Has anyone else come off Twitter because of Musk?

I have refused to use it and closed it down as has my employer. Anyone else?

I wasn’t using it much as has been a cesspit for years.

Musk’s takeover gave me an excuse to flounce. So I did.

NecklessMumster · 09/01/2025 19:32

Yes

BurntBroccoli · 09/01/2025 19:38

I still have one but haven't logged in for a few weeks. No ad revenue!

I joined BlueSky a few months ago. More and more people coming on there now and they have developed trending topics. I was looking at the awful first hand experiences of the California wildfires this morning.

Came off it years ago. It's a cess pit.

I'm also surprised at how slow a lot of the major uk news outlets are to embrace Bluesky. The Guardian is all over it but the BBC is pretty absent. Is The Times on there? Haven't found it.

Probably because both of those post right wing content whereas Guardian is left wing.

Fluffyhoglets · 09/01/2025 19:45

Yes. Ages ago. Mainly because I was constantly getting attempts by 3rd parties to log into my account so I could see it wasn't a secure place to be anymore.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/01/2025 19:48

I came off it and advised All my clients to come off it pretty much as soon as he took over.

The Guardian being constantly community noted probably had something to do with it. Sad what it’s become.

I deleted my account in early 2023 because Elon Musk bought Twitter

I deleted my account not long after Musk bought it because my feed went down hill really quickly, and engagement dropped right off. I wanted to get out before it became the full on cess pit it is now. My workplace still have accounts, and I occasionally have to use the work accounts. Everyone who follows us now is a random scantily clad lady!
A professional organisation I'm a member of is actively looking for a new social media platform so they can transition across. Possibly to Blue Sky

Yes the algorithms changed completely and hardly anyone saw my posts anymore despite having 4K followers. Not that I did Twitter for followers, my interest became my main hobby and I really enjoyed interacting and learning from others.
Such a shame.

ClaredeBear · 09/01/2025 20:03

Yes. Took me a while as I had a long work history there and a decent number of followers but it wasn't getting any better.

spuddy4 · 09/01/2025 20:11

No I'm watching Starmer and trying to decide if he's been hacked or not. If not his PR team needs to tell him to tone it down and less of the 'my government' tweets.

PassMeThePineapple · 09/01/2025 20:13

I'd already left, but definitely made the right decision

RoaRiRi · 09/01/2025 20:14

Yep. Good riddance. Had a meeting with my marketing manager today as we've decided to keep the business account on X but the final post will direct people to Bluesky (whatever that is).

Adamante · 09/01/2025 20:18

No way. It’s way better now everyone who the activist employees of Twitter banned have been allowed back - Graham Linehan, Meghan Murphy, KJK etc.

loulouljh · 09/01/2025 20:27

Nope-am enjoying it all the more.

Fatloss · 09/01/2025 20:33

Yes - deactivated I only read along to comments on things like bake off but then there were less posts than before and other rubbish. I’m on Bluesky and there were some posts about the Pottery throwdown but not like Twitter used to be. (I’m also the threads here).

YearsofYears · 09/01/2025 20:38

I have an inactive account since Musk took over. I mainly used it for networking for my job but a lot of people had already stopped using it.
Not on Blue Sky, all social media seems to become toxic eventually. Don't want to invest time in it.

I think there was a relatively sweet spot between that sort of nonsense being corrected and the algorithms going completely bollocks plus every other tweet being Temu. Maybe 2023?

Agree with pp all social media seems to turn into a mess eventually.

abracadabra1980 · 09/01/2025 20:46

Yes-no idea whether the media is real or not. And Elon is an unhinged mechanic that needs to keep his nose out of politics.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/01/2025 20:49

I deleted it when Trump won. Interestingly, both my sleep and stress levels have improved significantly.

Efacsen · 09/01/2025 21:21

Not yet. Tho' don't often look at it anymore as the alogorithm serves me up a relentless diet of American football, only fans, weird japanese cartoon porn and yet more porn

Arlanymor · 09/01/2025 21:22

Came off it when he bought it - it was fairly clear where it was going to go. Submitted a paper to my Board last year with work suggestions to leave - we went for the middle ground and are monitoring but not actively participating.

ChilliMania · 09/01/2025 21:51

Im on BlueSky now. It is lovely.

LuluBlakey1 · 09/01/2025 21:54

I have started a BlueSky account and since his disgusting, insulting, vile posts to Ed Davey yesterday , I think that is the final straw for me. He is utterly disgusting and absolutely bonkers.
