I've been buying Waitrose Essential (9s) for about two years as I often get a pound off voucher. But the quality has deteriorated so I need a new bogroll buy. I used to buy Nicky. Is it still any good? Thankyou.

Sainsbury’s double roll in the paper wrapping has been an unexpected pleasure to use for bum wiping and toilet cleaning in 2024. Would recommend!

Totally agree. It is £2.53 in my local Sainsbury's for 4 double rolls and it seems to last for ages. My other closest shop is Waitrose and the 4-pack for £2 is terrible value. The Sainsbury one in the paper wrapping is great. I'm going to stock up.

MichaelandKirk · 06/01/2025 21:09

To a PP. How do you return loo roll and what reason do you give??

Mum2jenny · 06/01/2025 21:12

I bought a Sainsbury’s double length one that was good, but then the next purchase of the ‘same’ was rubbish. So I’m unsure of what to buy next?

Little duck though it scented which annoys me, but I've never had a uti so figure I'm safe.

I was all ready to switch to Who Gives A Crap until I realised it's EXTORTIONATE!

Little duck is £5.50 for 24 roles
WGAC is £28 for 24 roles

How is that even justifiable?!

I think WGAC is manufactured in China so while it is recycled paper (I think) the cost of transporting it to the UK on the environment seems to offset this. Maybe that is why it is so expensive.

I had exactly the same experience. Sainsbury's are constantly changing their products which can be annoying. On the plus side, they seem to have improved their own brand aloe vera toilet roll (after it also went downhill so I stopped buying) so I've gone back to that. Until they change it again grrr.

reluctantbrit · 06/01/2025 21:22

Naked Sprout here. But it is a storage problem

2ndtimefinances · 06/01/2025 21:31

Another vote for Who gives a crap & the bonus is it's now sold in my local Waitrose (8 rolls to a packet)

Yes! This! It was OOS recently and I had to use the Co-ops own brand. Awful in comparison and went through a 9 pack in no time.

The 4 double roll pack lasts far longer than you think is feasible 😂

7inchesFromTheMiddaySun · 06/01/2025 21:39

WGAC is unreasonably expensive. And I actually didn't find it very soft either.

I'm finding that. It really seems to last and the quality is just right, to me.

Thankyou everyone. Our enthusiasm for ablution accessories is clearly limitless. I'm venturing out shopping tomorrow now there's slightly less lying snow so a bogroll bonanza beckons!

Is that the scented one? I had to return a large cheap pack last week because I founs the smell so strong and I've had recent UTIs. I was really indignant that thd cheapest ond was perfumed!

Yes it is slightly scented but it doesn't last long, I can't really smell it after it's been unwrapped and put away in the bathroom cupboard, luckily we've not had any reaction to it either

If this was to me, I hadn't unwrapped/opened it, I just took the full packet back to customer services and said I hadn't realised it was scented when I purchased and would like to return it. They didn't bat an eyelid. The smell was so strong I had no need to unwrap it!

Oh that's useful to know. The packet I bought by accident seemed to smell strongly - really noticeable in the car on the way home, and very obvious smell in my (tiny) hall overnight. I didn't unwrap it though, maybe that was my error...

Couchpotato3 · 06/01/2025 22:49

Naked Sprout - cheaper than WGAC and no pointless individual wrappers

I have WGAC for the downstairs loo when we have visitors coming... 😆

EasterIssland · 06/01/2025 22:57

I would like to try who gives a crap but buying 24 to test it sounds too much specially if it doesn’t work out

we use normally Andrex but used cushelle if offer was better

TheChosenTwo · 06/01/2025 23:06

We’ve used cheeky panda for a few years now. No plastic packaging although I’m sure it’s all imported. So I can’t claim a massive eco stance on it but it’s fine for us.
doesn’t tear, good sized sheets etc.
We were on holiday last week and the holiday house had WGAC and I hadn’t tried it in years, found it disappointingly not very soft, small sheets and it was used very quickly still stay loyal to my cheeky panda!
I buy 27 rolls on Amazon every 4 weeks, family of 5, often 6.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/01/2025 23:09

Do you mean Nicky Elite from Home Bargains ?

Yes, it’s excellent.

You can sometimes buy individual rolls in eco shops.

user5566774 · 06/01/2025 23:32

Another WGAC Bamboo fan here. We ran out over the holidays and I bought Andrex and couldn't believe how shit it was (pun intended) and how fast it ran out.

squaredreams · 06/01/2025 23:34

I also recommend who gives a crap.
Used them for years

As long as it's not coated in anything you should be free from any infection. That's my main concern (who had the stupid idea of coating it in shea butter? Bet it was a man!)

Or coconut, raspberry, vanilla fragrance..why? Doesn't it come away with one smell after usage!

Waitrose sells them in smaller packages.
