Do you wash your (secondary school) kids uniform every day?

Just looking for normality check. I have boys so trousers and shirt. I used to wash regularly every day when they were little as they just get muddy all the time. That’s less the case now, but I still feel like I should have clean set every day.

When I wore a school uniform, I had clean shirts every day, but the rest (skirt, cardigan, jumper) was washed maybe once a term.

reluctantbrit · 15/01/2025 19:52

Shirts - each day
Jumper - wear twice, so she had 3
Skirt - two, she could change if necessary

All this was then washed at the weekend.

Blazer - dry cleaning only, so each half-term and otherwise lots of febreeze and aired outside if it was dry.

mumbruh · 15/01/2025 19:55

Wear shirts until they're visibly dirty or smelly so most 3 day wear in winter but they do have 6 each anyway.
Likewise they have 3 trousers/ skirts each and 3 jumpers each
Not to mention about 20 pairs of tights.

Clean shirt and tights daily (dd, y8)
2x skirts and pe kit washed weekly
Blazer washed every half term

unconditionalpurelove · 15/01/2025 19:56

Yes apart from the blazer

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 15/01/2025 20:00

Shirts they have 3 each, and 3 trousers each. Blazers get washed each half term unless particularly mucky.

Thankfully they are not particularly sweaty, stinky teens.

Julieju1 · 15/01/2025 20:03

17 year old boy clean shirt and trousers daily. Clean jumper normally once a week, sometimes twice, his choice.
16 year old boy, wears the same trousers, shirt, Hoodie all week, cycles to and from school but doesn't get sweaty, his choice. Will wash them more often if needed but this is rare.

burblish · 15/01/2025 20:24

Secondary: fresh shirt every day, trousers usually get two days' wear, blazer dry cleaned periodically. Primary: fresh polo shirt, trousers and jumper daily. We have enough sets of uniform to last over a week, so only have to launder weekly.

LazyArsedMagician · 15/01/2025 20:25

No. I have three boys, they have a shirt per day, two pairs of trousers and one of them has a jumper. I was weekly, washed weekend in primary school.

Whippetlovely · 15/01/2025 20:27

Girl but she has a clean shirt everyday, jumpers and skirts last two days, blazer is washed every week on cold wash. Sports clothes washed after each wash

Neveragain35 · 15/01/2025 20:29

Clean shirt every day, skirts washed once a week. Blazer not that often. But then mine don’t play football or anything messy at school, and they get changed as soon as they get home (usually pyjamas!)

PrincessOfPreschool · 15/01/2025 20:29

sammyspoon · 15/01/2025 16:33

Shirts they have 3 or 4 each. Wash weekly. One skirt and jumper each. Wash weekly. Blazer wash every half term.

Similar. 2 or 3 shirts per week (less in winter, more when v hot). Trousers 2 in case but mostly one is worn. Skirt every couple of weeks, v worn with tights so not touching skin and it's pleated so don't like to wash too often. Jumper weekly. Blazer half term or termly in Winter.

TheMasterplan23 · 15/01/2025 20:32

Clean everything. Everyday. Always. Forever.

DS14 seems to like to roll around the football pitch at lunchtime.

Also new (size13) school shoes every few months. Oh and blazers that get the arm ripped off during football….and trousers that get holes in the knees on the Astro turf 🤦🏼‍♀️

In other news, I have a lovely DS free to a good home 😁

Sherararara · 15/01/2025 20:32

Don’t wash every day as they have multiple shirts and trousers so clean ones each day. Probably wash uniform mid week and at weekend. Only thing that
gets worn multiple days is the jumper.

namechangeGOT · 15/01/2025 20:49

Mine has 5 of everything (trousers, shirts and v neck jumpers) except PE kit which he has 2 of, blazer (x1) and tie (x1)!

I don't have time to arse around washing/drying/ironing a uniform every day so it all gets washed at the weekend!

BakewellGin1 · 15/01/2025 21:10

Shirts daily as I dont want DS to smell if he has sweaty underarms - he has five so I only wash them once a week

Trousers every two days

Blazer fortnightly. Again as I don't want him to smell.

PE kit after every use.

greenose · 15/01/2025 21:16

Mine have a fresh uniform for each day all they sweat a lot and are always. Spilling stuff on themselves

Gosh am I the first mean mummy here who makes them do their own washing when they get to secondary school?!

I only wash his shirts as they are the only white items he owns so I agreed I'd put them in with my whites. I bought the non iron ones and hang them up and the creases fall out.
He has fresh clothes every day and he washes them at the weekend. Washes his blazer every 2/3 weeks. He's year 7.

I suspect you are, yes. Or at least in a very small minority.

Most 11 yr olds find adjusting to secondary school quite a lot to take on board as it is (often whilst coping with puberty), without having to take on doing the laundry too.

Fuckthecamelyourodeinon · 15/01/2025 21:24

I honestly have no idea. I don't think so. I think DS2 only has one pair of school trousers but probably lots of tops? When they have PE etc they go in that rather than full uniform. But DS2 sorts out his own washing - he's more vested in making sure he's got clean sports kit than I am.

MessyNDepressy · 15/01/2025 21:27

Clean shirt and trousers everyday, he has 5+ of each. Two blazers, swaps to a fresh one on a Wednesday or Thursday, washed at the weekend. They are easy wash ones so just go in the machine and hung up on a hanger to dry. Tie washed once a week unless dirty. PE kit washed after every use.

TheWholeMealBaby · 15/01/2025 21:36

Always clean shirt, trousers & underwear.
Clean jumper every day in primary school but they are only worn sporadically in secondary school so as and when dirty. Blazers weekly.
Showered daily, fresh pjs every night.

Oodiks · 15/01/2025 19:46

So your jumper was washed approximately every 6 weeks? Didn't it walk to the washing machine by itself at that point?

Dueanamechange2025 · 15/01/2025 21:44

Both mine had clean shirts every day, then they have 3 pairs of trousers and 3 jumpers which all get washed on a weekend. So trousers / jumpers to last two days.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 15/01/2025 21:44

No didn't wash every day. Had 5/6 shirts, 3 trousers. Worked full time so all washed/pressed over weekend.

Oodiks · 15/01/2025 21:46

Er, no, I took it to the laundromat. It's not like I was doing sports in my school cardy! Do you wash your sweaters every time you wear them?
