Which brand of tinned tomatoes do you use?

I always used to buy Napolina for making pizza and pasta sauces and beef ragus and was always very happy with them. There seem to be more brands about now. Today I've bought a few tins of Mutti peeled Plum and chopped tomatoes with garlic. I don't remember using them before. I'll be making the Plum tomatoes into an uncooked pizza sauce, hopefully with minimal extra ingredients.

I'm a convert to Mutti chopped tomatoes after a long thread on here. They really are superior to other brands. Their pizza sauce is brilliant as well.

HumanRadio · 02/12/2024 13:40

I like Mutti. I find them quite rich and tasty

Dariamar · 02/12/2024 13:41

Mutti here....they really are better.

Mutti - best percentage of actual tomatoes rather than water/salt etc

ToddlerMumma · 02/12/2024 13:41

I like the mutti ones, not sure if they are new

Mipil · 02/12/2024 13:41

Mutti too!

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/12/2024 13:43

Mutti. Never going back.

3luckystars · 02/12/2024 13:44

I use Mutti too, I love them.

WilfredsPies · 02/12/2024 13:45

I always used to get Napolina, but now I find myself getting whatever is the cheapest. I can’t really taste the difference after it has been in the oven so I don’t see the point in paying more than I need to.

letshavetea · 02/12/2024 13:45

Definitely Mutti. Buy them when they’re on offer in Waitrose. Their tomato puree is superior too.

littleducks · 02/12/2024 13:46

Lidl "polpa" and cherry tomatoes are good
I really like mutti but find them to expensive for everyday use

Notonthestairs · 02/12/2024 13:46

Mutti. I load up when they have offers.

OnlyFrench · 02/12/2024 13:47

Mutti, first bought because I wanted to plant a pelargonium in the tin 😂 but great tomatoes

Spoink · 02/12/2024 13:47

Mutti, to the dismay of my bank balance. And yes, the pizza sauce is great too!

smashedhen · 02/12/2024 13:48

Lidl have stopped selling their polpa tomatoes. Gutted- will have to pay the extra for mutti now

MrsAvocet · 02/12/2024 13:49

Mutti when they're on offer, Napolina when not!

Spoink · 02/12/2024 13:49

Coincidentally, I just read a lengthy article on tomato purees and the use of Chinese tomatoes from forced labour camps, which was actually quite interesting if you want a tomato deep-dive...

‘Italian’ purees likely to contain Chinese forced-labour tomatoes

Some products described as “Italian” appear to contain Chinese tomatoes, BBC investigation suggests.

Lidl's finest. Best I've come across, and a reasonable price.

Blarn · 02/12/2024 13:52

Mutti but also Cirio which are a bit cheaper and nearly as good. I always have a couple of cheaper tins stored in the cupboard and will use these for chilli con carne where I actually prefer the the larger chunks in less thick sauce. Anything needing lovely rich sauce though Mutti or Cirio.

TheTecknician · 02/12/2024 13:53

Goodness. It seems Mutti is the winner by some margin. They are currently on offer in Waitrose.

I once tried Del Monte chopped tomatoes but only once. They were flavourless and acidic.

A local pizza takeaway has been using Cirio for absolutely years so I expect they're good too, although I've yet to try them.

I usually order Tesco own range but prefer Waitrose own range. Really thick tomato sauce with their plum tomatoes.

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 02/12/2024 13:55

Mutti or Cirio. Mutti when they are on offer!

WinterCrow · 02/12/2024 13:58

Any brand that doesn't use modern slavery is worth looking at.

loveisanopensore · 02/12/2024 14:00

The second cheapest in Lidl.

Scutterbug · 02/12/2024 14:02

The cheapest ones! Mutti etc are out of our budget. I add herbs and garlic etc myself.
