Anyone else watching? What a perfect way to while away an afternoon, swooning over Captain Von Trapp. Can't think how many times I've seen it but, if it's on TV, it must be watched!

For a romantic film there are a lot of Nazis.

Philandbill · 29/12/2024 18:01

There was a programme on BBC 2 this morning about Salzburg and The Sound of Music. It's probably on iPlayer. 😀

Are they the baddies?

RabbitsRock · 29/12/2024 18:06

Only realised it was on about 15 mins ago - my favourite film. And I always cry at the end.

Happily it's not them doing the romancing!

I love Christopher Plummer in this! 😋

I always lose it at edelweiss…

TotallyTwisted · 29/12/2024 18:16

Couldn't find it on TV so I had to Google the listing. "BBC One except Scotland" 😭 Thanks a lot, BBC!

CrushingOnRubies · 29/12/2024 18:17

The perfect Twixmas film with a cuppa and a mince pie.

My dog likes the whistling /calling to the children 🙄

Haha - my dog was roused from a deep sleep on the sofa next to me by just that too!

I have been to Salzberg. It’s lovely.. they do a SOM tour too.

SignificantSalamander · 29/12/2024 18:20

@MudpiesinEssex they are the baddies, but Rolf (the bf of the oldest daughter) becomes one.

TroysMammy · 29/12/2024 18:21

I'm watching it with the subtitles on so I can sing a long. I went to Salzburg many years ago and went on a Sound of Music tour and hopped up the Do Re Mi steps.

My niece's school is putting on The Sound of Music next year, she's a nun. I can't remember which one but I'm looking forward to it and when my niece calls over I can join her in singing the songs. It's like being in a permanent musical when I see her, one minute she's talking, the next she bursts into song.

I’m mid 60’s… ok, maybe a bit more…and I’ve never seen it!

Patienceinshortsupply · 29/12/2024 18:23

It was my Nan's favourite film and we always watch it over Christmas to keep her in our minds. Such a beautiful film. And Christopher Plummer remains very watchable Grin

It'll be on iPlayer as it's on BBC1 at the moment. Honestly, it's such a treat

Dh won’t have it on in the house. He’s from a country that was occupied, so he’s a bit funny about the idea of nazis bursting into song.

BadlydoneHelen · 29/12/2024 18:31

I don't think any of the Nazis do burst into song do they?

throwaway25 · 29/12/2024 18:34

They don't!

No.
Maybe they're thinking of "The Producers" and "Springtime for Hitler"?

RainbowWilf996 · 29/12/2024 18:39

One of my all times favourites I especially loved the goatherd song!!!!!!

fuzzylegs33 · 29/12/2024 18:39

Love it so much. Don't know why Captain Von Trapp has to goad Rolf at the end.

Sometimes when Dh pisses me off I like to sneer at him 'sometimes...I don't believe I know you.'

Also she's a baddie but the baroness is fabulous.

My late PILs went on a coach trip to Austria (including a couple of days in Salzburg) and they were the only ones on the coach who had never seen the film. This was thirty years ago.

her wardrobe is stunning! And except for not being natural with kids and planting the seeds that made Maria go back to the abbey she really isn't awful. She handles her fiancé very obviously thirsting over another woman, who is live-in staff, with exceptionally good grace in my book.
