Herpes Medication found in my husbands bag

countrysidefields · 13/01/2025 16:10

I have just found empty packets of tablets from an online pharmacy box dated 17th dec 2024 for anciclovir in my husbands laptop bag.
All the empty packets and packing was also in the box, like it was hidden in there.
When I googled that medication it's used for genital herpes. He doesn't and never has had cold sores.
I am obviously thinking the worst seeing how it was hidden away. Please don't judge me, I wasn't actually looking on purposes, I happened to come across it.
Am I right to be assuming the worst?

well it doesn’t look great
but you need to speak to him

this issue aside… healthy marriage? no trust issues? never given you reason to worry?

PickAChew · 13/01/2025 16:13

It's also used for cold sores.

Figrollshavemylife · 13/01/2025 16:13

It's used for shingles too

Marriage is good as in we are generally happy, we have been together a long time so of course there has been the normal ups and downs.

Sex is an issue, for a while now we havnt had it and neither of us make the effort. I always thought we just got in a rut but this discovery has me thinking otherwise.

I was prescribed that for shingles.

Do you have suspicions?

countrysidefields · 13/01/2025 16:16

I did see when I googled it can be used for shingles and cold sores not just genital herpes but he has never had either cold sores or shingles and he would have told me if he had those or I would have known myself

Cold sores are the same virus so obviously could be used for that as well. But equally that would be bad to keep secret from you.

ForeverinBJ · 13/01/2025 16:19

I was prescribed avicloir for a viral rash

The strange thing is this was delivered from Superdrug pharmacy, the service you use online and the packing was all hidden in the box with the empty packets of tablets.
I'm thinking if it was something he wasn't ashamed of then wouldn't he just go to our usual doctors

long happy marriage
op - talk to him
mumsnet isn’t generally a good place for “perspective”

StormingNorman · 13/01/2025 16:21

You’re going to have to ask him OP. I’d love to come up with the not-so-obvious reason for having the medication, but I’m thinking the same as you.

If he had shingles, he’d have said.

You can get cold sores anywhere on your body so maybe he has one you haven’t noticed. Does he have a history of cold sores?

Has he had shingles?

I had shingles in Lockdown and was prescribed an antiviral drug- Can’t remember the name now, but shingles definitely aren’t genital herpes.

Hopefully it’s that.

( But strange he didn’t mention it to you if it was shingles blisters forming)?

I will speak to him, just maybe not straight away. I'm not a react straight away person I like to think it all through.

this thread will just muddy the waters and likely get you anxious before you’ve even spoken to him

couch2wtf · 13/01/2025 16:27

I had this for a skin issue - not herpes!

oakleaffy · 13/01/2025 16:28

I googled - Acyclovir is used to treat shingles, cold sores and chicken pox as well as genital herpes.
Strange he has multiple packs though.
GP normally only prescribed a short course of them.
