Not all crime has decreased.
Up to September 2024 theft against the person (Inc. Pickpocketing) 22% increase.
Other crime (non specific) up 3.6%.
Robbery (Inc. Mugging) up 3.7%.
Shoplifting up 19%.
Does rather beg the question as to where the corresponding decreases are, if overall crime is down.
Also, what exactly are we measuring with "crime". Number of incidents ? Value involved ? Is a million people being mugged and relieved of £10 equivalent to a single £10,000,000 case of fraud ?
Statistics - especially those seasoned for public consumption - are probably not a good starting point for serious debate.
