What are the possible outcomes for Reform now Musk has told MAGA to fuck off and die ? It's too much to hope for any self awareness amongst the average reform voter to realise that is exactly what he will do to them when the time comes. However does it make things less easy for Farage ?

Unlike Mr. Musk who had plenty. It would be unfair to claim he actually used "the R word", but he was happy to engage with someone who did without demurring.

Seems thus far Trump is backing him. Which means dumping on the MAGA maniacs like Laura Loomer. But that's easy as Musk has just removed her blue tick, along with a few other critical republicans.

The thing is, Musk isn't wrong to a certain extent. US and UK culture are very dismissive of engineering and science in education. The problem is a lot of that is due to platforms like Twitter and the like which allow mediocrity to be monetised while slogging your guts out for a STEM degree just ends in penury.

It's interesting that Trump - while he may have told some whoppers about the effects - has been quite candid about his plans. He will slash government spending. He will expel illegal immigrants. If people voted for him not believing or understanding that, and are now shitting their pants, then it's on them in a way.

This contrasts with Brexit where the whole Leave campaign was a lie.

I've been saying he's more one nation Tory than any Tory for a while now.

I'm not sure how much that is his actual core beliefs and how much that is playing the game as he can then get Labour and "normal" Tory votes and probably borrow some LDem as that is a bigger pit than the RW.

I think he's plonked himself firmly centre and swinging both ways for a reason - but I'm not particularly LW so for me I like it.

Happy New Year's Even from the Pointy clan! DD1's ex is here and has brought a stack of board games, DS' friend from uni is coming over later bringing homemade foccaccia, we are about to go out and get snacks and drinks and are looking forward to a family night in.

Tomorrow we are going out for dinner and then seeing Nosferatu in the cinema by way of a birthday do for both DCs (who have birthdays in January and early February).

Early dinner out for us then home for the Hootenanny. Whisky/gin may be consumed as well as a weird Portuguese liqueur I found in the cupboard.

Adult DC went home to their respective cities yesterday. After a week playing host to them and partners, we’ve earned all the whisky/gin. Much as I love them.
