Words you don't like

With thanks to @DebbieTheCat for the inspiration, how about a list of the words you really can't be doing with?

Top of my list would be "problematic" - the whole beige, head-tilted, be kind-ness of it just annoys me!

don’t know why, makes me shudder. Even more so when restaurants use it on menus, I just can’t.

Don't know why they are all food based words

I was coming to say meal. Can’t stand it

I also hate nourishing and nutritious

GinJeanie · 11/12/2024 22:39

"Pooped" for tired.

A relatively new boyfriend once wrote this in an email and I almost couldn't get past it. I didn't tell him as we were in the first flush of our relationship.

Safeguarding and soft play are words that make me feel like screaming. Though fortunately I only ever see/hear them in mumsnet.

soft play sounds like something a prostitute would do with a client in need of viagra.

Oh god yeah..softplay. And playdate.
They are awful words. Give me the willies.

Manchesterbythesea · 11/12/2024 22:43

Oh and tummy. Especially when a whingey brat says it. ‘I have a sore tummy’ or ‘my tummy hurts’ in a whingey babyish voice makes me want to commit murder.

I hate pud for pudding and chocs or choccy for chocolate. Especially on Mumsnet, when “posh chocs” are suggested for any occasion! I don’t know why, I just hate it.

Your post made me realise I hate the word 'posh'.

HansHolbein · 11/12/2024 22:46

MuddyPawsIndoors · 11/12/2024 22:50

'Frock'.

I bought a beautiful dress once and my MIL said, "Oh what a lovely frock".

I immediately wanted to rip it off and burn it 🤣🤣

I don't know why, but it conjures up and image for me of old fashioned frilly dresses.

MrsMitford3 · 11/12/2024 22:50

I have come to loathe the word "Myself" which in itself is inoffensive but the misuse is so widespread it infuriates me-such as:

Give that to john and myself
tom and myself were asked to come early
susie and myself are opening a business

Myself is often used where "me" or "I" goes and I don't know how it happened but it's so prevalent now

Huonneyywisshful · 11/12/2024 22:53

I can’t bear the word intimacy. I have no idea why. Vulva is a horrible word and penis isn’t much better.

I also hate hubby, holibobs, making memories and all those kinds of things.
