Has anyone else come off Twitter because of Musk?

I have refused to use it and closed it down as has my employer. Anyone else?

Yes, I came off it after the US election. I'm not a big user of FB (I just use it to keep in touch with old colleagues mainly) but I'm very tempted to just delete it.

mistyglissy · 09/01/2025 16:38

I wasn't on twitter / X for years now but if I were I would. Musk is acting like a total lunatic and he needs to shut the f up. It feels like things are getting really out of hand and that the adults have left the building. I am actually hoping that all these orbs being spotted in the skies are aliens come to save us from ourselves.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 09/01/2025 16:40

I just deleted my X account yesterday and unfollowed hundreds of people on Instagram. I don't want to give up social media altogether but I really want to cut down.

I still have an account but hardly ever go on now. It's gone from being a pleasant place to being a racist cesspit. I found myself getting tense and upset every time I went on. I'm on Bluesky which is a very calming space.

ForPearlViper · 09/01/2025 16:45

I have only ever had a twitter account to 'look at' rather than post on. When I was working I was responsible for our social media accounts and lived in terror of having a personal account then mixing the two of them up after wine!

It's got worse and worse. By and large, I manage to avoid the worst of the general fascism, misogyny and porn but I look at the site far less often. I also don't want to completely insulate myself from opinions that oppose mine.

Strangely enough, avoiding the tides of appalling content isn't the the straw breaking the camel's back - it is..... tennis. I am mystified at why the algorithm thinks I am a rabid tennis fan to the level of wanting to know every tiny bit of gossip about players. Anywhere it is possible to turn off tennis as an interest I have done so. I mark posts to say I am not interested (being careful not to open the posts). I block posters on tennis related issues. I can guarantee that if I open it now, half the posts on 'For You' will be about tennis. It is relentless.

Just to be clear, tennis is not a euphemism and I am not a tennis hater - I don't mind a Wimbledon final. Although, on reflection, I guess the algorithm could have arbitrarily decided I am passionate about much worse, given the sewer that is twitter/X!

Cloacina · 09/01/2025 16:46

@ForPearlViper I feel your pain. Mine thinks I'm totally fascinated by David Tennant. I'm really not.

AlphaNovemberAlpha · 09/01/2025 16:47

I deleted it when Musk took over. I abhor the man.

Only2WeeksToGo · 09/01/2025 16:48

I still have my account though I deleted the app and have stopped using. I'm using Bluesky now. I miss the humour of twitter as well as the breaking news but I'm hoping they will both pick up. I will delete X but with sadness for what it used to be.

BobnLen · 09/01/2025 16:51

I just looked at mine and 'for you' has just got the wildfires, the funeral and something about financial health so just news really, no sign of Elon

its2025allofasudden · 09/01/2025 16:57

I've an account - never used it, either to post or read. Will keep in on as I'd like to have a bit of wasted hard drive reserved in my name for no actual purpose.

I know of one large organisation that still, currently, uses X. To ditch it may cause large political ripples and upset that may bite them on the bum.

However they have set up parallel accounts with another social media provider so that they can transfer easily should it become necessary to do so.

Rory Clellan Jones & Sophie have ditched the bitch (no pun intended).

Cloacina · 09/01/2025 18:47

Love Rory and Sophie. 😍

Dogmatix34 · 09/01/2025 14:34

Not been on it since the election result

Same here.

PineappleCoconut · 09/01/2025 18:55

Still use it for reading breaking and local news. But don't post anymore. And blocked Musk because his tweets were infuriating.

Yes, I'm now on Bluesky.

BrickFinch · 09/01/2025 19:00

No. I tried Bluesky but it was full of little Hitlers rallying the troops against people who had the audacity to disagree with them, and even weirder, a load of “minor attracted person” sympathizers. So I’ve kept Twitter but I barely look at it these days to be honest.

The large majority of the British population aren't even on twitter.

ErinAoife · 09/01/2025 19:10

I stopped using twitter maybe 2 months after Musk took over. Because I was fed up t
Getting friend request(at least 20 days a day) never have any before that.

mambojambodothetango · 09/01/2025 19:11

Yes, the day he took over. I have to use it for work but can't bear looking at it now - it's just full of crap and anger.

HowardTJMoon · 09/01/2025 19:14

@Menopausalsourpuss let me guess - you pay for a bluetick, don't you?

CalicoPusscat · 09/01/2025 19:14

I've never used twitter.

Musk comes across as a rich prat so I tend to swerve anything he says.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/01/2025 19:21

It went downhill rapidly after Musk took over, and the constant Temu ads and unpleasant content nearly drove me off, but I can't look away now. It's a car crash.

HappyPanda613 · 09/01/2025 19:26

X as it is now has really solidified the argument against ‘Free Speech’ because that is what you get if you allow people to speak their mind on any issue without fear of recourse.

I have not yet signed up to Bluesky but everything I have heard about it appears wonderful, so hopefully they will keep on top of gatekeeping the right wing out and if it grows enough, I’d be happy to migrate on over.

Rollse · 09/01/2025 19:28

Appalonia · 09/01/2025 13:44

No, but I WAS suspended for ' hate speech' for saying 'Aimee Challenor' was a man ( as he is ), before Elon Musk bought it...

No need for quotes, that is hate speech. Transphobes are so silly.
