I'm bored of my Spotify playlist and need something new to listen to who isn't a mainstream artist. I turn to Mumsnet wisdom to recommend me music from any genre.

At the minute I'm loving a guy called Pipe Puerto, especially Whisky En Tinta Azul.

Two other bands I listen to a lot are Bloodywood and North Atlas.

There's also a guy called Shaun Munday who's voice is like honey, love him.

LP. Not “unknown” but not as well known as I think she should be.

Start with a song called Lost on You.

Amyl and The Sniffers
The Yeah, yeah, yeahs

BadgersGalore · 03/12/2024 09:36

I can't believe Vulfmon and Evangeline aren't better known

Comefromaway · 03/12/2024 09:39

You've got bands like Lottery Winners who are becoming mainstream. Three years ago they were playing tiny grass roots venues now they are supporting the likes of Rock Astley & Robbie Williams

The K's
The Kairos
Shader

I like quite soulful music, these are 3 of my recommendations.

Durand Jones and the Indications

If you like folk music then I'd recommend The Unthanks. They did the magpie song from The Detectorists. But this is my favourite:

Also (another a Detectorists link) Johnny Flynn with Laura Marling:
Johnny does the Detectorists theme tune. Laura is just all round marvellous.

Ren

Completely agree, have fell down a Rabbit hole with Ren recently. A outstanding Artist. Read or saw someone say that he was a musical version of a Tarantino film which felt quite fitting

Muireann Bradley . A proper blues artist and she's only 18 - so talented

If you don't mind a dark & moody vibe, check out my playlist of some of my absolute favourites. Let me know what you think.

I saw both Muireann Bradley and Johnny Flynn (also mentioned above) at the Green Man festival this year. Both stunningly excellent.

I'd recommend checking out the very excellent Ezra Collective, Jesse Welles and Mon Rovîa

Crikeyalmighty · 03/12/2024 10:31

Ok - I will recommend Rosalie Cunningham - she's an acquired taste but writes all her own stuff and was a protege of George Martin ( Beatles producer) - and I confess to a 'vested interest'

Angus and Julia Stone are not well known outside Australia. Where are you? https://holler.country/feature/angus-and-julia-stone-return-with-a-protest-of-love/

I listen to these. I’ve got a lot of Australian bands on rotation.
