I have attended many Christmas markets over the years. They are so crowded especially at the moment as German children finished school for the Christmas holidays. Frightening, my prayers are with all the victim's šŸ™

This man had an enormous amount of stored up rage and he felt the need to vent it by killing and maiming people. He chose this venue because there were a large amount of people gathered in one place.
He wanted to kill as many birds as possible with the one stone.

@Menopausalsourpuss

"I am 56 and don't remember there ever being an issue with young male illegal migrants until the last 20 or so years (and none of these sort of attacks either - the world was much safer). "

It's simply due to numbers of immigrants.

From 1980 to 2000 average annual net immigration was around 50k people per year coming into the UK which is easy to absorb and provides a net benefit to the economy by quickly providing hard to fill roles etc.

However over the last decade it has been over 300k per year and in the last three years over 800k per year. That roughly the population of Newcastle or Liverpool every year.

With more people means statistically that there will be more crime involving immigrants. As well of course adding pressure on infrastructure, housing, healthcare, education etc.

You are writing as though we have no say in the numbers migrating here. They have to have visas. It was a conscious decision from Tony blair onwards (as was bombing middle eastern countries). Other countries like Poland decided not to allow mass migration from Muslim countries and have no barriers everywhere as no terrorism.

I actually think people should be deported and their citizenship should be revoked if they commit serious crimes.
However you can't deport people to countries where they will be killed even dangerous criminals. Otherwise we could just execute them here. Would be cheaper too.

Of course you can if you put your own citizens safety before that of murderers and rapists.

Yes. I don’t understand why they do this. It’s not surprising people think they have nefarious motives to leave their women behind to fester and suffer.

In a patriarchal society women and children are considered mere possessions, the more the men are able to dominate the more this will be the case.
When they are fleeing for their lives they leave the women in children behind for the same reasons that you and I would leave our CD collections and knickknacks behind if we were fleeing for our lives.
Women are not important in and of themselves they are merely there to facilitate the lives of men. That's why they are left behind, they do not matter, the men are the real people.

Agree . Also genuinely wondering now will many Syrians want to move back home & start rebuilding their country. Many seems so excited & happy with the end of the old regime , all the newspaper reports & TV interviews seem to suggest that the Syrians living in Europe are very happy now & feel the horizon is bright for Syria.

I think if they are happier and integrated in the west then no issue.
If they dislike western culture then they should go back.

Yes . Like many before him , he turned on the country that gave him asylum in his time of need. Hundreds of plots have been uncovered this year alone.
Europe is under attack from within.

These are typically people with a fixed and conservative mindset. They will not return to their country of origin if Western culture is not to their liking, rather they will try to make Western culture conform to what they believe is right and proper.

Because of their mindset it will not occur to them that the things which attract them to Western culture are possible because (compared to their culture of origin) we are open-minded and liberal.

Yes I agree with this. They need to be integrated & happy with western culture.
They cannot expect Western culture to adopt to what they want.

I might be unpopular saying this but if that’s the case, why are they granted asylum in countries where this view is not accepted.
I don’t particularly like men who feel they are superior to a woman. There’s enough Western misogynistic ā€˜men’ who hold this view. Why are we adding to it when we should be doing our upmost to deter it.

We know the Taliban do not allow women leave the house without male chaperones, they can't speak in public, cannot get an education, cannot train as nurses or midwives any longer.
Surely their male family members need to stay with their female family members to ensure they can leave the house?

Maybe not all family members leave? Maybe leaving the weaker ones behind to ensure you can safely get out and send money to help? 50% of refugees worldwide are female, so maybe they just don't make it here. If you want to know maybe just talk to a refugee they are not all hidden islamic terrorists.

It's funny as many expect western culture to change to exactly what they are supposed to be fleeing their home countries from. There was a huge march this year in Germany calling for a caliphate & sharia law.

I can't fully answer your questions, but as you say there are numerous men in western cultures who believe that they are superior to women, although we are relatively progressive the needs and wants of men tend to predominate. Presumably they don't see it as much of a problem šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I think it was more where it was rather than flag waving.
Why flag wave a Syrian flag at a Christmas market. Slightly inappropriate and unnecessary.

Why is it inappropiate? Joyous ocassion celebrated with other joyous occasion.
I've even been to a christmas market where they had a rainbow Flagge nobody had a problem.

And no I don’t think you’d leave weaker ones behind. I can only speak for myself but I would die alongside my kids rather than leave them to suffer alone.

Edited

I think this is to do with being religious and closed minded, they do not feel comfortable with & cannot adapt to Western values. This means that they follow their impulses to act in accordance with their own culture of origin.

As long as people act according to the law people can have whatever mindset they.
I might argue that seeing women as lesser is against "Western" culture or not paying CMS but judging by so many posts on MN with useless husbands/ex-husbands it seems other people hold different vielseitig.
Maybe we should deport these guys (I just don't know where to)

And yet this is an established pattern of human migration escaping war and famine probably for millennia - fit healthy young men seeking a place of safety before bringing the women and children to join them

Difficult to change that IMO

Yes, young men ditching their communities and never looking back you mean. So wonderful … as everyone should know by now, the Titanic was a one-off. Most men will shove women and children aside in the attempt at escape.

Rainbow flag is a symbol of pride in being gay. Very western and a large percentage of the be celebrating Christmas, some will be religious.
Mark your joyous occasion by all means but have a bit of awareness that not everyone GAF about the Middle East and maybe go enjoy it somewhere not to do with Christmas.

Look at the way males now feel entitled to enter female spaces, sports teams , toilets, saunas , changing rooms.
Women are being oppressed here too & when we dare complain that we would like our spaces male free we are called bigots or transphobic .

Many Christmas markets actually have gay Christmas markets like the pink one in Frankfurt. Open to all & great fun.

Mostly UK geezers dodging responsibility. Dunno if it’s the same in Germany.
Deport misogynistic cretins yes. Unfortunately if they are native it’s not so easy.

But why come here then knowing the west is liberal & not a good fit for their lifestyles . And why are the west accepting them as they know they despise our culture?
It makes no sense.

I can guarantee I’d be staying with the kids.
I can’t respect any man fleeing war and leaving his family behind.
