Has anyone else come off Twitter because of Musk?

I have refused to use it and closed it down as has my employer. Anyone else?

Oneofusisdead · 09/01/2025 11:58

Me too, my employer not yet.

sugarandplum · 09/01/2025 12:13

I came off since Musk took over as more and more of what was coming up was explicitly violent. I wasn't searching for this nor was there any reason for it to come up for me. All a bit weird tbh.

Tisthedamnseason · 09/01/2025 13:27

Not really specifically because of Musk, but I found it became more and more unusable. Half the tweets were ads or spam, or just totally unrelated to the hashtag I'd clicked on. And I was shown so much shit from people I didn't follow.

Yup. It's a cesspit now.

Lyannaa · 09/01/2025 13:38

I haven't been on there for years. I use Blue Sky instead, now.

TheWhalrus · 09/01/2025 13:39

I'm not on it but would have left by now if I was. My employer is still on it but we've just opened Bluesky accounts as well and will be using them.

Igotjelly · 09/01/2025 13:40

Yes I did, I couldn’t cope with the explicit and rampant violence and hate that was being constantly pushed.

MrsKwazi · 09/01/2025 13:43

I deactivated my acc after the us election

Appalonia · 09/01/2025 13:44

No, but I WAS suspended for ' hate speech' for saying 'Aimee Challenor' was a man ( as he is ), before Elon Musk bought it...

mindutopia · 09/01/2025 14:15

I haven’t deleted mine yet. But I don’t use them anymore. In my industry, people have long since stopped using it really. Lots of people migrated to Bluesky but I can’t even be asked with that.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/01/2025 14:15

I've never been on it

Shangrilalala · 09/01/2025 14:18

My daughter’s former (girls) school. I admired their stance and followed suit.

SalmonWellington · 09/01/2025 14:19

Bluesky is a good alternative.

ChewieChewieChewie · 09/01/2025 14:19

No. But admittedly it's a 'throwaway' account and I don't use it much, just when someone shares a link or I want to see something specific. Some people related to my interests post on there. I have no intention of leaving.

sweetheartyparty · 09/01/2025 14:21

I have deleted my app but not deactivated my account. I'm really disturbed by the reach of Elon Musk.
I have joined blue-sky as its closer as it feels closer to twitter in the early days when I loved it. X is awful now.

Rowansiskin · 09/01/2025 14:21

Yes, I deactivated my account this week.

EmmaMaria · 09/01/2025 14:23

I've never been on it because of - well it was Twitter!

fixingmylife · 09/01/2025 14:23

Yes, I deleted my account not long after Musk took over. I think we should all take a stance and delete our accounts. It's the way we vote with our feet against Musk.

Dogmatix34 · 09/01/2025 14:34

Not been on it since the election result

BodysBroken · 09/01/2025 14:50

Yes.

Menopausalsourpuss · 09/01/2025 15:14

I look at it now and then now and never did before as i knew KJK was banned, i never post and don't use for work. It was an eye opener for me about the court notes of the pakistani rape scandal and that info is not available elsewhere so think alot of people are not aware of the full horror as they would if it was reported on the BBC as it should be (and would be if races reversed). I will probably come off for a bit as is very negative and not good for my mental health.

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 09/01/2025 15:16

Yes, deleted it last weekend

AudiobookListener · 09/01/2025 15:17

Yes

minipie · 09/01/2025 15:19

Came off twitter ever since every single thread seemed just to be people vehemently agreeing with the original tweeter. And people disagreeing get blocked, or worse, abused and followed around onto other threads.

It’s a total echo chamber and a horrible influence on society.

user243245346 · 09/01/2025 15:19

No. I am not necessarily a fan of Elon Musk but I like free speech and to see different perspectives. Twitter/X is useful for that. It also allows free discussion on women's issues following the takeover by Elon.

Censorship of views you don't agree with doesn't make them go away - evidence shows it makes them stronger. Better to have the discussion.
