Words you don't like

With thanks to @DebbieTheCat for the inspiration, how about a list of the words you really can't be doing with?

Top of my list would be "problematic" - the whole beige, head-tilted, be kind-ness of it just annoys me!

Secretary being pronounced as 'sec-a-tary' does my head in.

That's a new one for me, what's it supposed to mean?

Anything from Vicky Pattisons mouth - worst Geordie accent ever.

You've obviously never been to Scotswood!

It means putting a bill in a folder. Some people want a medal for doing this.

My usual contribution to these threads: journey, unless it involves actual travel.

MammaTo · 12/12/2024 12:47

Triggered - which is ironic really.

Snowandtinsel · 12/12/2024 13:03

When someone spells something out that starts with 'h' and says 'Haitch' instead of 'aitch' makes me twitch (primary school teacher who teaches phonics daily).

All swear words.
Flavourfull !?
To speak "around" a topic instead of about it.
Misinformation and disinformation.

Hubby (and Hubs for that matter) and Hun - they just sound how you talk to a child.

Safeguarding and soft play are words that make me feel like screaming. Though fortunately I only ever see/hear them in mumsnet.

soft play sounds like something a prostitute would do with a client in need of viagra.

Safeguarding? Why? What word would you use instead?

Whattodointherain · 12/12/2024 13:12

Little ones

TheTecknician · 12/12/2024 22:49

Does 'drinky-poos' grate with anyone? I have little opportunity to say it aloud but I certainly think it.

Tittat50 · 12/12/2024 23:16

Stunning
Moist
Vagina
Sloppy
Penis

There's a time and a place where I just adore the word c*nt. (You either love it or hate it)

I say ' little ones ' all the time 😆. Just saw that. It's sometimes to cover up my terrible memory problems ref other kids' names.

Bambooshoot · 13/12/2024 02:10

Any time a singular is used when it should be plural - “a red lip” “a nude heel” “a trouser”.

Also “cuppa” - awful word.

Spidey66 · 13/12/2024 02:24

This is not going to go down well here but vulva sets my teeth on edge. I don't know why, but I hate it. Not that I have to use it much but I prefer to use genital area (to a HCP), or informally my fanny, my privates 'down there' or my nether regions.

TheTecknician · 21/12/2024 12:15

It's not a word but 'PJs' as in pyjamas. Grrr! Just say the word! 'Jammies' is almost as contemptible.

Milf (feel its degrading when a guy calls me that)
Baby (when a partner calls you that)
Baby girl (when a partner calls you that)
Yummy mummy (men describe you as that)
Moist ( just makes me cringe)

TheTecknician · 21/12/2024 12:43

I used to work with a girl who disliked 'moist'. She would visibly cringe if someone said it, even inadvertently.

When someone on here describes someone as ‘rank’. I always think it makes them sound as common as muck

derxa · 21/12/2024 18:13

Describes SOMETHING as rank
