I have attended many Christmas markets over the years. They are so crowded especially at the moment as German children finished school for the Christmas holidays. Frightening, my prayers are with all the victim's šŸ™

I feel sorry for any Muslims reading this shit show of a thread. A far right anti Muslim man commits a horrible crime so people turn the thread into an anti Muslim thread. You couldn't make it up.

Rainbow flag is a symbol of pride in being gay. Very western and a large percentage of the be celebrating Christmas, some will be religious.
Mark your joyous occasion by all means but have a bit of awareness that not everyone GAF about the Middle East and maybe go enjoy it somewhere not to do with Christmas.

When I went to Church on Christmas Day the priest always prayed for the end of wars all around the world. I'm pretty sure he would think celebrating that is christmassy.

CinnamonClovesBrownVelvet · 22/12/2024 13:36

@TinklySnail I don't know if that difference in view points was considered when Merkel said she would welcome everyone.

Has Merkel been assaulted or made to feel uncomfortable by the opposite sex?

We still have a mountain to climb when it comes to equality in the UK. Why import millions of young men from counties with a medieval mind set? It's taken centuries to get where we are.

We should all be taking in refugee of box sexs and making sure we have resources for all and laws of the land laid down.

No, that’s what clergy do. They pray for peace but rarely get involved in the cause.
And no it’s not Christmassy. If they were donning Santa hats and tinsel singing carols and not Islamic slogans then they would have appeared a bit more Christmassy.

Well said

As someone posted well upthread there are certain parties very keen to distance themselves from this man's heinous actions and apparent political affiliations - and blame islamists who are polar opposites politically

Actually saw this clip on twitter - no 'rampaging' evident but a large group of men and women mainly waving the 'new' 3 starred Syrian flag walking thro' the closed Christmas market in Essen

It has been widely re-purposed by the right as something negative

.

Edited

It's fucking rude to do that at a Christmas market, antisocial, negative and provocative. People don't want loudly chanting flag waving men at a Christmas market, same as football hooligans marching around would be unwelcome. It's completely tone deaf and disrespectful of people who want to enjoy themselves.

Christmas markets are places of fun, peaceful, sociable experiences in the lead up to Christmas. Maybe not in the Uk where it's mostly commercial, but certainly in the rest of Europe.

While most visitors to Christmas markets today may not be active Christians, the tradition is closely tied to Advent and the coming of Christ. Looking further back, midwinter was celebrated as part of the Yule festival in many parts of Europe. The Anglo-Saxons marked the solstice with feasts to encourage the return of the sun, often including roasted meats, ale, and other traditional foods.

Pre-Christian winter festivals were communal events celebrating the return of light, with feasts, music, and entertainment. This sense of community celebration lives on in Christmas markets, where visitors enjoy seasonal treats, hot drinks (mulled wine), and festive foods, many of which have their origins in traditional midwinter feasts. Christmas markets have strong roots in these ancient solstice celebrations, they simply evolved from them.

So attacking a Christmas market is essentially attacking European culture as it has evolved over thousands of years. It's nothing to do with religion and all to do with culture and location. That psychiatrist killer is either a sleeper and has faked his anti muslim activities (doubtful) or he is a crazed terrorist who thought it's ok to attack the country that has given him a sanctuary, a calculated hateful, arrogant murderer, and evil crazy evil man who murdere people because he didn't get his own way. He's definitely a terrorist. Hope he rots in hell.

Absolutely. It’s hard enough eradicating it from society without more men arriving that believe it is their right to subjugate.

How do you know he’s a ā€˜far right anti Muslim’ and not a case of taqiyya?
If Muslims want to post and tell us their views they are welcome to. It’s a discussion. No one has to like what’s being discussed and people can express differing opinions.

If his twitter was full of anti west rhetoric and he was mutuals with Islamic extremist you wouldnt be asking how do you know he is an Islamic extremist. It's your bias that is causing you to want to twist things to suit your narrative.

And yet this is an established pattern of human migration escaping war and famine probably for millennia - fit healthy young men seeking a place of safety before bringing the women and children to join them

Difficult to change that IMO

Is it also an established pattern of human migration escaping war and famine probably for millennia - fit healthy young men seeking a place of safety and then actively and gleefully attacking their new home and making it less safe for everyone?

cakeorwine · 22/12/2024 13:56

Treetops11 · 22/12/2024 13:00

Also with the creation of smart phones & children accessing them radicalisation has never been easier. As we saw with the foiled plot in Vienna back in the summer.

I would agree with that.
The internet makes it very easy to spread false information and to have a curated view of things that helps people reinforce their beliefs and their view of the world.

It's easy to read things, see things and interpret things to help reinforce a particular belief and it's very easy for people to become radicalised to particular viewpoints.

Education, critical thinking, challenging your own beliefs, looking for things in common and slowing down and thinking about why you think the way you do is a good thing to help reduce divisions.

Mrsbloggz · 22/12/2024 13:59

Treetops11 · 22/12/2024 13:27

But why come here then knowing the west is liberal & not a good fit for their lifestyles . And why are the west accepting them as they know they despise our culture?
It makes no sense.

I'm not sure, perhaps it's for similar reasons that people in the UK go abroad but still want to eat English food?
They want to come here because they see it broadly speaking as a better life and that incentive eclipses thoughts of any drawbacks?

I’m not twisting anything. Two sides to every story.
Doesn’t make a lot of sense that someone so anti Islam would target a traditional German market where there would be few Muslims present šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

There's a considerable amount of information available that points towards him hating Islam and Muslims, as well as spreading far right views and conspiracy theory views. He was previously flagged and (presumably inadequately) considered as a potential threat by authorities.

Also pro-Israel and pro-zionist content - unusual from an islamic extremist

You need to ask who has benefitted from this atrocity except the far right who are portraying him as just another muslim extremist [whilst desperately trying to draw a veil over his right wing credentials]

dcbgr · 22/12/2024 14:08

German substacker writes "At 7:07pm yesterday – three minutes after the 7:04 pm attack – al-Abdulmohsen posted four videos to his Twitter account in which he appears to expand upon his motivations. These videos frequently border on incoherence and suggest that the man suffers from paranoia and other psychiatric problems. Some years ago, female Saudi refugees to Germany, who left Islam, were supported by an NGO who housed them with a male employee whom these women accused of sexual harassment or abuse. Al-Abdulmohsen spent years demanding that German police investigate, and when nothing happened he developed a murderous rage, concluding that ā€œthe citizens of Germanyā€ were collaborating to persecute ex-Muslim Arabs in service of a broader plot to Islamise Europe." Seems to be the best explanation on the internet at the moment, though others claim he was a Jihadist sleeper. The murderer himself claimed to be a leftist on-line although he did 'like' AfD anti-Islam tweets. My best guess is he was crazy, anti-Islam, dangerous, not a genuine case for asylum and should never have been in Germany in the first place.

Flag waving political activists at a Christmas market? Na, they can fuck right off with that drama lama attitude. If they however wanted to join in the Christmas fun, buy food and connect with the cultural occasion, they are welcome. When in Rome......No flags please and no police chants, it's rude, thanks.

There is evidence he tweeted anti Islam statements.
He was a ā€˜known atheist and helped Muslims flee their home country.’
Yet he is anti Islam. Was he vetting those he helped flee? Perhaps it was only those who were wanting to denounce Islam, perhaps not. I’m sure we’ll discover more about it soon enough.
It’s contradictory to be so anti Islam that he attacked a traditional German market. Why not somewhere that was dominated by Muslims?
Maybe he hated Germany maybe he didn’t.
It’s not bias or bigotry to look at all perspectives.
