I've been buying Waitrose Essential (9s) for about two years as I often get a pound off voucher. But the quality has deteriorated so I need a new bogroll buy. I used to buy Nicky. Is it still any good? Thankyou.

Thank you to all the Who Gives A Crappers on here. OH was convinced that I was the only one daft enough to spend so much on toilet roll despite me telling him it was good value for money. Now I’ve got proof that I’m not alone.
The Christmas paper wrapped ones more than paid for themselves as my youngest played with them for ages building them up to make different figures

Bought nine rolls in Sainsbury's for £4.00.

Has anyone else noticed that now the cardboard loo rolls are bigger, the paper pools on the floor half-way through using the roll. This never used to happen until the end of the roll.

Clean as a whistle. I'm just being nostalgic.

I know. I was just being facetious x

DON'T buy Who Gives a Crap - their toilet rolls are bleached and each roll is wrapped in bleached printed paper - all environmentally a problem.

There are other companies who provide boxes of unbleached and unwrapped toilet trolls etc. - e.g. Naked Sprout.

Steer clear of Who Gives a Crap - it is an environmental con!

Not according to their site - they don't use bleach:

Naked Sprout here. But it is a storage problem

I’ve had that in the past but the paper is brown and thinner than WGAC

CharlotteSometimes1 · 07/01/2025 20:15

Yep I’ve had Naked Sprout before it’s not as good as Who Gives a crap and looks shitty

To be honest, I don't really care about the colour. It may be thinner but it is quite firm so I don't see it as a disadvantage.

A friend has WGAC and I found them more expensive for having nicely wrapped individual rolls and the white paper.

EdithWeston · 07/01/2025 20:41

WGAC is an Aussie brand and its bamboo paper comes from China (where no doubt there is bamboo aplenty!)
Its (recycled) paper kitchen roll is UK made. I've no paper loo roll in the house to check where that was made.

I've just looked up Naked Sprout (bamboo bog roll, tissues and kitchen roll) and its all described as originating in Spain.

Neither are brilliant for product miles. Both are pretty good on other aspects of climate friendliness.

BornFreeButinChains · 07/01/2025 20:45

@TheTecknician I want to join you in the waitrose disappointment. It was my main buy from there and inevitably I'd get some other bits as well. Ocado is my main shop.
I won't be bothering anymore.

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 07/01/2025 20:50

Cushelle tubeless

Melroses · 07/01/2025 20:57

Another disappointed by Waitrose Essential.

We also get Aldi double strength now. It is similar to the new WR Ess but it is tidier and rolled up properly and doesn't unravel when you get it out the bag.

I came across some lovely stuff with ducks embossed on it in a restaurant. It isn't Little Duck though. One day I am going to have to go back and ask them 😬.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 07/01/2025 21:01

Cushelle Quilted Tubeless in this house. Seems to last longer than others, isn’t thin and weedy and most importantly there’s no cardboard tube so I don’t feel enveloped in a blinding white rage when I go to the loo and discover the tube just cast about or left forlornly on the holder.

Jennyjennyitsabox · 07/01/2025 21:29

Asda double rolls, nice and soft, and last for ages, they are quite fluffy though so create a bit of dust.

Nsky62 · 07/01/2025 12:52

Isn’t it fragranced?

Yes it is, but scent fades quickly once unwrapped & it doesn't stink your bathroom out thankfully. Doesn't irritate any of us either thankfully and my DH has sensitive skin

rewilded · 08/01/2025 07:54

The worst paper is from M&S.

CarlaH · 08/01/2025 08:58

We use Cushelle tubeless but the price is excessive.

Puzzling how their paper is so very white.....
And they have each roll in the box wrapped in a high quality printed paper ... no need for this at all.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 06/01/2025 18:33

Flushing it away?

We rinse ours, sellotape it together, iron it, and then roll it up again for a second pass, as it were.

(Oviously we use the reverse side.)

But if you've washed it, how do you know which is the reverse side??!

CouldItBeAnyMoreObvious · 08/01/2025 09:57

You could go retro and Romanesque by using a sponge on a stick!

Many French brands have no tube - marvellous idea, but not so good when there's a Blue Peter-esque gift to be made!

WhatHoJeeves · 08/01/2025 10:16

Can recommend Tiboo. It's a British company and we like their bamboo rolls better than WGAC. Plus they're cheaper which is a bonus and there's 10% off for subscriptions. Love the box just arriving on the doorstep and then not needing to think about loo roll for ages!

I do agree.

That's a good point. 👏

A side that has been used is much smoother and if one gently rubs it on one's cheek (face), with experience, one can tell.
We do this BEFORE sellotape it together as any piece that has had been used on both sides is discarded (We're not heathens!)

okydokethen · 08/01/2025 12:41

Who gives a crap are great, I now never run out and the order is flexible so you can delay delivery etc as suits.
