Do you wash your (secondary school) kids uniform every day?

Just looking for normality check. I have boys so trousers and shirt. I used to wash regularly every day when they were little as they just get muddy all the time. That’s less the case now, but I still feel like I should have clean set every day.

Er, no, I took it to the laundromat. It's not like I was doing sports in my school cardy! Do you wash your sweaters every time you wear them?

Yes I do!

Good grief!

Those who wash blazers weekly... is this because they are used as football goal posts? If not, do you clean your own jackets that frequently?

I'd wash a blazer each half term if it were looking grubby.

I would wash a blazer weekly or more as my son is sweaty 😥 A blazer has to be kept on all the time so a sweaty shirt next to blazer, the blazer smells. Yes he showers once or twice a day and wears deodorant. I would not want to sit next to him in class if it. Wasn’t washed for weeks!

Eenameenadeeka · 15/01/2025 22:06

I wash it every day

doneandone · 15/01/2025 22:22

They have clean trousers and shirt on everyday and I wash the blazer when it gets dirty and at the end of each term

LER83 · 15/01/2025 22:28

Clean shirt and trousers/skirt everyday, clean jumpers roughly every other day, blazers get washed maybe once a month along with coats. Pe kit I try to wash weekly but this is dependant on whether I can find it! (Ds only has pe once a week, dd twice.) Wash it all on a Friday night (they have 6 tops/bottoms so always one ready for Monday morning!)

Decafflatteplease · 15/01/2025 22:34

Fresh shirt /polo top here every day so that's 25 shirts a week 😱

2 skirts / trousers

2 jumpers

2 blazers which get washed once a half term although they never wear the 2nd ones as they are spares

About a million ties.

2 lots of pe kit (actually 4 as seperate summer and winter pe kit but only wear 2 sets a week)

DementedPanda · 15/01/2025 22:37

Clean shirt and trousers every day. Blazer once a week. Tie if it gets dirty.

WhassatNow · 15/01/2025 22:37

Fresh shirt / sports top daily. Trousers, jumper, other kit can do a couple of days if aired overnight.

DiscoBeat · 15/01/2025 22:40

Yes, trousers and shirt fresh everyday, but jumpers he has 3 of so he wears the twice. DS16 is in 6th form so in suits which is more tricky. He has two suits with two pairs of trousers and I get them dry cleaned every half term.

Suits for 6th form?

Blazers being washed once a month or once a half term?!

Jeez, they could probably get up and walk away by themselves after that long.

Why does a skirt need to be washed after only a couple of days? One or two people have said after one day?

thaegumathteth · 16/01/2025 01:21

For ds - Clean shirt every day and jumper if worn. Trousers every 2/3 days. Blazer hardly worn.

For Dd - clean shirt every day and tights and leggings. Skirts get worn more than once and she has approximately 230 school jumpers / hoodies which she wears randomly.

I don't think mine have been done since the summer hols! My kids don't smell or look dirty but they are pretty clean kids and wash themselves daily. I wash what's necessary ie. Underwear daily and shirts a couple of times per week.

There is a layer (or two) of clothing between their skin and the blazer. They don't spill food at lunch and blazer comes off straight after school. It is like a coat. How often do you wash your secondary school child's coat? And how is your child getting their blazer so dirty? Do they roll in mud? Have such a bad sweating problem it penetrates through their shirt? Spill dinner everywhere?

Not really, it's basically just a coat. How often do you wash your coat?

I did have to wash my sons tie this week, he has gotten something down it, looked like paint. But that isn't the norm.

MaryGreenhill · 16/01/2025 09:28

I washed my Dds uniform daily .
Trousers shirt long sleeve polo .
Blazers about twice a month , ties if they had spilt something on them .

Suits for 6th form?

Yes, strictly suit and tie and formal shoes! Such a pain now having to dry clean it when I can just machine wash his younger brother's uniform!

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/01/2025 15:05

They used to have clean shirts and underwear every day. Skirts, trousers and jumpers would do 2/3 days no problems.
Blazer was usually only dry cleaned every half term with spot cleaning in between.

Carolenarua · 16/01/2025 15:20

I am in disbelief, washing everything after 1 wear or 2! Fair enough for shirts but jumpers, skirts and trousers unless they are visibly covered in mud, it seems excessive. What a waste of water & energy plus potentially releasing microplastics into the environment. It's also going to make the clothes wear way quicker.

K0OLA1D · 16/01/2025 15:22

DS1 is 13 and wears a clean shirt everyday. Trousers he has 2 pairs a week. 1 jumper, which gets washed once a week and blazer when I remember.

DS2 is 11 and he changes his shirt every other day. 2 trousers and same jumper.
