Who has this virus? Like a bad cold on steroids

I think this is Day 8 and it's never ending. I usually pick up after day 3 of a head cold but this just seems to be gathering momentum. Sneezing, nose either congested or running like a tap even at 2 am.

I teach and had a rubbish week last week but I think I will have to phone in sick if I'm not feeling better by this time tomorrow.

I think I might be getting it. I've got a cracking headache and feel awful.

Vergus · 15/12/2024 11:47

It’s bloody bastard flu, that’s what it is

Thegrassroots26 · 15/12/2024 12:08

Glad some people feel they are on the mend. Four weeks today for me.
Very weak still and can’t do much. Still mostly sofa bound, trying to stay out of bed, but did spend the day mostly sleeping yesterday.
Still quite achy and nauseous. Cannot believe how long this has gone on or how bad I’ve felt. Physically and mentally one of the hardest times I’ve had I think - and I’ve had some tricky times…

well wishes to all for a Xmas miracle of health 💐

I've got horrid sores on the roof of my mouth, I'd assumed it was the doxycyline but perhaps it's the virus....

Thanks for the sinus massage tips, that's really helped my headache this evening. I've felt horribly stuffy headed all day.

I think it's the virus. I had a huge mouth ulcer and incredibly sore tonsils

I hope you feel better soon.

I went out last night - only the second time I'd left the house in three weeks (the first was over a week ago – a walk to the shops when I thought I was getting better. That took two days in bed to recover from!)

I had a great night out with DH but was feeling clammy and feverish with sore throat and shivery symptoms by the time we got home, and we had to leave the gig before the encore as I was feeling faint.

Three weeks so far. The exhaustion bugs me most now.
In case it helps anyone - I'm finding Berocca multivitamin fizzy tablets are helping as I don't have much appetite. Dissolved in a big glass of iced water, they help with rehydration too - important if your nose is streaming.
And Vitamin D spray daily. All this time inside means no Vitamin D.

Holdingspace · 15/12/2024 14:23

I’ve tried tumeric tablets today for the joint pain. It’s what I can only imagine arthritis to feel like. Truly awful 😞

Thanks. Yeah exhaustion is my worst symptom now, I just don’t have energy to function properly or do life… it’s so upsetting. Appetite is also horribly messed up. I just want to feel normal again 😞

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 15/12/2024 17:34

I had a weird thing just now. Had a sort of low level headache on and off and felt dizzy and just forgetful and not myself.
Bent down to pick up washing and all this clear sticky salty stuff came out of my nose in a big gush (sorry if tmi).

Very odd sensation

MrsSethGecko · 15/12/2024 21:50

@LittleMissLateForWorkAgain that happened to me too a couple of times- once at work which was delightful.

I've actually felt alright today. Not very strong and not very energetic, but alright.

‘Alright’ is cause for mini celebration I’d say… such is the misery of this, any improvement is good news. Hope it continues 🤞

ShiftySquirrel · 15/12/2024 22:29

I've had it too, probably three weeks so far. Every time I think it's nearly gone it comes back as sore throat, coughing or awful neck ache.

I took a week off at its worst. Lots of snot and coughing, totally blocked sinuses, no taste, lethargy, bit achy, but not terrible.

I had no temperature, did one (negative) COVID test and had a flu jab in September, so it's either a nasty virus or COVID by disguise.

I'm also a TA, it's a breeding ground of germs in school- the teachers and TAs and children are all unwell and we break up late this year.

Thegrassroots26 · 15/12/2024 22:41

Your symptoms all sound so similar. I had the awful neck ache!! Thankfully that passed after 3 or 4 days.
i feel it is Covid. I have a rash on the bottom of my foot that I got the previous two times I have Covid.
Weird smell and taste / nausea and appetite problems too just make me think it has to be. Also the fact you feel not so bad at first and then it gets worse not better as time goes on.

CissOff · 15/12/2024 22:42

I’ve been feeling rough since Thursday - thought it was a hangover from my works night out but haven’t been able to get out of bed since. I have zero energy, banging headache, aches, temp and now a cough. Thankfully no congestion (yet!).

I’m also feeling really nauseous and having an upset stomach/strange BMs. I’m also so windy 🥴🥴 has anybody else had this too?

Yes… In fact being really windy was kind of how mine started. I just felt off for a couple of weeks before it probably kicked in and my stomach was not right.
Things then kicked up a gear when I was suddenly aware of my neck gland and it was really sore and enlarged…. Fast forward four weeks and here I am still feeling crap. So yes, it definitely has a gastro element. The nausea has been unreal, but I’m not sure whether that is part of the virus or the sinus infection that ensued… I hope that you don’t suffer as badly as some of us are and it passes quickly.

Cece92 · 15/12/2024 22:57

I'm glad I found this thread. I've currently got this it's been a week. My partner woke up last Saturday with it and then me Sunday. No idea where he got it he's a long haul truck driver so he doesn't really interact with anyone. I haven't had a blocked nose but had a fever, sore throat, no taste and now I've this god awful chesty cough. My daughters got ir but she's really badly bunged up she's never had a cold like it. She is p7 at school and her wee buddy in p1 had been off with it so I think she's caught it from him. It's like no matter how much she blows her nose it's not doing anything. She's very pale too. I have asthma so I'm going to ring the doctors tomorrow for some steroids to help as my lungs have taken a beaten with Covid over the years. C

Cece92 · 15/12/2024 23:00

Also very exhausted. No energy at all. And I've got a busy working week ahead like most of us. X

That’s good (!) to know re the windy-ness. I am not a naturally windy person but have hardly been able to stop 🙈🙈

Praying it goes over the next couple of weeks as I start a new job in January 😕

Glitterboobz · 17/12/2024 07:53

I'm about 5 weeks in. Took last week off work and feel much better but now I have a horrible throat clearing thing, a feeling like liquid is stuck in my throat. I hope I don't go back to the coughing up phlegm constantly.
Also a horrible stabbing headache in the side of my head and Lightheaded - which were the first symptoms of this virus.
I went to Holland and Barrett and got an immune boosting syrup type thing. Not sure like a previous poster said, if it's the placebo effect but I definitely feel better.
But nowhere near back to my usual self.

Thegrassroots26 · 17/12/2024 12:26

Tried to go for a walk to the shop. Made it to the top of the road before turning around and getting in the car. Can’t believe how weak, wobbly and useless this virus has made me. Keep bursting into tears today randomly. Feel so fragile and like I’ve got a hideous hangover. I’m in week 5!! Week 5…. What on earth is going on?
trying to scramble some semblance of normality together so I might stand a chance of giving my kids a Xmas, but this is miserable and desperate and I just want to feel better now.

In the morning I feel like I have goo from my sinuses running down my throat. It continues for a while then stops. I'm on week 3 now and can still not really talk for long.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 17/12/2024 18:13

I was 2 weeks and a couple of days in and still feeling congested and snotty now I’ve got another full blown cold! Had my flu jab too! Really a bit cheesed off now.

I’ve started a new job and spend a lot of time in A&E and wards which are full of germy people at this time of year, I suspect that is the problem!

LivelyMintViper · 17/12/2024 18:24

Had very similar. Thought it was all over then back it came. Went on to vomiting. Pulse went to 110, violent shaking and low blood oxygen. Called 111 and wound up in hospital on a drip! Hope you are luckier! Son is a doctor and says it's doing the rounds ...

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 17/12/2024 22:34

Day 27. Slowly starting to feel less awful maybe even getting better!
Still an emotional wreck though and almost crying at re runs of call the midwife.

Also nearly cried as my son s getting married soon and some doom monger said that "a son's a son till he takes a wife" thing and we have always been close as he was born when I was a teenager.

God I wish I was my normal practical self !!

socks1107 · 18/12/2024 07:56

I'm now a week in and cannot shake the chest cough and blocked sinuses. Whatever this cold is it's nasty

Day 27 you poor thing! I hope you feel better soon. As for that comment, nonsense! He will always be your son, and I hope you all have a fantastic time at the wedding
