Do you wash your (secondary school) kids uniform every day?

Just looking for normality check. I have boys so trousers and shirt. I used to wash regularly every day when they were little as they just get muddy all the time. That’s less the case now, but I still feel like I should have clean set every day.

DD has access to 10 x shirts (5x long sleeved & 5x short sleeved), 5 X trousers, 5 jumpers (2 last size, 2 medium, 1 next size) 3 X blazers (one is a size smaller but she could squeeze into it, one is her current size but had lots of 'pulls' on the material so I bought a new one) Obviously I haven't bought these new every year and some is previous years stuff she keeps as spares in a pinch.

She tends to wear a shirt a day, jumper and trousers every 2-3 days, 1 Blazer a week unless very hot, or has an unfortunate incident like bird poo.

I do one white shirt wash and one dark uniform wash on a Friday, I wouldn't be washing everyday. There's far too much stress in getting everything dry.

DD has a fresh polo shirt every day or she smells! Sweatshirt and skirt/trousers just wash as needed

Yes my ds has a clean uniform every day, trousers, polo shirt and jumper.

This

Mine has blazers at secondary which were washed less often, but still regularly

New shirt everyday obviously for ds(13)
Trousers changed after a few days, jumper too.

Turophilic · 15/01/2025 18:51

Clean shirt daily. I only ever sponge washed the ties when grubby and the blazers went in the wash each half term and had any mucky bits sponges off in between.

In hot weather it was blazer weekly because they would get whiffy.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 15/01/2025 18:53

Clean shirt every day, girls wear the one skirt all week, when ds was in high school he had 2 pairs of trousers for the week. Blazers washed whenever they bother to put them in.

idontknowwhattochangemynameto · 15/01/2025 18:53

Clean shirt everyday
Trousers worn twice then washed
Jumper worn twice then washed
Blazer every 2 weeks

NotTheGirlYoureLooking4 · 15/01/2025 18:58

I have 5 each of skirts, shirts and tights, 4 jumpers and 1 blazer. Jumpers can go a couple of days, blazer each half term or as needed. I try to get a mix of new / 2nd hand uniform where possible.

DD is in Y7. She has a clean blouse every day as I bought two packs of three. She has two skirts and wears one for a couple of days then it goes in the wash and she wears the other one for the rest of the week. Same for her school jumpers. Fresh pair of tights every day and PE kit washed weekly. She has one blazer and it gets washed occasionally. She doesn’t get grubby though.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/01/2025 19:06

Clean shirts, trousers and socks every day. Blazer rarely got washed. It hung in the hall with the coats.

RolliPop · 15/01/2025 19:08

I wash uniform once a week but they have 5 shirts each and 3 pairs of trousers and 3 jumpers

So it's only their blazer that's worn every day

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 15/01/2025 19:08

Clean uniform everyday here, however we don’t have a blazer to wash just jumpers, hoodies polos and trousers.

elliejjtiny · 15/01/2025 19:09

Depends on the child. Ds1 was always filthy so he had clean trousers, shirt and jumper every day and clean blazer and tie twice a week.

itispersonal · 15/01/2025 19:09

First shirt everyday. Skirt and jumper for the week unless they get dirty. Blazer every half term

pinkdelight · 15/01/2025 19:15

Nah, astonished at how many do clean shirts every day. Mine bath every night, wear deodorant and their shirts are fine for a couple of days at least. They're not super active though so never work up a sweat and and get changed when they get home.

HappyAsASandboy · 15/01/2025 19:24

Clean shirt every day.
Three pairs trousers to last the week.
Three jumpers to last the week.

We start the week with that plan, so I know I don't have to wash uniform mid week. In reality, I do wash uniform mid week most weeks, so they could wear clean everything most days.

Enough PE kit for clean every time. Nobody needs to be putting damp sports socks back on another day Envy

TheSeagullsSquawk · 15/01/2025 19:25

Yes 14 yo - clean shirt and trousers everyday. Could probably get another day out of shirts but trousers covered in mud. His shoes are appalling! Wash blazer once a week usually.

fruitj · 15/01/2025 19:28

Gosh am I the first mean mummy here who makes them do their own washing when they get to secondary school?!

I only wash his shirts as they are the only white items he owns so I agreed I'd put them in with my whites. I bought the non iron ones and hang them up and the creases fall out.
He has fresh clothes every day and he washes them at the weekend. Washes his blazer every 2/3 weeks. He's year 7.

realkfjs · 15/01/2025 19:37

No I don't. They don't have break times so no running around, and he hasn't got BO yet, despite being nearly 15! He seems to be a bit behind his peers tbh (still on the shorter side, no hair etc). He showers pretty much every day though.

KittenPause · 15/01/2025 19:39

I washed every few days because they had more than one top

Bit weird yes

cerebuswannabe · 15/01/2025 19:43

Clean shirt and trousers everyday. Wash blazer when looking mucky.

TokyoSushi · 15/01/2025 19:44

Full clean set every day, occasionally 2 days for DD's shirt, blazer washed on a Friday.

TokyoSushi · 15/01/2025 19:44

*DD's skirt!
