Words you don't like

With thanks to @DebbieTheCat for the inspiration, how about a list of the words you really can't be doing with?

Top of my list would be "problematic" - the whole beige, head-tilted, be kind-ness of it just annoys me!

OP posts:

Amateur, but only when some tool pronounces it 'amma-chur'. Otherwise it's a grand word.

Menopause is awful. Perimenopause makes me think of Perry Como going through the change.

Pollydollydoodle · 11/12/2024 11:18

"Yous" or worse "use" as in a description of other people.

TheTecknician · 11/12/2024 11:41

Can I please add:

Sustainable

Crazy

Insane

These three words are everywhere these days. They'll be clichés by January.

namechangeGOT · 11/12/2024 11:43

Yummy
Panties
Vulva
Labia
Gash
Succulent

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 11/12/2024 11:43

I hate pud for pudding and chocs or choccy for chocolate. Especially on Mumsnet, when “posh chocs” are suggested for any occasion! I don’t know why, I just hate it.

BillStickersWillBeProsocuted · 11/12/2024 11:44

Only the 6th post but I'm surpised Moist isn't there already!

Parratha · 11/12/2024 11:46

diversity

Shatandfattered · 11/12/2024 11:48

Gash Gooch minge moist all in line with one theme lol, I'm sure there's more mundane ones.

BraveBlueDuck · 11/12/2024 19:53

Any word that has a Th which people pronounce as F. Drives me insane, sorry @TheTecknician

My partner is bad for it, will say Bath as Baff or Thursday as Fursday. Infuriating! Over 8 years together and I've not yet got him to change but I'm determined.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 11/12/2024 19:54

Par-boiled.

It’s because of a whole thing with my dad that I can’t get into.

BraveBlueDuck · 11/12/2024 19:56

Babe, it's childish and sounds ridiculous
Fanny.

There's probably more but I can't think of any off the top of my head

Thevelvelletes · 11/12/2024 20:36

Moreish..it annoys the fuck out of me.

MiddleAgedDread · 11/12/2024 20:38

Fabby (it makes me cringe)

hattie43 · 11/12/2024 20:47

Portabella · 11/12/2024 20:47

Londoneye20 · 11/12/2024 20:49

Could the use of Markies be a local thing that's the common name for it in Aberdeen.

whirlyhead · 11/12/2024 20:50

Safeguarding and soft play are words that make me feel like screaming. Though fortunately I only ever see/hear them in mumsnet.

soft play sounds like something a prostitute would do with a client in need of viagra.

DebbieTheCat · 11/12/2024 20:59

Hi 😸👋

@Shatandfattered minge is on the liked words list 😅

I dislike hubby and hun.

LaPalmaLlama · 11/12/2024 21:01

Poorly

I don’t know why. It just makes me shudder.

Peri-meno for extra science

Pampering makes me want to heave

Baby talk - choccies, veggies, yummy, scrummy

Dreary 50s speak - hubby, poorly, picky, dear and love as terms of endearment

Instahun - hun, gorge, insane (it's insanely creamy - wtf)

Words I was taught were c--n - toilet, serviette, settee, tea for dinner, dinner for lunch - I think it's bollocks but it still grates (I blame my mum)

mental healthology - triggered, trauma - when used for things that are actually just annoying or mildly upsetting

I say darling and cunt a lot though, which lots of people hate

SpeculatingRooks · 11/12/2024 21:31

Belly
Queasy
Supper
Meal
Dish

Don't know why they are all food based words

Christmaseason · 11/12/2024 21:32

Moron

ByHardyAquaFox · 11/12/2024 21:45

Surely.

DebbieTheCat · 11/12/2024 21:48

Apt for this time of the year - crimbo.
