Herpes Medication found in my husbands bag

countrysidefields · 13/01/2025 16:10

I have just found empty packets of tablets from an online pharmacy box dated 17th dec 2024 for anciclovir in my husbands laptop bag.
All the empty packets and packing was also in the box, like it was hidden in there.
When I googled that medication it's used for genital herpes. He doesn't and never has had cold sores.
I am obviously thinking the worst seeing how it was hidden away. Please don't judge me, I wasn't actually looking on purposes, I happened to come across it.
Am I right to be assuming the worst?

but it’s recurring isn’t it?

I’m not a GP - I don’t know how much is usually prescribed for genital herpes ( IF that’s what OP’s husband has)

@countrysidefields I hope he hasn’t infected you if he has got this condition.
Could you get checked out?

HPandthelastwish · 13/01/2025 16:33

Genital herpes virus can live dormant for years and flare up just like cold sores and shingles.

It doesn't look great but it doesn't mean he has cheated, it could be a historic issue.

Which he should have told her about

OP, sorry to say but Superdrug prescribe for genital herpes, without seeing a doctor

PoisedBrickWriter · 13/01/2025 16:35

Check on box. I've got an outbreak now and on a five day course.

saveandfill · 13/01/2025 16:35

the sex issues you alluded to - does that mean you haven’t been having sex so you don’t need to worry on that front at least?

canyouletthedogoutplease · 13/01/2025 16:35

I would photograph them in case he tries to tell you you didn't see them, and then ask him calmly in a quiet moment what he's been taking aciclovir for?

And then button your lip.

Be prepared for him to tell you it's your problem for snooping and throw all kinds of distraction nonsense at you. And also accept that you're only going to know if he chooses to tell you, and you also have to decide if you're going to believe what he chooses to tell you.

It's a ruddy minefield and I don't envy you, but don't rush into anything, you're right to have a ponder.

countrysidefields · 13/01/2025 16:35

@oakleaffy I did think I will get myself checked out, just in case. I will have a look and find somewhere to get booked in. I think it's a good idea to get myself checked although I have never had an symptoms or reasons to think I do have it

@PoisedBrickWriter ofcourse, but it can lie dormant with no external symptoms at all so may not have known - obviously this will be the excuse he will use innocent or not.

before you speak with him you’ll wait for the results?

Edited

I can't remember exactly the last time we had sex, perhaps 3 months ago but as another poster said I will get myself checked out for peace of mind

The box was for 45 tablets, taken 3 times a day

They don't test for herpes and it wouldn't show unless she had an outbreak.

I've never passed it on to a previous partner. I was upfront and 4 men dumped me over it despite having cold sores as well

Depends on dosage etc

The strange thing is this was delivered from Superdrug pharmacy, the service you use online and the packing was all hidden in the box with the empty packets of tablets.
I'm thinking if it was something he wasn't ashamed of then wouldn't he just go to our usual doctors

It’s sometimes quicker and easier to get it online rather than make an appointment
you can collect at any superdrug it doesn’t have to be delivered

if you know his online log in details/ password you could log and and see what he wrote to the doctor 😂 sometimes with certain stuff like herpes / cold sores they want a picture

Well thats what I would do and I would print it out as well so he couldn’t lie

countrysidefields · 13/01/2025 16:38

I will speak to him before the results as it might be a few days before I can even get an appointment

I would keep my powder dry and do a little more digging . As others said he will just use the oh I had it years ago before we met and just had a flare up , didn't want to worry you etc etc excuse. Definitely photograph the package and label etc and do some more investigating before confrontation

That seems like it’s for a two week course on those dosage / numbers

So first painful outbreak?

I've had it so much I've been on different strengths etc

9tee · 13/01/2025 16:41

The fact that the medication was hidden does make it seem like it was for genital herpes, rather than something less embarrassing/suspicious.

You can get pack of I think 3 months for suppression
so you take maybe 2 a week ongoing and if it flares up you up the amount

KezzaMucklowe · 13/01/2025 16:42

I don't think the post saying talk to your husband is ridiculous as a pp pointed out.
It's good advice.
Op, you'll get lots of different advice on here, some better than others.
As another pp pointed out mumnet isn't the best place to come for perspective.
Lots of people on here forget thst you're a rl person, they get you anxious and worked up about an affair because they want a thread to follow.
By all means, go into a conversation with open eyes, take photos of the medication if you want, have a clear plan of questions, write them down if you think it will help.
Don't let people whip you into a mess on here though.
As pp have said the medication can be used gor viral rashes so hear him out.
