Unknown music artists that everyone must listen to

I'm bored of my Spotify playlist and need something new to listen to who isn't a mainstream artist. I turn to Mumsnet wisdom to recommend me music from any genre.

@Marsaala yes, she's not exactly 'unknown' as quite big in our scene of Prog/psychedelic. - but not exactly a household name - that's why I thought I would mention her- on tour in Europe at moment - has a great band too - and is a terrific guitar player as well - I thought it best to admit I'm involved - so yep I'm biased -

When I want something completely different, I like a bit of Penguin Cafe Orchestra or Trio Bulgarka for a bit of Bulgarian folk.

Judi Tzuke is incredible. Have seen her twice recently at her small intimate shows in SW London. I have most of her music.

Not unknown, but alot of people haven't heard of Damien Rice. He's been my favourite singer for 20+ years. Most famous for his first album 0, and the song The Blowers Daughter, but love his other albums too

Sampha is amazing, he has worked with some big name artists but very under rated. He is a British singer

Not exactly unknown (she was nominated for the Mercury Prize a few years ago) but we love Gwenno - her album Tresor is wonderful.
