We have friends coming over for dinner tonight, and I'm cooking a Spanish/Basque meal. 7 of us plus, later, DS1 and his friend who is also staying over, and DS2 at some point. We usually end up playing silly games at some point, and not going to bed till around 4 or 5am!

I have deactivated twitter but I liked this response on bluesky

I’m shocked that Sadiq Khan has been rewarded for failure with a knighthood following London mayoral election victories against Zac (now Lord) Goldsmith and Shaun (now Lord) Bailey.

Complaints for 'rewarding failure'.

From a party that honoured the 'brave and bold' Grayling, Jenkyns, Williamson and Coffey.

Overall the Conservatives gave 77 knight/dame hoods to their own MPs over 14 years. 27 to Labour.

A ten fold increase under the Conservatives.

I had my granddaughters here earlier, was mine & dh’s birthdays either side of Christmas I’m shattered with all the festivities, finishing off the rest of the cheeses washed down with tonic water & no gin tonight can’t stomach the thought of anymore alcohol.

Happy New Year to everyone, a special celebration here as my darling little white cat who had been missing since July was found last night and we have been reunited 😻

DuncinToffee · 31/12/2024 16:14

I have finished my baking, just had a baby Guinness and am now listening to the Dutch top 2000 (too much Coldplay and Dire Straits for my liking). DH is making a curry for tonight.

All the best wishes for 2025 and thanks for being such a lovely bunch

Dire Straits

Considering how massive they were in the 80s (that sodding album cover was everywhere) their relative low profile these days seems a bit odd. Although, as Graham Coxon of Blur commented when ruminating on this fact commented:

"They were shit."

Evenstar · 31/12/2024 16:40

I think an extra cat tax might be needed, this is her in her basket holding my hand. She is thin and grubby and very hungry, but so glad to be home.

Last day of 2024, hope everyone is well

I am busy making the Dutch traditional treat, oliebollen

I like bitterballen (is that the correct spelling)?

They seemed to be liked by the same kind of people who nowadays like Coldplay.

Yes it is.

I have tried making them (or the bigger version 'kroketten') but it's too much of a faff

I was feeling a bit grumpy today but this is just wonderful! (I think I have something in my eye...)

Happy New Year all you lovely people - left, right and centre!

As someone who likes both bands, I can confirm. I saw Dire Straits live in the 80s. Amazing musicians who could do everything they did on their albums live.

I saw them twice at Wembley (Arena) in 85. However I did notice that even then they were pulling in the sort of people who thought that I should hear this "great new band called Fleetwood Mac" ... i.e. people who weren't really into music 😀

2025 - 40 years since Live Aid. Crikey !

My taste in music is best described as unpredictable, I don't adhere to any genre. I lean towards the melancholy and the melodic.

Happy New Year everyone.🥂🥳🎉 These threads have kept me going and I appreciate everyone who has posted here. We have been out for a lovely lunch and are now going to have a relaxed night in.

@pointythings please could you report back on Nosferatu?

I think the word "eclectic" is more pretentious better describes mine.

Meanwhile here's a picture of a cat that popped up in a feed. Algorithms seem to know me too well ...
