I have attended many Christmas markets over the years. They are so crowded especially at the moment as German children finished school for the Christmas holidays. Frightening, my prayers are with all the victim's šŸ™

@ duncintoffee "how can you predict it/" One way of predicting it is if they post messages on social media saying ""Is there a path to justice in Germany without bombing a German embassy or slaughtering German citizens indiscriminately?". Another way of predicting it is if members of the public send in repeated messages to the police saying this guy is crazy and is going to kill to people. Little hints.

He wasn't posting these things when he was granted asylum in 2016, so how could it be predicted that he would commit murder in 2024?

But he was a Muslim immigrant who murdered five Germans and caused dread and misery to hundreds and thousands more. Is the correct response because this Muslim immigrant went so badly wrong we should respond by having more and more of them and hope it all works out okay? I am genuinely puzzled by the logic here.

But he isn't a 'Muslim immigrant' - he's an ex-Muslim/former Muslim - Muslim isnt an immutable ethnicity it's a religion like any other which people can leave eg ex-Catholic

Are white children in Nigeria less Nigerian than black children even if they go back several generations? It is an interesting question. I have lived in Africa for many years and most of my good black Nigerian friends thought that white children born in Nigeria were not Nigerian in the same way as they were. They always thought of and referred to the white children born in Nigeria as being somehow different and also not belonging as much and not having as much of a say in how Nigeria should run things as their own black children born in Nigeria. I am reporting exactly what they said they felt. Maybe they were very wrong but I understood their perspective.

Yes, they would have been very wrong. They would have been racist in their outlook. It's ridiculous that we are living in almost 2025 and we still judge by skin colour. If you're born in a country and you have that country's nationality, you should have exactly the same say as anyone else and be exactly the same level of national of that country as anyone else in the same position. So it doesn't matter about 'white English children'. Instead we should be looking at addressing the roots of the inequalities of opportunities that different groups face, and deal with them.

The man who attacked the Magdeburg market is clearly someone with major issues - around identity, race, culture, politics and possibly also mental health, though that remains to be seen. It's deeply ironic and sad that the AfD are now demonstrating, given that by all accounts he agreed with them.

dcbgr · 22/12/2024 17:40

Get the facts right. He was not a AFD-supporter. He liked a AFD anti-Islam post. It was not because he liked AfD, it was because he was crazed anti-Islam. He said on-line he was a leftist and also pro-Hammas.

PeasfullPerson · 22/12/2024 17:40

You can’t predict everything @dcbgr You have to balance things, otherwise you end up defeating the point of why you started in the first place.

Eat some vegetables, get some exercise, go to bed early, then you’re less likely to die from the most likely killers.

Why not just 'English children', or 'British children'? Why does skin colour matter so much to you? Are non white children somehow less 'English', even though they may be English going back many generations?

I’m white and I’m certainly not British or English. It was my understanding that you have British for these categories because English is an actual ethnicity

You keep saying this but honestly I've not seen either - can you link to a screenshot where he supports Hamas or demonstrates 'leftist' views

I have seen screenshots supportive of -
Israel and Judaism
Elon Musk
Tommy Robinson

@pointythings Thank you for the conversation. Do you think there is really no loss or no problem if all the, yes I will say it, white English just get displaced in their own country and replaced by people from other countries? And all that history and poetry and architecture is replaced by people who at best don't appreciate it and at worse resent it? Do you not feel any sympathy with native and indigenous peoples? Who had rich and valid cultures? I think Nigerians absolutely should be upset and annoyed if 500 million Chinese arrived and said this is our country now. London is one third white English people. It is a shame we no longer have a capital. The East-Enders, born within the sound of Bow Bells, were a funny, vibrant, interesting culture with a unique literature, accent - documented lovingly in plays and books. They are now extinct. The world lost something.

What do you think makes someone indigenous ?
I can trace my relatives back and some of my Great Grandparents came from Ireland.

If I go back further, well, we start going back to common ancestors, The Normans, Vikings and all manner of genes and ancestors from Europe.

You are concerned that white, indigenous people are being displaced by people from abroad.

What would you say makes someone native and indigenous?

He threatened different buerocratic institutions more than 20 years ago. So someone clearly fucked up here.
There will be an inquiry so lerts see what happens.

There is so much nonsense in your post that I can't even. It reeks of nativism - as a national of a country occupied by the Nazis, this disgusts me. Of course the UK has a capital. It's London. And it's full of vibrant, rich and interesting culture. If you want pure Englishness, there are lots of places where you can have that - Clacton springs to mind, as do parts of Lincolnshire.

And if a fifth generation descendant of immigrants says 'this is my country', I'm not going to argue with them - because I'm not racist and I don't care what colour they are.

@cakeorwine, what would you say makes someone indigenous? It is now thought that the first humans to arrive in North America came over the Bering Strait from Siberia around 13,000 years ago, just as lots of people in Yorkshire will be descended from the Vikings who took York in AD 866, and from the Romans before that who arrived in York in AD 71.

Who is indigenous in your opinion?

This is exactly the point @cakeorwine is making. Go back far enough and we all came from the African continent anyway.

My question was to @dcbgr

Personally, I think that ethnicity can get very confusing when we have so many ancestors and so many common ancestors - and you don't have to go back to far to see that.

When people say "where they come from", how far back are they talking and what does that mean really.

Thank you

That's a rather long live feed - skimming it I can see no screenshots of Taleb A's SM postings which is what I asked to see

I've just done a twitter search and found 2 posts referencing Hamas
-one makes no sense something about returning Hamas to Gaza /??
-the other is about his support for a one state solution - occupation of Gaza & W Bank

So I'm going to conclude that there's no evidence of him supporting Hamas or being a 'leftist'
