I have attended many Christmas markets over the years. They are so crowded especially at the moment as German children finished school for the Christmas holidays. Frightening, my prayers are with all the victim's šŸ™

And Palestinians (also mostly Sunni) hoping for Israel to annex the West Bank and Gaza which would extinguish any claims the Palestinians have.

He ranted against left wing Germans for the Islamicfication of Germany with no distinction between "sects".

He also posted a link to an extremely offensive AI video that alleges that the Prophet was homosexual.

He is a hateful, evil, racist person who carried out this atrocity.

High-skilled migration can be of value but importing criminals, misogynists, religious fanatics, the mentally-ill, the chronically sick, child-abusers, rapists, genocidaires and people who will never contribute more in tax than they receive in benefits seems to be an exercise in stupidity. Can we really afford our virtue-signalling?

It seems he agreed with you @dcbgr. That appears to be one of the reasons he did it - to protest against immigration of the 'wrong kind'.

dcbgr · 22/12/2024 16:11

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Because a crazy person thought importing misogynist Jihadists was a bad idea, doesn't mean I have to think importing misogynist Jihadists is the best thing since sliced bread. Hitler loved dogs, was a vegetarian and good with children. Being against the holocaust doesn't mean I have to hate pets, love animal cruelty and be nasty to kids.

My issue with the murderer is not that he was against Islam or against vast, unplanned migration. My issue with the murderer is he killed five people, ruined the lives of hundreds of families for ever, and is part of the horrible process that is making life more scary and worse for millions of Europeans who never asked for, wanted, or needed mass immigration of people from completely different countries and cultures who cost more than they contribute to national economies (as shown by now several studies in Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden) and have now made English schoolchildren a minority of pupils in school in England.

You have any links to these reports?

I’m not twisting anything. Two sides to every story.
Doesn’t make a lot of sense that someone so anti Islam would target a traditional German market where there would be few Muslims present šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

He appears to have been anti-German as well.

And a nutter

Do these murderous men need a reason? I get fed up with trying to dignify these men with a cause. They are murderous nutters. That is it.

DuncinToffee · 22/12/2024 16:32

White English children Hmm

dcbgr · 22/12/2024 16:34

Do you have a problem with black Nigerian children? or brown Indian children? I don't. Nor do I have a problem with white English children.

Why not an underground?
A bus
A pop concert
A festival on an island

There are many terrorist attacks that have been carried out on public venues where a lot of people are, including Christmas markets.

What makes you think that the motivation for this man was to target Christians rather than targetting the Germen people?

Because it would be hard to drive your BMW through any of those.

It really could be as simple as the largest outdoor gathering with densely packed crowds that happens where he lives

dcbgr · 22/12/2024 16:41

And if Nigerians were to complain because foreigners had moved into their country and made them a minority, or if American Indians were to complain that English had moved into the country they loved and owned and took care of and made them a dispossessed, minority with high rates of poverty, addiction, and mental illness, I might actually have some sympathy for them and not just be disgusted with their lack of appreciation for diversity.

Why not just 'English children', or 'British children'? Why does skin colour matter so much to you? Are non white children somehow less 'English', even though they may be English going back many generations?

dcbgr · 22/12/2024 17:14

Are white children in Nigeria less Nigerian than black children even if they go back several generations? It is an interesting question. I have lived in Africa for many years and most of my good black Nigerian friends thought that white children born in Nigeria were not Nigerian in the same way as they were. They always thought of and referred to the white children born in Nigeria as being somehow different and also not belonging as much and not having as much of a say in how Nigeria should run things as their own black children born in Nigeria. I am reporting exactly what they said they felt. Maybe they were very wrong but I understood their perspective.

PeasfullPerson · 22/12/2024 17:24

Perhaps it would better to concentrate on our bigger problems and ignore the racists who use hideous events like this to whip up fear and hysteria.

While what happened is really scary, we’ve all got much more chance of being killed by something mundane like heart disease, cancer, influenza, pneumonia or Alzheimer’s.

Just because this event might grab people’s attention and take up space in our brains, it doesn’t mean that’s where our focus should be. Just because the person who committed the offence may look different from you, it doesn’t mean that they committed the offence because they are somehow something other than you, as comforting as that is to believe.

Plus, comparatively less security, ease of access, ease of scouting out routes, an understanding of the additional trauma caused by choosing such a target...

dcbgr · 22/12/2024 17:28

@ peacefullperson saying wtf cares. Indeed. We should never pay attention to predictable, avoidable disasters for which our elected officials are directly responsible. Instead we should .... look a squirrel!

This is a teachable moment as was Southport and Rochester - if we don't learn from it we deserve to go down inglorious to a bad old night.

Scirocco · 22/12/2024 17:31

The response to an attack by an anti-Muslim, anti-immigration perpetrator probably shouldn't be to further his cause by spreading more hate against Muslims and immigration. That just gives him what he wants.

dcbgr · 22/12/2024 17:34

But he was a Muslim immigrant who murdered five Germans and caused dread and misery to hundreds and thousands more. Is the correct response because this Muslim immigrant went so badly wrong we should respond by having more and more of them and hope it all works out okay? I am genuinely puzzled by the logic here.

My comment was in relation to "It's hardly a stretch" when asked why people thought it targetted Christians because a Christmas market was targetted.

I posted examples of where people in the UK, the USA and Europe had been targetted. Where these examples were Christians had specifically been targetted or where people living in those countries had been targeted.

DuncinToffee · 22/12/2024 17:34

Predictable, avoidable disasters

How do you predict that a person will do these?

He wasn't a muslim immigrant, he was an atheist refugee who was granted asylum

dcbgr · 22/12/2024 17:36

@ duncintoffee "how can you predict it/" One way of predicting it is if they post messages on social media saying ""Is there a path to justice in Germany without bombing a German embassy or slaughtering German citizens indiscriminately?". Another way of predicting it is if members of the public send in repeated messages to the police saying this guy is crazy and is going to kill to people. Little hints.

He wasn't Muslim.
And while there should be a discussion about Immigration maybe there should be a discussion about right wing extremism too.
He was a AFD-supporter after all.@
