Do you wash your (secondary school) kids uniform every day?

Just looking for normality check. I have boys so trousers and shirt. I used to wash regularly every day when they were little as they just get muddy all the time. That’s less the case now, but I still feel like I should have clean set every day.

Yes but mine are sweaty creatures.

sammyspoon · 15/01/2025 16:33

Shirts they have 3 or 4 each. Wash weekly. One skirt and jumper each. Wash weekly. Blazer wash every half term.

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 15/01/2025 16:33

Yes my ds has a clean uniform every day, trousers, polo shirt and jumper.

Yes -but my son plays football at break so it’s rarely a day it’s not muddy or grass stained 🤣

IesuGrist1975 · 15/01/2025 16:34

Clean shirts every day, not trousers and certainly not blazers! Uniform is washed at the weekend all in one go, we have 28 shirts to wash each week 😱

SillyOlivePanda · 15/01/2025 16:35

Mine have a fresh shirt every day. Skirt or trousers 2 or so wears out of. Blazer gets washed on a Weds and at the weekend.

Comedycook · 15/01/2025 16:35

Yes every day. Occasionally wear the skirt two days in a row.

MajorCarolDanvers · 15/01/2025 16:35

Mostly uniform can get worn twice. Occasionally 3 times.

Monkeybutt1 · 15/01/2025 16:35

Yep clean uniform aside from blazer every day but I just do a couple school uniform washes (trousers and blazer and shirts) on a Friday, they all get saved until then and put in together

Tarantella6 · 15/01/2025 16:36

Clean shirt every day. Skirt and jumper last 2-3 days.

GroovyChick87 · 15/01/2025 16:36

Clean shirt every day. Clean jumper and trousers every other day unless they visibly need washing.

User3456 · 15/01/2025 16:37

I used to try and get 2 days out of uniform until covid hit. Then we started doing clean every day. Now we know thats not how it spreads, but with other bugs spread through fomites (eg norovirus) we have kept the habit up.

TenThousandSpoons · 15/01/2025 16:37

Clean shirt every day, trousers and jumpers usually ok for two days but change after one day if they get dirty. Blazer gets washed once per half term.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 15/01/2025 16:37

Unless stained or dirty, most items such as trousers/skirts/jumper/cardigan I would wash once (sometimes twice if weather hot) weekly. I used to wash shirts daily and of course tights/socks. (Had enough for the week)
blazers every half term unless really dirty or sweaty.
my dc tended to change after school and either hang it’s up or drape over a chair - which might make a difference so they weren’t for example eating dinner in uniform or lying on their beds for an extra 6 hours or so after school.

Flidina · 15/01/2025 16:38

When mine were in secondary, they had clean trousers and shirt every day, they didn't wear a jumper, blazers and ties were washed weekly, so they each had 2 in rotation.

Mumofteenandtween · 15/01/2025 16:38

Shirts daily.
Trousers and v neck jumper every 2 days.
Blazers weekly.
Ties termly if I remember!

They each have enough uniform to last a week if necessary.

EvilNextDoor · 15/01/2025 16:38

Mine both have 2 x branded jumpers, clean shirts and trousers every day (they have enough school uniform for a clean shirt/trousers daily) I expect them to wear their jumpers over the 5 days without making them dirty. No blazers here. They have PE twice a week and depending on the activity it might get washed between PE days.

I wash all school uniform on a Friday night, so it’s dried and ready for Sunday to be set out for the week:

cheezncrackers · 15/01/2025 16:39

Shirt and underwear every day. Trousers and jumper once a week (or if muddy/dirty, more often). Jacket/Blazer typically every half term (or more often if dirty).

aliceinawonderland · 15/01/2025 16:42

Those who wash blazers weekly... is this because they are used as football goal posts? If not, do you clean your own jackets that frequently?

I'd wash a blazer each half term if it were looking grubby.

Nottodaty · 15/01/2025 16:43

Clean shirt everyday.
two skirts so midweek changes
blazer & jumper is washed weekly. (Sometimes the jumper midweek washed if it’s ended up on the floor. I chuck the skirts, blazer , jumper uniform & pe kit (2 tops and leggings) all together washed at weekend.

Sassybooklover · 15/01/2025 16:43

My son's blazer and jumper are washed once a week. He has a clean shirt/trousers every day. When he was in Infant/Junior school he would have a clean polo top, trousers and jumper every day too.

Nottodaty · 15/01/2025 16:44

@aliceinawonderland the material her blazer has easy care -I wash it weekly mainly due to the fact she sprays perfume and it stinks of the stuff!

ClementinePancakes · 15/01/2025 16:45

Clean shirt every day.
Skirts and trousers weekly, so probably 2 or 3 days wear as they have more than one.
Jumpers and blazers are wool, so are hung up to air and just cleaned occasionally.
Clean PE kit every PE lesson.

angelcake20 · 15/01/2025 16:46

Shirt every day, trousers twice a week, skirt weekly (only had one as it's so expensive!).

FlowersOfSulphur · 15/01/2025 16:46

We do:
Clean shirt every two days
Skirts, jumpers, blazers* (polyester) - once a week
Trousers - fresh pair daily at the moment because they get so muddy, but generally once a week.

  • one DC has a wool blazer which is dry clean only. I have yet to launder it Blush
