'd love a block poster function but it would have to apply to name changes as well.

Piggywaspushed · 27/01/2025 16:45

Don't go blossom. Stay here, and in other safe spaces . For me it's books (honestly the worst they do is mildly argue about Kazuo Ishiguro), certain parts of Telly Addicts, health boards and the odd diverting HE thread - or random ones about biscuits or your favourite Gladiator. I curse myself the minute I post on AIBU.

I think this quote quite apt when dealing with the offending posters

I love that @Evenstar, thank you for making me laugh. I needed that.

Piggywaspushed · 27/01/2025 16:51

During Covid teachers starting posting daffodils when they were being attacked (it was inspired by some people's revolution or other). This caused outrage and we kept getting deleted when we were under attack. I never quite got over that victim blaming. There was literally no way of arguing with the people attacking us. This is when I learned to ignore threads.

All the prolific teacher posters deserted the staffroom because of lurkers and personal attacks and rarely post at all on MN now which is sad because Staffroom used to be a proper supportive space.

Those very same lurkers still lurk elsewhere.

They are just lively saddoes excited by the prospect of being untroubled by complexity. And should be pitied.

PandoraSox · 27/01/2025 16:56

Careful lads, I can practically feel the fingers hovering above the report button.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/01/2025 16:59

I spend most of my time in 'the litter tray'. 🤣

I'd also request that nobody disappears from the site and this particular thread. I'm now avoiding the more toxic threads - nobody is going to change their mind on them so there's little point engaging (although I still may feel a need to respond to some of the more egregious posts I spot...)

Please don’t go Blossom or any other poster feeling the same hide the threads sit on your hands or in your head call them cuntychops who inhabit the planet cuntyland

SerendipityJane · 27/01/2025 17:02

Presumably Twitter is slowly being distilled as the moderates are being boiled off. Eventually it will be a concentrated solution of bile.

It's certainly not a platform I will ever use again.

On a related theme, I did see a pleading post from a Tesla owner about how they wouldn't be able to get around if it wasn't for some special unique cybertruck features. But they are getting "the bird" a lot now. Which suggests not all Americans are Musk fans. (Just the ones on MN 😀)

I famously have never actually been deleted! True fact.

Amateur. 🤣
I got (briefly) banned for taking the piss out of another poster.

DuncinToffee · 27/01/2025 17:15

I got deleted a few times recently, only realised because I received smiley emojis from those posters.

De-activating x was good

Well said Piggy

If you take a step back, you can actually just laugh at this sudden obsession with polls for example.

The polls that meant nothing in the run up to the GE or after for that matter - apparently!!!

I've not seen any of the threads you're all referring to but I can imagine having seen MN the past few weeks 🙄

prettybird · 27/01/2025 17:25

I've never to my knowledge been deleted either Grin

Actually, I tell a lie Wink: I got deleted once but when I queried it, it was reinstated as the moderator had misunderstood/misinterpreted what I'd said.

itsgettingweird · 27/01/2025 17:26

Blossom please don't let others drive you out. You have so much wisdom - just share it with the right people..........

Us 👀😂

I’m going to have a break this week. I have my best friend of more than 40 years coming to stay so it’s the perfect opportunity to take some time out.
