Labour should tackle rogue parking firms. That should generate some positive headlines.

As I said, 5 years is a long time. But trying to get some quick win headlines that should "please the people" can't hurt.

It's about getting people to change their minds. The way is to get them to think about their own reasons, to examine why they maybe aren't totally certain about their opinion and to get them to think about other views. Not to challenge them - as challenging leads to defensiveness.

Change comes from within

Incidentally, have you popped in on the private school VAT thread(s) of late.

conservative with a small c! That is, not easily persuaded of benefits that seem abstract to their own immediate circumstances

I've been reading a really interesting book called "How minds change"

All about how you talk to people, engage them, and some of the techniques people can use.

Some examples include how people leave cults, how people change their views on LGBT rights, even their belief in God.

Well worth reading.

I did a module on changing perceptions in the workplace as part of my degree.

Was really interesting.

We don't need to ask Farage anything.

What we do need to do is tell Farage supporters that Brexit is a success and let him squirm. After all, he's still here isn't he ?

It's a facile debating technique, but it can be deployed to the great unthinking.

"What do you want ?"
"Less immigration !"
"Well we had Brexit. And that fixed immigration didn't it ?"
"But small boats !"
"But Brexit fixed immigration didn't it ?"

and slowly loop round.

The key here is to be a little discerning with your resources. 1 in 3 people don't vote and never will.

Oh but we had the wrong type of Brexit.

MaybeNotBob · 09/12/2024 20:01

No point in asking Fartage about Brexshit, he'll do what he did on QT and just keep spewing nonsense about "freedom", and a "collapsing EU", and other equally stupid shit. His supporters will lap it up.

Not platforming him is the best way.

BIossomtoes · 09/12/2024 21:07

According to The Telegraph Mince pie prices jump by 40pc in Christmas shopping blow. I guess it’s the government’s fault. 🙄

Alexandra2001 · 09/12/2024 21:17

That @cakeorwine is an excellent idea but will they? i doubt it.

Even the Mail couldn't object to getting rid of these cowboys and whilst they are at it, deal with rail companies who are also acting very harshly against people who have made genuine ticketing mistakes.

Low hanging fruit, positive headlines that no one could object to.

Sounds like even Trump has worked out Fartage as well...

He's a useful idiot to Trump who, in turn, is a useful idiot to Putin.

Another 'man of the people' here, billionaire property tycoon and Holly Valance's husband, Nick Candy, has become Reform's treasurer.

Good to see that billionaires have the man on the street interest's at heart.

I think the fall of Syria is an indication that now Putin has succeeded in putting his man in the Whitehouse, all other projects are expendable.

I doubt Trump and Farage were a package deal.

We live in interesting times.

Bit of a random post but this is interesting from the IFS. No surprise to me that my local area spends less than the national average.

interesting thank you - I am a school SEN governor.

County council ( conservative led) is locally heavily publishing the extra grants they are giving to pensioners to replace lost the heating allowance, despite being in wealthy south east but has higher than average SEN and significantly lower than average spend.

Focusing on their key voting audience! 😡

cardibach · 10/12/2024 15:44

That’s quite funny on one level @SerendipityJane
Very worrying on another.

Notonthestairs · 10/12/2024 16:23

"NYYRC executive secretary Vish Burra told The Independent: “The NYYRC Gala is a party for winners, not globalist losers. MAGA Republicans are not interested in working with parties in the death throes of their moral integrity and electoral viability.”

"Globalist losers" - hhhhhmmm, wonder what they meant by that exactly.

The same article suggests the Conservatives are cosying up with Stephen 'true Americans' Miller - appreciate we will have to - or chose to - break bread with a lot of the rabid MAGA goons over the next few years but Miller seems particularly unpleasant. certainly have no interest in seeing his kind of rhetoric employed in the UK any more than it already has been.

I think pensioners manage to be much more vocal than SN parents or are perhaps better able to coalesce around particular issues and are backed by the media (do more pensioners buy/subscribe to newspapers I wonder?).
Speaking from my own experience parenting SN children/young adults is pretty lonely and it is often difficult to make the right sort of contacts to compare and complain together.
But then I suppose, according to Badenoch, I should be grateful for my child's financial advantages. Yes, I am rolling my eyes.

Also - if you can be bothered - old age means you have learned a lot. Certainly enough to deal with the Byzantine ways of the world.
