Loo roll - what is recommended these days please?

I've been buying Waitrose Essential (9s) for about two years as I often get a pound off voucher. But the quality has deteriorated so I need a new bogroll buy. I used to buy Nicky. Is it still any good? Thankyou.

I like the WGAC too. We ran out over Christmas and had to use andrex which was awful in comparison.

I do recognise it's expensive but it lasts much longer than supermarket brands. I might try the little duck and naked sprout brands recommended on here though...

Caspianberg · 07/01/2025 08:05

Wgac bamboo.

They aren’t that much more expensive as they have way more sheets per roll, plus each sheet is thicker so people tend to use less

Wgac Is 370 sheets per roll.
Waitrose rolls are 170.
little duck 166.

So you get more than double sheets wgac v little duck. Plus better quality.

WGAC sounds like something out of Family Guy.

I’m on an ongoing mission to find good loo roll that doesn’t pill, and that is a maximum of 2 layers. Our drains can’t cope with triple-layered sheets.

Snowmanscarf · 07/01/2025 08:34

Another vote for Costco Kirkland. The rolls seem to last a lot longer than other brands.

Who gives a crap

I use this too and get a subscription so never run out. Several family members have started doing it too. They invest in clean water for communities without access to it so it’s in a good cause, and the toilet roll is good quality.

TribulationPeriwinkle · 07/01/2025 08:49

Costco Kirkland is the biz. Soft on the tender parts but doesn’t disintegrate.

Agree, I thought bloody hell that's expensive at first, but when you do the maths the price per sheet is same or less than others and good quality.
For those who are interested in the environmental credentials it does come out as better in the various metrics (see link I posted at beginning of thread)

I was lucky when we went into first lock down as I'd just taken delivery of a box of 48 when the lock down got announced so I could stay away from the loo roll panic, lockdown was long lifted before I had to order again so they do last (family of four)

I might just get some Izal, for old times' sake. And some carbolic soap and paraquat while I'm at it.

Edited

I'm happy with this, soft enough, 2 ply and doesn't send dust flying everywhere

Costco own stand is cheapest and thickest best you get so much on a roll.

Can get on Amazon don't need a Costco card

Clean as a whistle. I'm just being nostalgic.

Sainsbury recycled all the way, Asda no longer do recycled. Morrisons recycled ok but pricier.

Flushing it away?

We rinse ours, sellotape it together, iron it, and then roll it up again for a second pass, as it were.

(Oviously we use the reverse side.)

😂

I thought my Who Gives a Crap subscription was an unnecessary luxury so cancelled it, bought Andrex and regretted it. Andrex rolls are much shorter so they run out very quickly, they shed fibres and just don’t feel good. Then MIL offloaded a huge pack of her beloved Nicky rolls - even worse then the Andrex, I know people love them but they’re much less soft. I’m giving them to my adult children who won’t care and re starting my WHAC subscription.

Oh that's useful to know. The packet I bought by accident seemed to smell strongly - really noticeable in the car on the way home, and very obvious smell in my (tiny) hall overnight. I didn't unwrap it though, maybe that was my error...

Yes it's a bit old fashioned rose type of perfume and initially I was gutted because I don't like perfumed loo roll or tissues etc especially this scent, but it does seem to fade very quickly.

ExtraDisorganised · 07/01/2025 11:01

We use Costco, it's a huge amount of plastic waste (each pack of 4 in plastic then the whole thing in another huge plastic wrapper) but it is good quality. Considering trying WGAC. Before we got our Costco card last year we used to always use Sainsburys Recycled which was good but I like buying in bulk.

Ophy83 · 07/01/2025 12:16

Aldi quilted unscented. Unfortunately they only seem to do the unscented in 9 packs

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/01/2025 12:39

I bulk buy BoxRoll made in the UK from UK resources for a UK company. Seems extravagant shipping stuff around the world for me to wipe my bum.

chattyness · 06/01/2025 17:59

I buy little duck supreme it's currently £5.50 for a 24 pack in tesco

Isn’t it fragranced?

Who gives a crap

Awful stuff

Mischance · 07/01/2025 12:59

DON'T buy Who Gives a Crap - their toilet rolls are bleached and each roll is wrapped in bleached printed paper - all environmentally a problem.

There are other companies who provide boxes of unbleached and unwrapped toilet trolls etc. - e.g. Naked Sprout.

Steer clear of Who Gives a Crap - it is an environmental con!

Mischance · 07/01/2025 13:01

Not trolls! - toilet rolls! 😂
